Lets play the what if game.. I know I hate that as well because we could do this forever but lets take a few situations and see what you as the General Manager would do right now..

Situation 1: Chad Pennington gets hurt in the Second Quater of the Preseason game against the Jags.. Shoulder Injury out 4-6 weeks.. Whos your QB?

Situation 2: You just traded Jay Feeley one of the top rated Kickers in the NFL for a rookie who in real games has been losing confidence missing 30% of his kicks now. Knowing your games will be tight and you need those points what do you do now?

Situation 3: Ricky Williams playing for a contract shows he's still got some gas left in the tank sporting over 1000 yards and want's a big new contract.
Ronnie Brrown slow to regain his 2008 form manages to get 700 yards this year but stays healthy. Knowing Rickies potential to fall off the wagon how do you handle it? Trade him? Sign Him?

Situation 4: Your wide reciever tandom sucks. after 6 games your facing 8 man fronts on ever down beacuse your Wideouts can not get open or drop the balls all the time.. How do you generate some space for your QB and move the offense? Knowing the defense does not respect your wideouts abailities?

yes.. I was somewhat bored today but these are situations that might just happen to us early in the season. What would you do in one or all of these cases to improve the team without saying I would sign Payton Manning or something that just won't happen unless your playing madden!?

    1. Go with McCown, Beck, Henne (listed in order of seniority)
    2. Made the decision now got to go with it.
    3. This is the hardest for me. I would love to keep Ricky but a big contract would be out of the question. If Ronnie stays healthy all year, he is the future. Ricky would have to be a trade/sign at respectable salary.
    4. Again there will be people that can be brought in however, right now, its a rebuilding season and you have to keep your guys in there and hope they grow during the year.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Kinda quick but at work and did not have alot of time to expond on anything so kinda kept it short and sweet.

The title needs to go. Especially because its never clarified that it's not true.

Also. Even if Bill retired, Ireland is the GM.

Chad Henne. IMO, it's becoming crystal clear how the coachs view these guys. Henne is getting way more reps than Beck or McCown. So if Pennington goes down, I'll take the guy that the coaching staff has at #2.

I let it ride. There's no sense in getting too bent out of shape over a kicker during year one of a rebuild. If anything, I have the offense run more 2 minute drills in practice, to be better prepared for this situation.

No matter how well Ricky plays, his past and his age will dampers his value. I'd offer him a fair deal, somewhere in the ballpark of $3mill base salary. If he gets a better offer, so be it. Ronnie has shown what he can do. If he gets 700 yards in a reduced role, behind a 1,000 yard rusher, then he is showing that he is on pace for a full recovery.

Also, Ronnie can't regain 2008 form if 2008 hasn't taken place yet.

I'll make use of tight ends to account for the extra defender in the box. I'll also use the TE more in the passing game to keep the linebackers and safeties honest. Once Fasano makes them look silly on one playaction pass, they will show some respect. Also, I'd use more WR screens. Those are quick plays that can get the ball in the WRs hands early. And guys like Ginn and Bess can use their illusiveness to get good YAC yardage. I'd also throw a flea flicker in there once a game. Just to send a message. Let it be known that once a game the opposing defense will have to stop a flea flicker. They will definitely not want to be the ones to get burnt.

I would start who ever is second string because they obviously earned that posioin of second string.

I would try to see if there were any veteran kickers in free agency =. If there were no veteran kickers I would try trading for a kicker. But if I could not trade for a kicker or pick one up I would try to make my kicker in this case Carpender I would give him as much pratice time as possible.

    1. Any player in the NFL could get hurt at any time. I don't think you can worry about this, or bench a player in preseason because "he might get hurt."
That is like keeping your Ferrari in the garage and never driving it, because you are worried you could wreck it. Ohhh, and if Pennington does get hurt, than I think you go with Beck as he actually ran the offense at the end of last year.

    2. Dan Carpenter got steadily better over his career in Montana, and he can kick 50+ yarders. I say roll the dice and give him a chance. Feely rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, especially when he said he didn't want Ricky Williams on HIS team. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Jay.

    3. I think Ricky Williams will be the Comeback Player of the Year this year.

    4. We have to be able to run the ball to open up our passing game. I also think the Phins should utilize their Tight Ends a little more. Anthony Fassano can be our Jason Whitten.....when other teams blitz we hit Fassano with some quick slants and dink passes. Then when the D-backs start cheating up, Chad lets fly with his long passes to Ginn and Bess.....I think long for the Noodle could be a 20 yarder. :shifty:

I agree and thats why I do think it is very possible we go 7-9 or 8-8.

We are going to run the ball, its the one thing we SHOULD be very successfull at. I think this FO loves Ricky and kept him, not only because Ronnie was injured and for insurance, but I honestly think BP thinks that Ricky still has alot left in the tank and we are going to ride him alot early and see how it goes. If they are right, I can see Ronnie really being eased back into it, and maybe not get as many touches, even later in the year, as we might expect. Don't get me wrong Ronnie will get his touches, but if Ricky lights it up early, I can see his total not being what we would have originally thought.
