I guess I'm saying that it looks like they're trading the #3 pick for a player like Jimmy or PG. if so, great move. If they don't trade the pick, they're passing on Fultz for probably Josh Jackson. Which is dumb imo, because there's no guarantee the Lakers take Ball. If this is what they are doing, they should have waited until draft night. But they didn't, which tells me it's probably getting traded to Chicago or Indiana.
And they should be trading with Chicago or Indiana IMO. They should absolutely be in win now mode, and even still both players are 27, so they are just beginning their prime years. Even if they keep their pick, I wouldn't be mad at it if they weren't sold on Fultz, and IMO they have reason not to be. I like him a lot, but he has significant bust potential. It wouldn't shock me in the least if Jackson or Ball end up being better players than him. All three guys have big time potential.
Fwiw, multiple outlets (bleacher report, the score etc) saying the Celtics get one of those two picks...it's either the LAL pick or the 2019 SAC pick, not both. I agree the pick is getting traded...Knicks please for Melo. Thx.
More Woj Bombs Indiana engaged with multiple teams in George trade, but NOT the Lakers Seems there is both a rental and a "we'll try and convince him" market Let's go get it. Make the deal for TJ/Winslow, dump McBob and get Heyward too. If he then leaves then so be it
If he ends up in the cavs somehow i dont think ill hate a team more than kevin prtchard and Indiana. Aside from Durant's move from OKC to GS, this would be the ultimate weak move. I absolutely hate when middle to bottom teams continue helping the same two teams become better. You arent suppose to help the cavs or the warriors, you are suppose to figure out how to beat them, not make them stronger and unbeatable so that your team does not stand a chance. There are 30 teams in the league that can offer just as good of a package as the cavs can. They arent going to be trading Love or Kyrie, so what are you after? Love andPG swap doesnt even make sense, you become extra small and lack a scorer at the 4 and 5. And are they really going to go after Tristan Thompson? Lol doubtful I swear i cant recall the last time Riley traded away a star that helped a contender become better. He traded shaq to Phoenix, and did that help them any? No.
You're aware Boston has 9 (yes 9) 1st round picks in the next 3 drafts? If they want George, it's going to take a hell of a lot more then Johnson and Winslow. Probably need to include two firsts at minimum. Also, the Lakers, at least from what I read, are not willing to give up any assets to get George. They feel they can move of the awful Deng, Mozgov or Clarkson (slightly less awful) contracts and sign PG next year.
A Love/PG trade makes a great deal of sense for Indiana. Love is under contract for another year or two. The Pacers have a good defensive big that can help cover Love on defense. Love would provide as much or more offense then PG and likely do so in a more efficient manner. While PG is a better overall player he also only has 1 year on his deal. Cleveland lost that series to GSW because of defense. As of now, Cleveland is basically hard-capped with little or no immediate picks to offer (I believe they dealt a future 1st in the Korver deal). So how else is Cleveland to improve? And how much does this help them if it happens? If they are smart Cleveland tries to attach Shumpert to the deal. Maybe it looks like this...just a guess... PG at 19m For Love 22.6 and Shumpert at 10m maybe throw in a future 2nd to sweeten the pot for taking shumperts awful contract. Something like that fills a 2 guard vacancy for Indy and they get a legit 4 and collect a future asset. It also gives Lebron another ace defender so he's not always guarding KD. The question at that point would be, would Indiana even take that over what ever Boston and their armored car of 1st round picks offers?
Except aren't the rumors that the Celtics are going after Butler? Will they have enough money and/or assets to get both? I think the fact that George made it known that he will test FA and wants to go to LA drops his value a decent amount. You're now paying for a rental. It's hard to sell the farm for a one year rental when damn near every team looking to get him has little chance of winning a title this year. Now, if you're Miami or Boston, you hope to sell him on your culture, but it's a big gamble. I think a package of Winslow, TJ, and whoever they pick at 14 will be about as good as they can hope for. If I'm Miami and I feel good about selling him on staying, I would consider a package including Dragic, but I'd have to feel really good about keeping him.
