I generally love those three in anything they're in individually. I'll eventually catch it on a free preview weekend for HBO or Showtime.

I saw Wonder Woman a few days ago and enjoyed it much, much moreso than most other DC movies that I've seen in the past. To me, and looked and felt much more like a Marvel movie in many ways, which is much more appealing for me. Even so, I'm no more inclined to ever see Justice League or the others than I was before.

My older daughter absolutely loves the Lego Ninjago Movie, and we've watched it about once a day since Christmas. Its terrific though, and the humor is right down my alley, so I'm not too upset about seeing it over and over.

Yeah I caught that awhile back and it was a pretty solid and enjoyable movie, the wife loved it. I just had a really hard time buying the main villian. Not that it was Ares, but who they chose to play him.

An old mustachioed British guy from Harry Potter? Really? I am supposed to buy him as the God of War? Like if he totally transformed or something, I'd dig it, but even after he kinda hulked out it was the same guy, just with some fake muscles and glowing. It really killed it for me. Everything else was solid.

Anyone seen Bright on Netflix? It was pretty OK. Cheesy and not up to the production of a fully Hollywood film, but it was fun and I enjoyed it. Didn't regret.

Perfect time of year to watch back-to-back Wind River (mystery/drama/thriller with Jeremy Renner) and then The Mountain Between Us (survival thriller with Idris Elba & Kate Winslet). Pair of outstanding winter movies that highlight the human condition. If you haven't yet seen The Revenent, then throw that in there too and make it a marathon.

Yeah, it didn't look like my kind of thing. And when a major studio puts their movie right up against Star Wars, you know expectations aren't too high.

I haven't seen it, but people I know who have seemed generally disappointed. Most seem to expect it to be funnier (and I would too based on the trailer).

WHOA!..... DUDES....BROTHERS....... Brawl in Cell Block 99 just went on the Top 10 Guy Flicks of All Time or at least damn close to it. Vince Vaughn's greatest performance! One of the best movies I've seen in a year. This was just raw.... and gritty.... and more raw.... and more gritty.... with an overdose of human element. @Clark Kent where the hell are you my friend, this is right up your alley.

Dunkirk. was. awesome. Total movie for the senses. Cinematography, style, and music score paired for a great experience. Powerful film I thought. Clapped at the end..... and I was at home, lol. Gotta watch it in Blu-ray.

I made the mistake of watching it on the plane back from LA. good movie, but I lose all the elements you spoke too. may have to watch it again at home. ...as far as the VR - porn. yes, it's all that. but my VR system is in the living room, so very few opportunities.

Ughh. Overall, just a terrible movie with so much wasted potential. Was a throwback to the bad action movies of the 70s and Tarentino knockoff by an amatuer director. I really wanted to like this movie as it had Vince Vaughn and Don Johnson in it, but overall this movie blowed. Any scene with his wife (the ugly *** Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter)) in it, just fast fwd and spare yourself a waste of meaningless chatter.

Vince is really good in this role once the movie finally starts moving after 30-40 mins, but the gaffs, miscues, shoddy special effects, etc... are distracting. In short, its only good when he's talking badass or simply staring with a bored look on his face when someone is threatening him. Couldn't wait for this turd to end. They could've cut every single part prior to his going to prison and it wouldn't made a difference to the result. Outside of the prison fights and Vince's badassery, there wasn't a single thing worth watching here. Don Johnson was a caricature who brought nothing good nor memorable to the role. Strother Martin (Captain) from Cool hand Luke he ain't.

No idea what you've been watching if this was one of the best you've watched in the past year. Watch some old Bronson movies instead.

For a really good movie with something new and interesting, catch "SOLACE" with Anthony Hopkins and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. You're welcome.

It’s got a 7.2 rating on IMDB ya putz, with like half the voters giving it an 8 or higher.

I love that it’s a deep dive into the human condition- how far down the rabbit hole a decent man will go to save his family, but with a fresh take on it. Didn’t mind one but that it had a B movie feel to it.

Right, cause the majority of people always are correct. Lol... The movie had a cool 70s feel to it that made you want to like it in a Jackie Brown sort've vibe, but if you think back on it you'll see that it was a giant "meh" with a few cool fight scenes sprinkled in and nothing before him going to prison moved the movie forward at all. Lots of irrelevant characters and dumb dialog. Again, take out those 3 or 4 cool fight scenes and it's a giant turd. Clay Pidgeons is much more enjoyable movie with VV.

Human Condition... lol... "how far down the rabbit hole a decent man will go to save his family" - did it escape you that

BradLEY was a drug mule/dealer? That he was only in that position because he was mixed up with other drug dealers with even dumber dialog? That he murdered several people throughout the movie? That he broke a prison guards arm savagely only so he could be put into Uber Top Secret Cell Block 99?

