I know that a number of have been interested in this game, but up until now the details have been almost zero. However, while there aren't many specifics, we're getting a little here and there from the developers now.

CDPR President recently had a few things to say about the game at a company conference:

    https://www.dualshockers.com/cyberpunk-2077-detils/

    Bullet points include:

-Cross generational potential, should the PS5 or future XBOX come out around time of release
    -Character Creation system
    -Multiple character classes
-Intense, story driven, single player RPG
-No microtransactions, no hidden payments of any kind
-Different from The Witcher, in that there is no predefined character, a futuristic world, and 3D movement

-Also, they aren't focusing on the Switch. PS4 and PC were specifics mentioned.

Other than sports titles, its probably the only game I'm deeply interested in that's going to be released before 2020. TES6 and DA4 are both at some level of production, and I'm more interested in both, but who knows when they'll see the light of day. On the other hand, we're likely to get a lot about this one this year, starting with E3 in May.

CDPR did a magnificant job with TW3 in all ways. I'm very curious and hopeful about this one. However, its all still pretty mysterious. Until we see more of what its actually about and what the gameplay is like, I'm in an optimistic wait and see mode.

I loved the PnP world...so if they can in any way bring it to life I will be thrilled. Should be a great opportunity to tell a story and get you hooked..I’m definitely optimistic for this one since CDPR haven’t let me down yet.

Some real news about the world of the game! The broad landscape and ideas, the people, and the character classes. It seems like you might be able to get a different story and starting point based on the class that you choose, which is both cool and great for multiple playthroughs.

I do too. CDPR did such a wonderful job with TW3, that I feel that they will. The gameplay and character models should be top notch. My only question will be how much I'm interested in the game's world, and it looks good so far. A bit dark, but that was expected. Doesn't seem quite as far in that direction as Fallout, which is good.

I've never played The Witcher. It's on my list though.

I only played the third one, but it is quite possibly the greatest video game ever created. No hyperbole. The characters and story are better than most major Hollywood movies, and everything else about the game is deep and well crafted.

AND CDPR goes out of their way to fix all issues ASAP, and to be open and transparent with gamers the whole time. Its fantastic.

It’s pretty different from fallout..no apocalypse so technology advances a LOT. Think more Blade Runner/Minority Report. With social decay being the theme vs actual decay.

Lot of news out there that the game will get a big reveal at E3 in a few weeks, and a major marketing push after that. Could be released early 2019.

So they had a deal for The Witcher 3 and the two expansions this weekend so I bought it. I'm only about 1 hr into it, but if it keeps up this is definitely a must have game for anyone. I bought it, in part, due to your glowing review. Thanks!

Do you get lost in the story of 3 if you haven't played 1 and 2?

You can absolutely enjoy the game without playing the first two. I never have. You'll learn everything that you need to know as you go along. Doing a little bit of backstory reading online may be helpful, but isn't required.

My advice when digging into the game, without spoiling anything is to:

    A) Make sure you get all of the patches and updates first. You almost certainly will, but just in case, this is important. After the initial release, they fixed and updated a bunch of things that make the game work better.

    B) Take your time, and explore areas that you visit before moving on. You'll uncover a lot that would otherwise be hidden and not obvious.

    C) There will be secondary quests along the way that you can choose not to do. I recommend doing as many as possible both because they're almost all well written and add to the depth and enjoyment of the game, and will teach you more about the characters. But also because doing quests at or above your own current level will give you the maximum XP. If you wait, the quest might disappear entirely, or you might be able to do it but won't get the experience benefit.

However, again don't rush to try to complete everything ASAP. Most of the time, you'll be able to choose to go back and do something if you move in another direction instead. There are a handful of major checkpoints that serve as crossroads in the game, and sometimes they'll effect what you can and cannot do, but most of the time this is pretty obvious and you'll notice warnings.

If you dig into all there is to see and do, the game is absolutely huge, and none of it is filler.

Well, I'm glad I wasn't an early adopter! I'm going to wait until I have a PS5, and then see how the actual PS5 version of the game is working for other people after it comes out, and then we'll see. But what a crapshow!

I think that best case, it ends up like No Man's Sky, where its basically a different game after a few years and tons of updates. CDPR was just too aggressive, and couldn't make their vision work on current available hardware.

    https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/16/22234452/cyberpunk-2077-development-2016-pc-console-projekt-red

According to this article at The Verge, the development of the game was maybe even more messed up than FF15. Some highlites:

    • Despite being announced way back in 2012, nearly everything that was done before 2016 was scrapped and they started completely over.
    • The "demo" shown in 2018 was almost entire fake. Basically it was a short film, not a game.
    • Until the development reboot in 2016, the game was in fact third person.
    • Not suprisingly, it was effected by Covid-19, with the PC side and console side not working together.
There have been many people who have said that they should have just released the PC version of the game last year, and appologized that the console versions weren't ready yet. It would have upset people, but not as much as what actually happened.

Once there is a PS5 patch and I can grab a copy for $20 or less, I'll think about trying it. They should have ignored the base PS4 and Xbox One and focused on the PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, PC, and the next gen systems. I get they wanted to sell to the HUGE install bases of the base consoles, but I think they did more damage in the long run.

Its bizarrely ironic that after building up their reputation as one of the very best developers for taking care of their gamers with TW3 and being incredibly responsive while making a fantastic game, that they've basically nuked that all to hell with this one.

They got far, far too ambitious, and once they realized it, instead of pulling back and making the best game that they reasonably should have, they just said screw it, and put out the mess that they did.

And so now, who really knows what the company will truly be going forward.

I think they'll be fine but this was definitely their Icarus moment and they were getting high off their own farts instead of properly managing their game. This is also a great example and case study of an amazing marketing campaign offset by a not so amazing product. Might be the biggest one we've seen in the gaming industry and that's saying something because we're seeing cases like that a lot more lately.