Let's be real about this for a minute....Boston is going to get whoever they want if they offer the right amount of picks. If they want BOTH Butler and PG they'll have them. Literally all they'd have to do is attach two from Smart, Bradley, Zeller and Crowder and they could even absorb Anthony and Butler, even with Anthony's bloated 15% trade kicker. Ya, they're paying for a rental. Consider though at trade deadline both Atlanta and Denver reportedly offered 4-5 first round picks...each...for PG. You think getting 2-3 from Boston who literally owns like 15% of the next 3 drafts first rounds is going to make them say no? Ainge did a masterful job setting this up.
I'm pretty sure GM Lebron would trade Love for PG as they don't have **** else for assets. Indiana should accumulate young players and picks and tank a couple of years.
They still have to fit both under the cap along with their other core players. I also don't think distant future picks are very desirable. If they have to give this year's 3 and the future pick they got from Philly, those are their two big chips. Sure they have other future picks, but I wouldn't be all that excited about that kind of a return. As for the Atlanta and Denver deals, if true (and we really don't know that), those were half a season ago. At the least they'd have had George for a year and a half, and probably figured they'd have a decent shot to keep him long term. Now, there can't be much optimism unless you're one of the elite franchises, and even then it's a big gamble unless you're LA. Also, I'm sure Indy still was hopeful that they could try and keep him long term, so they weren't in a rush to trade him. And even if they did, 4-5 first round picks aren't worth a whole lot if they aren't lotto picks, and with PG they probably wouldn't be. I would rather a lotto pick in a loaded draft, and two young players with legit upside that a handful of future picks that you have no clue where they'll land. Let's not forget that Danny Ainge offered a bunch of those picks to the Heat for the chance to draft Winslow. I'm not saying Winslow is currently worth that bounty, but I think that shows you how much more valuable an actual prospect joining your roster today is worth compared to future picks.
No one is offering multiple 1sts for George in a rental I don't know why Cavs would do it either. Why give up a locked in Love for the rental?
3 reasons: 1. Better player 2. Could create more cap flexibility for a team that needs it 3. They match up better with GSW with PG then Love.
The cap isnt a big deal for them. According to pro basketball referencd theyre at like 70m in committed salaries. They move 1-2 small ones and theyre in great shape. And the thing is, the only "bad contract" they have is Tyler Zeller at 8m which is pretty reasonable. For better or worse you may be right about future picks. There are a lot of dumb front offices in the nba who are in win now mode because they dont realize they should be building for like 2020 when the cavs and warriors will finally be slowing down. The future picks hold more value, even if mid to late firsts, then many current players.
Theyre better defensively but not offensively. PG is not an off the ball player. Love is effective without the ball, he spreads the floor. I dont think they reach 6 games with PG, it's a lateral move at best to make that trade.
Some scuttle on Twitter that Indy is running a "blind auction" on PG. All offers on the table, no negotiations, at least up front LA can't do a deal without unloading Mozgov or Deng so I don't see how they get in without a 3rd team. I also can't see Cleveland offering Love, particularly in a "blind" situation. So then, who? Heat makes as much sense as anyone. TJ/Winslow/McBob or Ellington with 14 works and leaves the Heat with enough space for Hayward. Whiteside George Hayward J-Rich (presuming Dion leaves) Dragic That's an ECF team and if George leaves and you've gotten rid of TJ's ballooning contract you have max cap space in '18 when Westbrook is free I see zero risk to this move as even the worst possible scenario isn't that bad
Ok, it's Windhorst, but he is saying that Cleveland, Lakers, Miami and Boston are all in on George and that any deal is likely to be done before the draft Of those, Heat are the only team that can take PG into space or potentially take back a bad contract. We have $12 million in expiring a they can take and they can simply decline the Ellington option and save $6million right now
How stupid are those massive contracts of Mozgov and Deng.. they got PAID like theyre franchise players.. both got 4 years 72 million.. gross
I wouldn't say zero risk. If Winslow develops and offensive game and you lose George in the offseason, then that's a big blow. I'd still make that trade easily, though. I also think it's better than anything the Lakers or Cavs can offer. I understand that Love is a good player, and was a really good player when he was on the Wolves, but he's going to be 29 when the season starts and the Cavs won't be able to give any additional young parts to go along with him. If I'm the Pacers, I'm in full rebuild mode. I'd rather a package involving young talent and higher picks. I also think out of any team, Miami might have the best chance of convincing George to stay in Miami. Call me a homer, but the Heat culture thing is real, and it's one of the best organizations in sports. You hear players say how blown away they are when they come to the organization. Also, if Miami can somehow hit a homerun and also land Hayward, that's probably the best team he can go to if he wants to win. I'm not sure that any team (real or imagined) can beat the Warriors, but I think that team has a chance to beat Cleveland, and maybe you catch the Warriors getting complacent after a few titles. I'd still say the odds are against getting George or Hayward, but either would be fantastic, and both would be amazing. A starting lineup including Dragic, Hayward, George, and Whiteside would be pretty fun to watch.