Sheesh. Only thing I liked about this movie were the fight scenes. Still, he was slow as molasses and build like a middle aged Dad who hadn't lifted more than a beer bottle in years. What was up with the stupid Neo-nazi Cross tat on the back of his head? At the start, I LOL'ed outright at him destroying that car with his "bare hands", which obviously had the hood unbolted so he could rip it off. And those geh looking hammer punches he threw the entire movie were so slow and off balance they were eye rolling to watch.

Anyone interested should just watch the 5 min youtube version. More enjoyable.

Jeff Speakman's "The Perfect Weapon" is a better revenge movie.

    Did you catch Solace?

    shaddup fartstain.
Yeah, he was a drug mule.... but he was still good at heart. He got fired from his job and discovered his wife was cheating on him on the same day, a pair of events that drove him to his new career, that and the fact that he desperately desired a child and wanted it and his wife to have the best home/life possible.

Then, during the sting, Bradley could've looked after his own ass & freedom [like 99% of the population would] but instead chose to aid the officers taking fire which resulted in his arrest. He subsequently chose to not rat out his boss [another selfless act], thus netting himself a heavy 7 year sentence instead of 4, despite showing immense compassion for the officers' lives he tried rescuing and risked his own life for. Coming to the officers' aid also ensured that the other drug dealer would have it out for him, even though it was said dealer's own pair of goons who were at fault for the bust to begin. Had the blockheads dumped the guns and money like Bradley commanded, they'd all be free.

So, instead of spending 7 years, minus early release, at an easy minimum security prison, Bradley is tasked with getting himself transferred to a maximum security prison [and a heftier sentence] in order to save the life of his unborn child. He again chooses the selfless tougher path. At the maximum security prison Bradley is informed that he's not in the correct location and needs to again get himself transferred, this time to the serious offender's block, a far cry from the no-handcuffs privilege-full jail life that he initially began with. He again chooses his unborn child's life over his own. At this point he realizes that there will be very little life left for him on the outside. From there he's required to kill an inmate which will surely increase his sentence to life, and once again he chooses his unborn child over himself, while also knowing that these acts will ensure that he never has a chance to be this child's father, which has to be crushing him. After this, Bradley discovers the drug dealing turd is in prison with him and realizes he must make the ultimate sacrifice - his own life - in order to save the life of his unborn...... and Bradley acquiesces once again.

Just one endless stream of taking the harder path and looking out for others at the expense of his own well-being, even with the consequences being high. He sacrifices his life on the outside and then makes the ultimate sacrifice for a child he's never met. Bradley loves something so much and yet will never get to spend a second with him/her, let alone raise him. I thought it was a powerful movie and was moved by it. Vince's badassery and cheesy 80's special effects were merely icing on the cake.

Yeah I've seen Solace. It was decent, nothing memorable but an enjoyable flick.

    ....continued.
If you believed Cellblock 99 was about revenge then I think you missed the point of the movie. It wasn't a revenge movie at all TBH. There was a bit of coincidental revenge at the end but that wasn't what pushed Bradley through the movie.
To me the film was powerful b/c you have a regular guy [Vince V], whose pinnace of his life represents the thought of being a father. That's his driving force, so much so that he won't even allow his wife to cut veggies for the one in a billion chance that the knife ends up in her tummy. He then sacrifices his freedom and ultimately his life to ensure the safety of his unborn child, whom he, as a result, will now never have a chance to know, let alone meet. He's beyond ecstatic with the knowledge that he's saving his child, even at such a high cost, yet you know he's emotionally tortured to the tenth degree by the realization that he'll never become a father. It's a massive conundrum: man desperately wants to become a father; man risks his freedom & life to save his unborn child, but by doing so it means he'll never become a dad.

It's kind of a man's man version of the ultimate tale of love and sacrifice. When watching the film from that angle, I think it takes on a much different feel than superficially treating it as a random revenge flick. It's so much deeper than that, and as someone who loves and cherishes the little one I take care of, I can relate to his emotional state and the self-damaging actions he's choosing on his child's behalf.

    Oh, good grief...

That's the thing, he chose not to be a regular guy. He was always different - hence the insistence on being called "Bradley" instead of Brad or going by a catchy nickname like "HillBilly" and the writer/director never explained why he was a redneck or said stuff like "Howdy", "Adios", etc... instead he got fired from a tow truck job, found out his wife was humping some other dude, which being a good Christian, he promptly forgave her for (after all it was the car's fault) and turned to being a drug mule for some ahole with a "Billiard's room" - then we find out he's got this immense moral compass and he's all about 'Murica and right and wrong and loves the idea of wanting to be a Daddy.

    And the Korean abortionist? GTOH.

He should've been innocent and got framed. He coulda been an ex-boxer who was towing cars and got set up cause he refused to fight on the downlow and some gangsta framed him to send him to prison to fight or something. Then he coulda had the high ground all the way.

