Well, he said a couple weeks ago that he prefers the "RB by committee" approach...so I don't think he will stick to the feature back scenario once Williams is ready to roll. It's also important to remember that Gase is super-high on Williams and I think we will see him next week if he's ready to go. So I both agree and disagree with you at the same time....I'm fairly confident that he wants a stable of workhorses but I also think he will rely on Drake a lot more down the stretch.
stewart mcafrey, murray henry, just another example need one guy to move the piles on the goal line and one to break out in the passing game and be elusive.
Henry and Murray don’t have “roles” per say... they have “drives” if anything or you can label Murray as the first 3 quarters and Henry as the 4th quarter finisher... and Stewart really isn’t that good, he’s serviceable, but he’s only had one or two good, good games all season. Ingram and Kamara present teams with true “roles” and they are both dynamic at handling their roles. That’s what I mean. NE has always run similar backfields but none were ever as dynamic as what NO has down there.
That kid alex collins has great feet as well... I don't understand this whole fascination with different style of running backs taking up roster space, I don't want any one dimensional players I want backs that can do it all so that there are no tells to the defense when entering the game.
I wanted him when he entered the draft... kid was doing everything in arkansas. Now i want Myles Gaskin out of Washington here even with Drake doing well... look him up... myles does it all
why Seattle let him go is beyond me.. the do have the rejuvenated Mike Davis, who I liked as well coming out.
Shame we couldn't have snatched up Joe Mixon. He's getting some of the worst blocking in the nfl right now, but that kid is going to be the next L. Bell. Power, speed, vision, quickness, and pass catching ability for days.
I believe what Gase wants is simple. Do your job and run the plays as called. He wants players who buy into his coaching. As far as who is the better back; Drake by a long shot due to the above stated reasons.
All three are an example of good blocking as well. Stay with your man and do not give up, if you are beat, keep on pushing the person, because you do not know what the runningback is going to do. A good runningback can make the most out of decent blocking. Kind of like there is an addition by subtraction with Bushrod being injured.
What's funny is that long run Drake had was him improvising instead of running it to where it was designed. Same thing Ajayi was criticized for doing. Difference is the line is sustaining blocks better now and not allowing as much penetration into the backfield.
The play Drake improvised on was a play with deep penetration in the backfield. No one was telling Ajayi to not improvise when there is someone there right when he takes the hand off.
BS...the difference is Drake follows the play 90% of the time and deviates only when there is no hole while Ajayi just ran how he wanted to and rarely got past the line of scrimmage.
Wrong, even gase publicly admitted that Ajayi ran the plays as designed most of the time. His improvising was an exception not a rule for him.
He also publically admitted that he tried to bounce it outside too many times instead of getting the most out of each run
I didn't say we had versatility at TE. I said he wants it. Now, if you don't know what versatility at TE means, then A) I'm not shocked at all and B) I don't care.
I don't think he wants a versatile tight end as he brought in Thomas and made sure Miami kept Cameron last year.
I think if there was a TE that played like Cameron/Thomas used too and blocked like Fasano, he'd be all over it. And it would be for the same reasons he'd want a RB that can play like Drake and a Lynch.
Who wouldn't? That would be an amazing tight end. I think if he valued versatility Gray would get more snaps as he is the most versatile tight end on the team. Heck, he can even play quarterback.
It was in a press conference, a reporter asked him this question and gase responded that Ajayi ran the plays where it was designed most of the time.
Curtis Martin was just fine between the tackles...similar size to Drake. Drake does fine in those situations because he does not present a target to hit easily..similar to how Martin ran between tackles
Ok, but I think the problem is that since we don't have that, we're forced to go with a pass catcher or a blocker. Since we have to do that, he might think it makes more sense to go with either the best pass catching TE or the best blocking TE based on the play/situation. I think it just means he doesn't have a lot of confidence in Gray. Now maybe there's info we're not privy too about Gray. Maybe, like some of these other guys that don't get a chance early (like Drake) Gase is waiting for something specific to click for Gray.
This is what I envisioned for Drake and Grant since last year. Gase stole parts of my Madden playbook haha. I stated in my draft review of him he that had the potential to be a good rb if he stayed healthy. I stated his max potential was Edgerrin James. Ricky Watters is another good comparison. It reminds me of when no one gave Terrel Davis a chance; they told me I was wrong about him and now Drake. Well, I hope I am right about Drake also. I would still draft Chubb or Sony Michel in the later rounds if possible.
But according to you, Gase has it. He has done no wrong in roster management. He personally went after Thomas and traded our LT for him, essentially. So you finally admit that Gase has made roster moves that have been poor and is digging himself out of it
Ok, quote for me where I said he has that and he's done no wrong? Do it right now. In fact, I don't even give a **** which alt account you use to post it on either.
I think TE should be our number 1 target in the offseason, either signing a guy like Jimmy Graham or drafting Mark Andrews from Oklahoma in the 1st round. We need a Gronk type player to take this offense to the next level. Look at how the patriots play without Gronk, it's like night and day.
I am pleasantly surprised so far. I still think we could have got a 3rd at least for Ajayi however. It always seems like we're in a rush to take the first offer, we have nobody that can make a deal. But back to Drake, I always thought he had potential honestly. I'm glad it's coming to fruition, hope it continues.
I don't think anybody was going to drop a 3rd for a 1 1/2 year rental at rotational back. It's a credit that we flipped him for anything.
