Any book by Nelson Demille is outstanding. He lives not far from where I grew up on Long Island and hes not only extremely nice but I found during my college days as a waiter that he was a generous tipper...

Ok ... Storm Front was pretty good. I opened Brother Odd and realized it was the third book in the Odd series, not the first. So last night, I picked up Odd Thomas.

Wow. It's one of those books that really makes me want to chain myself to the PC and do some serious writing.

At the very least, it makes me appreciate details that surround me, because it's written in such loving detail itself.

I saw a Peter Hamilton book in Borders the other day and almost bought it. Would have if it was in paperback I think. Thanks for the recommendation, I love me some good Sci-Fi.

Im sure hes likely been mentioned, but I LOVE Micheal Chrichton (I think I misspelled his last name :P). Loved damn near everything hes put out, but Sphere I think was the craziest wildest ride.
Big fan of Tom Clancy as well.

They are generally kinda crappy, but I enjoy novels based off of video games. Halo series, warcraft series etc. Fun quick reads is all, certainly nothing mind blowing, but sometimes its nice to just be entertained :)

For some serious Sci-Fi stuff, can always drop in some Asimov or Clark or Card. Cant really go wrong with any of that stuff.

I have recently gotten into Tim Dorsey. But, you have to start with his first book and read them in sequence, as he has recurring characters. His first book is "Florida Roadkill." HIGHLY recommend it.

Talking about disturbingly funny: The world needs more people reading Christopher Brookmyre. Here's a guy who made me buy a novel simply because of the title ("A Big Boy Did It and Ran Away"), wrote the best first sentence in literary history, wrote the best chapter headline in literary history and can believably portray a class reunion involving rocket launchers.

anyone interested in Clancy type stuff, check out Vince Flynn's series.

he has gotten alot of mainstream publicity in the last year, because he seems to have a knack of writing about topics before they become forefront in the news.

he also vets his material with CIA covert operatives and Special Forces types for accuracy, and researches his military hardware from top to bottom, from guns and who uses what type in what situation to what choppers the Navy Seals use to insert and extract in certain situations.

i am finishing up his 9th title now, and i just started reading his stuff in December. i finish one and run out to get the next one.

my personal favorites are Term Limits (1st in the series), Memorial Day, Consent to Kill, The Third Option, Act of Treason, and Protect and Defend.

they all work as stand alone books (i read the last two books first), but also follow along chronologically with main character Mitch Rapp, who is kind of a Jack Bauer dialed up a few notches.

A friend of mine gave me this book, and I read it last night. It's not going to win a Pulitzer, but it was entertaining with solid character development. A good read for those who like football.

I just started The Race by Richard North Patterson.

I've enjoyed his past endeavors, and this effort looks like it will be entertaining as well.

Book: A Land Remembered by Patrick D. Smith

    Pages: 402

Time: Refers back to 1858 I think it was.

What its about: A poor family that moved from the north down to the south and overcomes many obstacles and strugles to make a living.

Comments: A really good book. In the beginning it may bore you but it gets a lot better. Definitely a good read imo.

I'm really surprised no one has recommended "Randy Wayne White's) Doc Ford novels. http://www.docford.com/

If you liked John D McDonald, you will love the Doc Ford series. With Randy Wayne you will always get a little ancient Florida history tied into the beginning of each novel.
