The title says it all- he surprisingly became a free agent today. I know what many of you will think/say to this news BUT the guy went to the Pro Bowl 3 of the last 4 years and he's consistently been a top-7 guard in the league since leaving Miami.

Since he's probably going to sign with someone on the cheap for a last-ditch effort at a super bowl ring, I think it would be an outstanding pickup. On the other hand though, Gase probably wouldn't want him with the whole culture mix taking place....that's a really tough call.

One thing of note- he hasn't said that he's officially un-retiring yet....although he hasn't officially retired either. He just dropped a Twitter post a few months back saying he was done but never actually followed through (hence, why the Bills finally cut him). There was some bad blood there because they wanted to re-structure his final year for less money....despite him being the #6 guard overall last season. And I think I'm on 'Cog's side on this one...that's kind of a jerk move by the organization.

Let’s tirn the page on this one guys. He’s 34 spoken public ally about his desire to retire a few times and we don’t need any distractions. Could he fit in sure but not worth the risk. Plus he went to Buffalo!!

I would rather sign an undrafted free agent than deal with that scumbag again. Hopefully, he's out of the league for good.

I think there's a bear market on OG's who call their teammate a "half-ni**** piece of ****". I guess it's easy to look past it if he pushes other people well.

Heard him on WQAM (joe rose) a couple weeks ago said he loved it hear and didn't seem to hold any animosity toward this team and administration. A few players on Bills don't want him to leave so don't think he's the eye sore that some project him to be in the locker room ( and IMO Gase holds to much infuses on locker room-play, possibly over field of play ). But do need to consider this retirement fiasco and the situation it put the Bills in (though don't know the whole story, none of us do)

After the surprising upgrade ( Sitton, Kilgore? ) which made my day think Gase feels the OL is fine and set. Maybe right IF there is no injury which surprisingly rarely ever happens and being prepared for that is something that makes the good Head Coaches good or repeat of the inept past that we've experienced the last 2 decades...

IMO you want to help RT especially with his unknown real health level in question, Then, provide him with the best protection you can (now more than ever), so at the right price, think wise to consider the last 3 years a 3 time pro bowler an upgrade over Davis.
Just helping RT stay alive is enough, added help for Drake, Gore and the rookie, and more time for WR's is a not to difficult to understand. ....
At least a consideration...If not Incog. another quality before the season starts..

    This^^^

Could be worth a shot on a one year only deal but probably doesn't have the longevity that Gase is looking for.

Would I bring him in to bolster the OL on a 12 monther? Hell yeah!

He'll be 35 so one year is the plan. Right price ? pro-bowler, RT better protection its surprising that the FO Gase or whoever might not get this..... if passed....
Unless they see another down the road still in his 20's....

    Be a nice OL
    Tunsil.....Sitton...Kilgore...Incog....James......

(Davis, Young, rookie backups) does make a lot of sense....just doubt Gase has this page in his insight section....

The thing is, Philbin and company told Cogs to "toughen Martin up". Despite what was said in the Wells report, they were clearly friends that gave each other crap. The guy has a jerk personality but he was also a team leader because he was 100% loyal and a really good lineman to boot.

And about the "dirty player" stuff...he plays with a chip on his shoulder, which is exactly how linemen should play. We really never should have let him go.

Jonathan Martin and Incognito were not friends. Martin tried to fit in but never actually liked the culture. He was arrested this year for posting a vague, threatening message about school shooters being pushed to violence by bullies. He tagged his own former high school as well as Incognito and Mike Pouncey, suggesting that their bullying drove him to the point of wanting to kill someone. Please end this narrative right now.

I can't get down with having a player who would call his teammate a "half-ni**** piece of ****", especially in a league that won't sign Colin Kaepernick because he's a 'distraction'. Incognito represents the worst in humanity. If Miami signs him, I'm out. The NFL has shown me on numerous occasions that they will throw me and people who look like me under the bus to appease their more extreme and often racist fans. I've drawn a line and will not support a team that employs any form of bigot or abuser (domestic or otherwise).

