after the major upset today, he is done and theyre going with Mahomes next season.

Would love to bring Alex in to compete with Tannehill and as insurance incase Tannehill goes down again.

There are too many teams that need a starter. He will get good money somewhere to be a starter.

I still have the picture of him at Ft Lauderdale Airport seared in my brain from that visit.

He's a lateral move from Tannehill.

It'll probably take a 2nd rounder to trade for him. Not worth it.

alex smith is better than people give him credit for.....I would be happy if we landed him...don't think that would ever happen and I cant see KC letting him go anyway. Im good with going into next season with Tannehill.

I agree. Denver, New Jersey, Buffalo, and Arizona all have clear openings. Washington and Minnesota could pending free agency losses. Who knows whats going on with Luck now in Indy with his health. And there have been more rumors that Big Ben could retire after this year if the Steelers win the Super Bowl.

He’s going to demand a large contract and that’s not happening here.. Ryan is entrenched..

Lets see Tannehill or Alex Smith ?????

    Thats a tough one, lol...

Not with standing his stellar year on the sidelines in which it seems people now know that he is that dependable, consistent QB we've all been craving... Wow....

We are doomed because even the fans are mediocre content....

And a second rd for Smith would be a steal and won't happen ...1st rd +....
I'd give up our 11 in a heart beat..... but the organization isn't even close to being real contenders.....Christ people are satisfied with a playoff level even if the team sucks much as we seen last year and this year with the Bills...you honestly think the Bills are even going to win a game ? Our goal is to be mediocre...

This evaluation and opportunity passed is the Same kind of stuff that makes us what we've been for the last 2 decades....pretenders.......hey enjoy the disappointments...
Sorry to be so negative but really people to even think about RT vs Alex Smith as something you have to consider is laughable.....

Just saw another early stage rumor, KC possibly getting rid of Andy Reid ...I'd be knocking on that door hours ago if that was possible...

My guess is that our backup will be drafted fairly early. He will be "the best player available" aka plan B.

If we were an expansion team, or a horrible team with an 0-16 or 1-15 record that had more holds to fill than a colander I’d make a play for Alex Smith but that’s not what we are and QB play from Tannehill was not our problem last season.

Now if you want to draft a QB for backup then ok but we have other priorities that need addressing first, otherwise it won’t matter who is under center

If the Denver's defense can step up again next year, with Smith they'd have to be one of the SB favorites.

QB play was, actually a rather large problem and truthfully has been for years. So an Alex Smith potential IMO is a tremendous consideration. And most likely a legitimate vital needed position that isn't the easiest to fill (even though there are many holes to fill). So when you have an opportunity like and an Alex Smith falls in your reach IMO you'd have to be a Dolphin strategist to not consider it heavily...

I know theres the RT band wagon and the hope that after 5 years he'll be productive and more importantly consistent as shown in a few games last season. But my thoughts would be to let him go and grab Smith, I've seen enough of RT ( 5 yrs) and be nice to know we have a proven QB and not dependent on our fantasy for RT to be true ( which honestly, also has the possibility). And after that hole of QB securely filled go after the OL and other needs. How many decades have we been trying to fill the QB position...

No argument about all our needs and it will be probably several years if even done right to have a legitimate contender and not just another mediocre playoff pretender (us 2016, Buffalo 2017). and IMO having an Alex Smith for another 5-6 years to build around would be a good start...

But like the previous poster said I also doubt he'd even come here even if the staff fell on their heads and noticed the good idea....

Great match for Cousins, Smith a good plan B. Tyrod Taylor would be an upgrade too, though he's a step below those guys. Between them and Jacksonville, there are some really solid teams with QB as the big hole.

It took Smith 6 years to post a season passer rating in the 90's. It took RT 3. And I think both teams were on about the same level of ineptitude so I think it's a fair comparison.

Thousand dollar question, in which the unknown factor is playing a big part.

    What is Tannehills ability ?????

Is he the guy we saw the last few games last year or the inconsistent player we've seen for 3 1/2 years...

Two side and I guess I'd go for the QB thats shown more ability with consistency, the drawback is he's 33.... I wonder if it was Brees people would be more open... I'd take Smith instead of the gamble on RT and the chance of losing and spending another 10 years looking for a QB...

Smith also ranks at the top of the league in pass completion percentage (77.4 percent), passing touchdown percentage (8.3 percent) and game-winning drives (two). RT, ????

Tannehill is just average, doesn’t do anything great. His intangibles are mediocre at best and I feel I’m being generous here. Also, his “big game” performances are terrible and that’s a fact. So in any big games, I don’t know why we would expect even mediocrity from Tannehill when he is proven to be horrible here (see: week 16 and 17 in 2013)

Some of you guys are utterly incredible. You all called for Joe Philbin’s firing, citing his ineptitude.

Philbin goes and in comes Gase and in Gase’s FIRST season as head coach WITH Tannehill at QB we posted a record of 10-6, reversing our previous year’s record, with essentially the same personnel on the roster. We went from zeroes to heroes.

We lose Tannehill during the preseason and Gase tries some outside the box thinking by bringing in Cutler. Sadly that didn’t pan out and we’re back to zero again but who are all of you pointing at as the problem? The very guy who didn’t play at all this season

I guaran damn tee everyone of you Tannehill is going to lead this team back to playoffs next year...PROVIDED the defense can step up.

    Wow... I admire your directness....

I have to agree though and do acknowledge his good play on that occasional basis. But occasional doesn't cut it and thats all we have to go on besides some wearing those colored glasses who think they can evaluate the level or real improvement after the whole season on the bench...But looking at the majority of his actual playing time over 4 years makes their evaluation questionable at least.

Hey IMO truthfully I'm with you but also feel the possibility though not enough to not consider an Alex Smith that RT could possibly surprise us....I mean to be fair thats possible...

But hearing our organization Gase with praise, doesn't do much for me because Gases statements I've learned to take with a grain of salt and find hard to believe in....

Matt Moore helped last year get us to the playoffs, I don’t think Tannehill has the nerves to complete a full season and take us to the playoffs, maybe if he didn’t get hurt he would of **** the bed again like 2013, that’s the only proof we have of how he would perform in big games. Thank god Matt Moore got to finish the job for him or everyone may be singing a different tune on Tannehill.

    Agree
Moore IMO better than average Backup QB... Backup
I'm just amazed at the level of acceptance of our team based mostly as I see it on making the playoff last year. Ya they made the playoffs but still were a mediocre team at best which also was reinforced by this season. They see the playoffs and lose they minds and Dolphin credibility.
Like Buffalo a playoff team that also is a mediocre and crappy team. If thats what the fans want playoffs and a mediocre team so be it. Me, rather a team getting stronger and consistent as time goes on over seeing the playoffs as the goal..... We sucked last year and made the playoffs and sucked this year and had a shot at the playoffs. And are still on the suck path due to a poor organization that doesn't know what its doing
    I'm just old school...
Christ Alex Smith IF out there, please at minimum think about it......unbelievable, but the newish Dolphin standard I hate to say.