Riley is only in on this because he believes in himself, the culture, etc. so yes, we'd have a chance. Certainly Winslow may develop but I wonder how much better his shot can get. Otherwise he's a very good role player on a cheap contract
Is there any reliable idea what the Heat will do with this 14 pick if the player they take with it isn't part of a trade for Paul George? It seems like Barry Jackson has covered about 30 different players that the Heat could be interested in at that pick.
I haven't seen anything. Looks like they brought in mostly bigs so I'd figure that's the way they're going if they keep the pick.
Barry mentioned that there's a rule change that allows them to stash developmental guys on roster and this may translate into them trying to stash a high potential big that needs development, and they've been looking at players that should go in areas of the draft where the Heat do not currently have a draft pick. I had been looking at a lot of different guys and Ivan Rabb is one that was interesting. He comes off like a very, very smart player. But he's not physically developed enough and played on a bad team. If the Heat end up picking in the late 1st round area then I wonder about him because of the obvious basketball IQ. He's a guy that likes to run the floor and be in space, who likes the pick and roll, high basketball IQ, good hands, versatile in the way he can score, etc. Just seems a natural fit.
Yeah I saw that. That seemed like a step up in the rhetoric. Not just interest, not just an offer, but being all in for him. Barry Jackson is not careless with his rhetoric or language.
I honestly think it could be any of about 20 or so names. Section mentioned that they wanted "a SF that can score", but I'm not sure anyone in their range fits that with the exception of maybe Jackson.
Cavs are supposedly trying to put together a multi-team trade to net them Jimmy Butler. Interesting domino effect. The rumor was that the Heat are paying attention to whether the Celtics can pull off getting Jimmy Butler, because it damages their ability to pay Gordon Hayward. And if the Cavs do get Butler then the Celtics could also up the ante for Paul George.
Woj reporting that Minnesota has talked with Chicago about Butler, which makes sense. Minnesota would have to give up Wiggins though I imagine. Presuming that Towns is untouchable
Some speculation out there too that these Cleveland talks are not real and that Griffin is just puffing his own market as he's a free agent in his own right in a few weeks Not sure he actually has the authority to make these moves
That wouldn't be terrible. I understand there's not much love for Carmelo but the Heat have a great record for getting players to "buy in" and elevating them defensively.
As for Butler, I continue to be mystified that Bulls are considering trading him. They have him under contract for 2 more years. Anything could happen within that time. Two more trade deadlines. Makes no sense
I certainly wouldn't hate it, but how? Melo would have to agree and Knicks would have to take all our garbage
Would take Ellington, McBob, TJ and Winslow Only other way is to wait until Bish contract off and we could take him for free. Not seeing how we get him and Blake
Lakers offer for PG is supposedly Randle, Clarkson and #28. Obviously, they feel confident offering so little. We beat that, particularly if Cleveland and Boston are both concentrating on Butler
Woj Bomb David Griffin and Cavs have mutually parted ways Chauncey Billips (yes, that Chauncey Billups) expected to be in the mix. No way they can make a franchise altering decision in 48 hours