But I think you missed the part where Martin called him a "white trash piece of garbage" or one of hundreds of other colorful texts the two shared back and forth on a daily basis. I actually read through all of them and the entire report, so I'm not guessing here....they were friends that talked a ton of trash to each other. The part you're missing is that Martin is emotionally unstable so he sunk to Cog's trash-talk level to fit in, even though it sometimes made him miserable. It was NOT INCOGNITO that finally made him quit...that's just who he blamed after the fact to the media even though he continued to text the guy and say he was a good friend.

I feel for you on the racism part but the way I see it, I have to worry abut myself and my family. There's not enough time left in the day to worry about how other people feel, the dumb crap they do or how they judge me...that's not even on my radar. All I can do is what I think is right for my family and hope that the rest of the world is doing the same.

Kind of clearer now to more of us that the man has serious problems..in the losing it dept.
Incognito sought treatment for mental health issues in Arizona in 2014 after he smashed his own car with a baseball bat.

Sad to see that he really is sick and in need of serious professional help which I hope he's open to.

I wonder if banging your head against the wall day in and day out for a dozen years has something to do with this problem...

Wish you well Richie and a full blown recovery.... so sad.....

Richie Incognito is an NFL free agent after being released by the Bills this week, but he’s reportedly been held by police after an incident in Florida on Wednesday. TMZ reports that law enforcement sources confirmed Incognito has been placed in an involuntary hold for a mental evaluation after police were called to a gym to intervene during an altercation between Incognito and another man.

The alleged victim told TMZ Incognito threw a tennis ball for no reason and followed up by throwing a dumbbell at him as well. Incognito was allegedly “rambling about the government and screaming at the man to ‘get off my f*cking playground'” while this was going on.

Wow, that is sad. The guy has always had a short fuse and with the punishment he dishes out at such a high level, you almost have to think brain injury. I bet he found out he was cut and went ballistic, which fits his stereotype of going off the rails when things don't go his way.

As much as he's a piece of trash degenerate, I feel bad for the guy. We went down the mental illness path with one of my kids and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy....the treatment is slow and ineffective while everyone around the person suffers.

This kind of stuff is nothing new really, or surprising. The guy has had loose screws since college. Its a big part of why he's changed teams in the NFL four times, and why I wanted the Fins to cut him before the whole bullying incident.

Ive been calling him an a-hole for years and believe me the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. His psycho father was a member on the forums once when Jonathan Martin accused incognito of bullying.. and he presented himself like a clown too..

So you glossed over the fact that Jonathan Martin stopped just short of threatening to kill Incognito, just because you really like how strong he is? He's a racist **** who needs to fade into obscurity. His greatest contribution to this team was that time we found out his dad posted here.

Big surprise, his old man was off too.

I don't condone what Incognito said, but it to this day it says something to me that after the whole bullying incident happened it seemed that pretty much the entire team, both black players and white players, seemed to support Incognito. If I remember correctly the whole locker room was laughing about those texts too.

Not trying to paint Incognito out to be some kind of great person, but it seems to me he was actually well liked in the locker room by the Dolphins including the black players. Clearly Richie's brash personality/mental health issues combined with Martin's mental health issues was a bad combination though

The fact guys like Pouncey supported him despite this, tells me that for whatever reason, stuff like that was deemed acceptable in that locker room.

The Dolphins have long had a culture problem, so this doesn’t shock me.

I also will walk that line people have created and say...he was obviously joking. I don’t know if that makes it okay, I’m not in that locker room.

But I’ll bet you 10x out of 10, something like “that white mf” is said in locker rooms much more prevelant than ******. Either both of those comments are acceptable or neither are.

All this being said? Taking Richie back would be a PR nightmare.

I read a 600+ page report.....you read a Tweet....and I glossed over something? Martin has a law degree and he knew exactly what he was doing there, once again taking the cowardly way out of a situation by blaming others for his own inability to cope.