As it was, it was a silly B movie that made as much sense as most of the B action movies from the 70s.

Much more entertaining, with better acting and nice visceral cinematography. I enjoyed how they tied the seemingly erratic visions of odd images and mundane things into the story.

But yeah, no paper-mache heads to crush or bad lines from heavies like "Die pig!"

Just watched it. Beautiful movie. Older Chiron was so in sync with young Chiron that you really felt like you were witnessing an older version of himself.

After seeing the film, it annoys me that there was such a gay overtone attached to it, as if it were a Brokeback Mountain or something. There's probably thousands of people out there who've chosen not to watch the film b/c they believe it's about homosexuality when it's really not, just as you pointed out.

Watched Baby Driver. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I am a sucker for movies with good driving/chase scenes.

Jamie Foxx is easily hate-able as Bats, and John Hamm is great I think in his role as Buddy.

Waiting to see that next week I think. Gotta have a night where I can watch it alone so that I can see it on Blu-ray with the surround sound cranked up. The soon-to-be ex and her uber sensitive ears & tinnitus are a real killjoy when it comes to music and movie watching. Gotta have the sub turned off and the sound limited to a TV-level volume when she's home, yet she acts like I'm the weirdo for liking surround sound and nice bass, as if millions of people don't visit the theater each month or own a surround sound system themselves. Thankfully she works nights a few days a week!

Yea, the music in the movie is really good (I didn't find out until after watching that it was directed by the same guy as Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim; two other movies I liked).

I too love surround sound (running 7.2.2 currently with a 92" projector screen) and cranking it up. My wife would only say something at the highest of levels (like if the house shakes) thankfully, provided she isn't in the same room at least.

That's awesome man. How do you like the 7.2.2?.... and is there enough product formatted to it? What speakers did you go with? I found a pair of Thiel SCS4's at an estate sale and am utterly blown away by them. Notably nicer than the KEF bookshelf & satellites I'm using. Now I gotta find 3 more, but even used they're still pretty expensive.

I have not the capability for more than like a month and a half, because I just got a receiver that could do Atmos. Prior to that my older receiver had DTS:X and Dolby Pro Logic IIz, that could use height channels, but the atmos heights seems to utilize it better in the couple movies and games I have played. Regardless of the content, the receiver will matrix the sound via an algorithm to output it in an appropriate channel if it seems like it should be high.

I haven't changed my speakers for like 5 years (and hopefully won't for at least another 5), but I have Mirage OMDs for all my non-subs. 28's for FL and FR, a C2 as center, 15's for surround, R's for the rear, and 5's as the height. I have a SVS PC13-Ultra as one sub and a PC12-NSD as my 2nd sub.

:knucks: You certainly have the right mindset, no the receiver alone isn't enough to properly power them. They're way too power hungry. I have a Emotiva XPA-2 (2-channel Amp) for the FL and FR, a XPA-5 (5-channel Amp) for Center, Surrounds, and Rears. The receiver only does the heights.

Watched Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. Good premise, total abomination of a film. Felt like the writing, directing, and cinematography were done by a trio of people who spent their entire lives inside a plastic bubble isolated from society and normal human interaction. Made a mockery of Americans' respect toward the military. Made the soldiers seem like an immature group of Frat boys who can't behave themselves in public. Combat scenes that utterly lacked a pulse. Terrible acting.... with far too much melodrama and campiness for that genre.... and too many distracting, annoying zoom-ins during dialog.

It's as if the writer Nicholas Sparks and the directors from his cheesy romantic chick-flicks (Dear John, Safe Haven, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember) made a movie about war and PTSD. Vomit.

Just looked up the actual director- Ang Lee. American war movies should not be done by the guy who directed Brokeback Mountain.... and Sense and Sensibility..... and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.... and the Wedding Banquet. Ugh. And how the f*** does this get a 6.3 on IMDb?

Anybody not seen Only the Brave yet? Whoa. Needs to go high up on your watch list. Powerful film that everyone should take in. Prepare to drain the tear ducts though. Utter goddam shame that this only grossed $18 million/$23M worldwide (budget of $38M), while Fifty Shades Darker of S*** takes in $114M...... or that XXX Return of Xander generates $44M ($346M worldwide). WTF is going on with this country?! How is it that Only the Brave can LOSE MONEY but the god awful Rings' (2017) income can triple its budget?

it's all about what makes money not what's good if it was about what makes money and what's good white chicks would be the greatest film of all time. (which it was)

No offense, but I'd never heard of the movie before you posted. It seems to have had close to zero advertising. And after reading the blurb about it on IMDB, it seems like its pretty slow. While I respect the work that firefighters do and the danger that they face, its not something that I'm even going to sit and watch for two hours in my house on TV, let alone spend money to go see in the cinema. I think that a lot of people go to the movies to be entertained.
