I remember once, when I was in 2nd grade, the kid next to me shat his pants. I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China, but hey, it's your time you're wasting. lol
... and to add to this (while walking on egg shells with my words), You should be able to assume that the film apparently told them all there was to know to not attract attention to their interest in him in hopes they could get him, while assuming he'd be gone before 22 at the same time. So why waste visits and time?
This. Nobody is saying he's an incredible run defender. However, what's being said, and what should have been seen is he's not nearly as bad as people think, or are saying. I think we have to remember too, he's a speed rusher really. So, yeah if he doesn't recognize a run right away, he's going to over pursue the play. Experience and coaching will help that, and help him be more disciplined, and you hope he can add strength to help as well. Again, nobody's saying he's a superstar, but you should be able to see what's there, and that it's not as horrific as some want to claim. There's work to be done to develop him, but there would be with anyone we drafted. It's being blown out of proportion IMO.
For 1st round picks, DL picks have the lowest percentage of success in becoming consistent starters at 58% (tied with WR and RB) according to this: http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2015/2/20/8072877/what-the-statistics-tell-us-about-the-draft-by-round 1st Round - OL (83%) LB (70%) TE (67%) DB (64%) QB (63%) WR (58%) RB (58%) DL (58%) They define "consistent starters" as starters for at least half their career. Harris fits the profile.. could be great but risky. I'll judge after we see him this season. He should at least make it clear why he was worth taking even as a rookie. But if he doesn't become a consistent starter? Grier (and whoever else was involved in this decision) deserve all the flak they can get for wasting a 1st round pick. Above all else one shouldn't waste 1st and 2nd rounders.
After some further reading it would seeem Atlanta offered at least their First round pick, 3rd round pick, and 7th round.
Yes, we completely dropped the ball not trading down. With all of our different needs we need all the picks we can get and would have still been able to pick a great player with atlanta's first rounder. Really hating the draft so far looks like another dissapointing draft as usual. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Ya, around that ..... barring any unforeseen significant jump in run stopping ability his rookie season.
Great assessment. My sentiments exactly. Another draft another letdown. Nothing has changed in Miami as far as talent evaluation is concerned. We changed the coach but we kept the same inept personell people from previous years. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Well, then if you trust the unknown person, we should too, right? Interesting opinion. Some good points, but care to elaborate on the source of this opinion? This holds about as much weight as the guy in the youtube video for me at this point. It's not different to me than my opinion, or my neighbors, or my co-worker without a source/qualification. Not trying to give you a hard time, just curious on the source and it's credibility.
I would have taken that and ran honestly, I don't hate the Harris pick but I would have taken that in a heartbeat.
This post is disgusting. We better not catch you ever criticizing the front office. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The problem here is you're acting as if your opinion is wrote, he hasn't taken a snap and you already have him as a "letdown", but lets face it, the only "letdown" so far is that they didn't draft the player you wanted. I like Willis too, but there is a reason that nearly every expert had Harris ahead of him, Willis is a "stiff" player, his bullrush is going to dry up in the NFL, I think he'll be a decent player, but not much of a passrusher.
This is a guy I trust. http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/charles-harris?id=2558001 Also, I just went back and looked at the mocks by Rob Rang, Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah. They all had had Harris off the board before the 22 pick. Good enough for me.
Willis is not "stiff". He is in fact the best athlete on the defensive line in this draft other than maybe Garret. That is provable with hard numbers nobody was even close to him at the combine. The bull rush is only one move in his extensive reportoire, he usually wins with speed and power to the outside shoulder. He also has a great spin move similiar to Harris. Also has great hand usage and swim and rip moves. Also has better production than Harris. On top of that he is ten times better than harris against the run and is a much more polished and better player overall. Either way it's not about them not picking Willis. It's about them picking a very raw, flawed and risky player in the first round when we should be allergic to those type of players at this point given our previous experience with first round busts. There were about a dozen other players I would have been perfectly happy with them picking other than harris. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
If I do it won't be 1000 times across 100 threads about something that doesn't really bear itself out immediately after it happens (the draft). It also won't be after a culture shift and a season where we made the playoffs. I'm all for criticism, but not for excessive and doomy whining over something as abstract as the NFL draft.
No you don't have to trust anything. Truthfully most people aren't going go one way or the other based on someone else's opinion because they have an opinion. So who ever scouting report goes with their agenda that's what their going to care about. And that's fine. Guys that have worse scouting reports in round 5 end up as pro bowlers sometimes. So no one knows for certain. My initial thoughts on Harris weren't positive. I read plenty of positive on him. However there is so much regurgitating rather than actual scouting. If you are so convinced you are a great talent evaluater get off of a FAN FORUM and apply to be an NFL scout because clearly you are in the wrong line of work.
Read the whole article man. The reference to the trade offers is toward the end of the article. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Again, it reads nothing about Atlanta or what was offered to Miami. I saw that there were trade offers last night, however, I see nothing about Atlanta or what any specific team offered.
The reason why he mentioned Atlanta is because Atlanta was one of the teams looking to trade up and they in fact did trade up with Seattle for the 26th pick in exchange for Atlanta's first rounder plus a 3rd and a 7th rounder. If seattle got a 3rd and 7th from Atlanta for their 26th you can be sure that Miami got offered at least that if not more for their 22nd pick. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
No I can't be sure of that. We have no idea if Atlanta wanted to move up to 22 nor if they offered Miami anything.
We can take an educated guess that in fact they did. Seattle knows whats up. They traded down again and out of the first round completely to stack up 10 total picks most of them in the second and third rounds. That's where the meat of this draft will be and that's how you conduct a great draft. That's why seattle has been a much better team than us in recent years they actually know how to draft and evaluate talent. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
There is absolutely no guarantee that Atlanta had any interest in moving up until after Miami picked. Moving up is almost always predicated by the players other teams draft.
That doesn't make sense. If they thought they could get their guy with the #26 why would they want to move up to #22 and give up more? I'd still like to see where Rock read that.
Well, if you are completely convinced Harris is going to be the next Wake-like DE for your team, I guess you have to turn down the trade offer(s). I hope they are right, an extra third rounder would have really helped this year.
It does make sense they had no way of being sure if their guy would make it to Seattle and probably offered the same compensation to the teams picking before Seattle. Its just that seattle was the one that took the deal. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
No it doesn't. Where do you think they started to look? #15? #13? #10? lol...There is no way to even know, unless something is leaked, if Atlanta offered Miami anything. For all we know Seattle was the only team they made an offer to...
Probably after the 20th pick. Yes we have no way of actually knowing but it's a good possibility that's what happened or something similar. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
It looks like Seattle and Atlanta were talking days before the draft about that trade.. and it looks like Atlanta wanted Harris! https://www.profootballrumors.com/2017/04/falcons-seahawks-mulling-draft-pick-trade
Obviously you're focusing on the wrong team. A Superbowl-WINNING team clearly wanted to trade away a pick that could've netted them Harris lol.
Well yes, trading up is not the smartest move in this draft which is deep as can be. More picks is the way to go. Seattle has the right idea. I would not give Atlanta a good grade so far in this draft. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
