The failed savior of the Phins Offense a few seasons back is now OC of the Bengals. Anyone else think Dalton and Tannehill are cut from the same cloth and this is destined to fail too?

    Well away from here
Well if the organization and fans weren't happy with the offense before, they'll have people hurling themselves from the upper deck in a month.

Dalton has made the playoffs 5 of the last 7 years.

edit: The only years he didn't make playoffs is since Lazor has been there.

That means absolutely nothing to me. Brock Osweiler made the playoffs last year as well.

The dude is only successful in a great scenario, he at best is a product of the system. That dude will never lead a team to the playoffs without a TON of help.

How is Marvin Lewis so good at using everyone else as a scapegoat?

He made the playoffs but what's really memorable is what he did once he got there. In his 4 playoff games, he's thrown a total of 1 TD and 6 INT's lol... and he's never had higher than a 67 rating (across all 4 games he has a 57.8 rating).

Then again.. the Bengals lead the league in years since their last playoff victory at 26 LOLOL! Their last playoff win was in the 1990 AFC Wild Card game, so I guess it's not just a Dalton problem.

Coaching matters... that drop off coincided with losing Hue Jackson while Lazor and Zampeze taking over QBC and OC roles.

They went from 7th in scoring under Jackson to 24th under Zampeze last season and now can't score TDs at all it seems.

They also lost their 2 best O-linemen this offseason. Zeitler signed with the Browns, and Whitworth signed with the Rams. Blocking helps QB play. ;-)

I put up a couple of posts in the last two offseasons analyzing Lazor's playcalling.

The TL;DR version is that Lazor is a good playcaller when he isn't behind on the scoreboard or down and distance. However, he is far too predictable when he is under pressure - calling too many passes, and many of the plays called having predictable route trees.

On top of that he has persistently failed to change even when instructed to (by Coach Campbell for example), or in situations where it was plainly obvious his play calling tendencies were being exploited. This is the man that is so stubborn he lets the rest of the league know his QB has severe restrictions on audibling and fails to see the problem.

What we saw in the Bengals-Ravens game is purely a microcosm of the phins 2015 season on offense. Once the opposition D had a lead they knew that the playcalling would go pass wacky and were able to anticipate the pass routes. I didn't see the game but reports were the Bengals OL were being overwhelmed by the passrush, which is another point of similarity.
So with the same coach applying the same process in a similar situation, you don't need to be Einstein to work out what happened next.

I have dusted the feathers with his daughter Whitney a decent amount of times while we were each at ASU. Was very good looking then, very cool girl. Showed me letters he would write her every week, rings, pictures with players with all of them. Very close knit family! Really cool story, she came over to watch some football one night, asked me what I thought of the Bengals all without me even knowing, I answered her good enough luckily and then about halfway through the evening I noticed her nails bengals. I said hold on, started questioning her and then she said it was her dad, good job. Still not wanting to believe, she pulls out her phone and then in the following months shows letters and such. Very cool girl and family.

Nice. Hopefully you got to know her REALLY well.

I do not doubt he is a great guy, but he has seemed to underachieve at a high rate for a long time.

If they are a 5-6 win team, I see no way he is retained.

I still say, in general terms, you need a young & cocky OC and old and grizzled DC.

The offense is in the driver's seat and they attack. The defense is overall reactive. That's why I want a young outside the box thinker on offense and a guy who has seen everything at DC.

Don't get me wrong. My favorite Dalton play was when Wake sacked him for a safety to seal a Thursday night game. I just think Lazor calls plays without regard to his player's strengths.

Lazor thinks he's smarter and knows better than everyone else, so if a play call fails it is the fault of the players for not executing correctly.

His staff is among the most poached every few seasons.

Hue Jackson was his OC and now the HC for the Browns and our DC, Burke, was his LB coach a few years ago...

No, they aren't cut from the same piece of cloth. Use a cooking analogy...Cook in restaurant "A" (Miami) tries cooking a certain dish with this cut of beef (Tannehill). He screwed the dish up. So now he's restaurant "B" (Cincinnati) , trying to cook the same dish with another cut of beef (Dalton).

The cuts of beef are just fine. Lazor's particular dish just plain sucks!

Because of the arguments from the past, things got to the point where the problem was Lazor or Thill.
