Not sure what Harris has to do with anything when teams need at least 2 pass rushers. Who's the other DE of the future? There's not another one on a rookie contract anywhere on the roster. It's a massive need. Pass rushers perform the 2nd most important job in football, hence it's not a position I'm particularly fond about skimping on.

Some guys, you watch, you like, then you take a break and you see a bunch more prospects at the same position, and you watch again, and you're like...man, did I really like this guy so much?

Some guys, you watch, you like, then you take a break and you see a bunch more prospects at the same position, and you watch again, and you're like...he looks even more dominant.

Aaron Donald was like that. I fell in love...I think it was early May 2013. Every time I watched him, he looked even better. He looked even more dominant. It wasn't a process of more exposure showing his flaws, or showing that he doesn't quite stand out as much over other players. Marcus Davenport is a lot like this. Every time you come back to it, you're thinking, was he THIS explosive before? Was he THIS brutal? Was he this dominant?

The opposite happens more than I like to admit. Usually it's a guy I start talking up on that first viewing and then when subsequent revisits (after watching other guys) disappoint...his name slips out of my lexicon.

Hahaha that's so true! Lost track how many times I've been guilty of bamboozling myself!

Ditto on that last pair of statements.

Seems like it, a month or two ago he was a projected top 10 pick now most are projecting him to go in the mid teens. Kind of a bummer for us as we don’t need a DE and another good player would’ve fell to us.

I would still draft Davenport. Rule of thumb is that it basically takes a year for these pass rushers to acclimate to the NFL. That in mind, what do we look like next year and thereafter? No Andre Branch. Wake will be 38 and in the very least shouldn't be starting on base downs. Quinn is getting paid a bunch AND plays the same position as Harris. We definitely need a pass rusher off the left side opposite Harris.

If Quinn and Harris both pan out though, you would have a top #11 pick coming off the bench. You make a good point and I’m not completely opposed as you can never have enough rushers, but we have too many other holes. LB, DT, or QB should be our only options at #11 IMO unless someone like Fitz falls to us.

Like I said though, Quinn and Harris are both right-side rushers. On the left side, however, there's no fixture moving forward. If you have an opportunity to lock up an elite player there, especially when it's the game's 2nd most important position, it'd be smart to consider it.

Very good DTs and LBs can be picked up on Day 2 of virtually any draft. If you need a pass rusher, however, it often requires a 1st round investment, sometimes a high 1st, which means that not every year will a needy team find themselves in position to draft a great DE when they need one. Again, it usually takes these pass rushers a year to acclimate to the NFL, so it doesn't do you any good to wait until the last second to draft one. Thus, if you know it's going to be a future need, then there's nothing unwise about proactively drafting one in advance.

Not to mention, if Harris pans out, do you think we'll continue to pay Quinn 10M+ to play the same RDE spot? -doubtful.... which means Harris would be the only DE moving forward. If Harris doesn't pan out but Quinn does, then Quinn will be the only DE moving forward (if we can re-sign him). So no matter how you slice it, LDE is going to be a need.... which could be as early as this season if Wake (37 in January) starts declining. Only 1x has a speed rusher totaled more than 3 sacks in a season beyond the age of 37 (Clay Matthews, 1996).

UTSA, that's my school! Unfortunately, I don't have anything to add on Marcus as I haven't lived in San Antonio for about 15 years now. I would personally like having a Roadrunner on the team. Birds Up!

Plays 90 plus percent in a 2 point stance.

Draft him that way as a 34 olb

Saints have been drafting pretty well recently, no?

Excited to see what Davenport does, as long as it isn't against the Dolphins.

He's got a legit shot at DROY, in my opinion.

    Look at the setup.

They've got a high-powered offense run by Drew Brees, surrounded by guys like Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Mark Ingram, Cameron Meredith, etc. This will put scoreboard pressure on opponents and induce a lot of predictable passing downs.

They've had a good stretch of drafting and signing on D particularly in the secondary, with guys like Von Bell, Marcus Williams, Kurt Coleman, Marshon Lattimore, Patrick Robinson, Ken Crawley, etc. A lot of good coverage men should mean hesitation from quarterbacks, and extra time for the pass rushers to get there.

And it's not as if offenses can over-play the rookie Davenport. They wouldn't anyway, because he's a rookie. But between Cameron Jordan, Alex Okafor, and Trey Hendrickson, there's enough to occupy their attention.

But does that mean Davenport himself will sit the bench? Not a chance. The Saints gave up TWO 1st round picks to get him. They're going to want to play him, AND they're going to want to put him in position to produce.

It's really a perfect setup. Especially since he was never even close to as "raw" as people tried to let on. He has a great long-arm move, and plenty of counters.