Martin does not have a law degree. In fact he only received his four year degree after he retired from the NFL and went back to Stanford to finish college. I believe his mother has a law degree but while Martin was accepted to Harvard law school prior to being drafted by the Dolphins, he never attended Harvard or any other law school.

While he obviously has book intelligence, he has had many other psychological issues he has had to deal with going all the way back to his high school years. Perhaps he will hopefully resolve his issues
over the coming years but as of right now, he just appears to be a lost soul trying to cope on a daily basis.

The only thing more oppressed than a Knicks fan is a white guy. "that white mf" and "half-ni**** piece of ****" are totally on the same level. Besides, you just made that up. Incognito actually called someone that. Please step back and take note of what you're defending and the comparison you're making.

I genuinely like you, but you're not going to sit there and tell me that those two phrases are anything like each other and that "half-ni**** piece of ****" is anything you say to someone who can't handle it. The players saw it as trying to toughen Martin up and Martin saw it as torment. NFL players are meat head jocks, they're not the arbiters of what is appropriate to do or say. It's just like hazing in a fraternity. Sure, the brothers of the org are okay with it, but that's sort of the point. The reason it's illegal is because we don't allow the perpetrators of bad actions to decide if the actions are bad.

I didn't read a tweet. I cited a police investigation into threats made by a former NFL player against two NFL players. Martin tried to fit in at the behest of the coaches and players but he didn't enjoy his time there. Locker rooms are very fraternal and they defend each other, often when they're wrong. The players don't get to sanction that.

I don't care if the players sided with Incognito. Why do you care? What justifies calling someone a "half-ni**** piece of ****". I assure you if you called me that and said you were joking, we'd have a big problem.

Remember that time Incognito drunkenly sexually assaulted a volunteer at a charity golf tournament?

    https://www.local10.com/news/aventura-police-dolphins-richie-incognito-harassed-golf-volunteer

This man is a piece of **** human being. She wasn't in the locker room. Richard Incognito is a basket case who used the locker room as an excuse to be a racist ****. He has now mentally abused a teammate, sexually assaulted a volunteer, and physically assaulted a gym-goer.

    https://deadspin.com/report-richie-incognito-placed-on-involuntary-psychiat-1826266134

What will it take for you all to realize that he's a piece of ****, and so are the teammates who defended him. Mike Pouncey was his partner in crime and he was an avid supporter of then-convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez. These are NOT good people. Richard Incognito and James Pouncey were destructive *******s with no accountability or concern for people around them.

Now that he's been placed under involuntary mental evaluation, maybe consider that you guys have been misguided in your defense of a violent racist headcase.

lol...Lot's of hyperbole AND understatement in the same post. I'm impressed.

Ingognito isn't the worst in humanity nor does he represent that. I mean, are you seriously going to say that 'Cogs and someone like Hitler are one in the same? You call 'Cogs "racist" and then say he and Pouncey (who is black) were partners in crime. That doesn't sound like a racist to me. I guess slinging poop and hoping something sticks is the preferred way to slander someone nowadays?

And to interpret what Martin did as "vague" is why kids get shot in schools.

The only narrative being pushed is that Martin was a poor little bullied kid and 'Cogs is a racist.

As for what he did to that woman at the charity event, THAT is a reason to criticize him. And I would call him a POS for that. What transpired between him and Martin was nothing. Martin is mentally unstable.

Why do words hurt so many people today? And it really takes a weak mind to want to fight someone over some words...especially words said in jest.

  40. CaribPhin

You just called him bullying a mentally unstable person "nothing". I already explained why the locker room would rally behind a guy even if he's wrong. Again, Pouncey's loyalty allows him to defend a CONVICTED MURDERER. Do you not see how his judgement isn't the best and how toxic locker room culture can be.

Besides, Dylann Roof was friends with a black teen and still shot up a black church. Race and racism isn't this black and white thing. Slave master's routinely raped slaves even though they saw them as subhuman. There's a lot of nuance that you lack on this topic. I just wish you'd have the grace to accept that someone who has to live while black has a better grasp on how racism operates.
