I know it's hard to be overly optimistic about anything brand spanking new when we've all used the previous forum, but I was curious what everyone's first impressions were. Personally, I felt the old forum was a lot better but it looks like the tech team is still activating features and such to get us back up to speed.
There's a lot of layers to this that people need to know that even I didn't know til 3PMI mentioned it to us. Part of the reason for the change was that the old forum software which was a decade old. In tech years that's like a century. That's relevant for forum features, security, and the amount if people we can have on at once. I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago and trust me, no likes change less then me, but we gotta do what we gotta to keep the board functional. Some of the plug-ins that were missing will be working soon if they aren't already.
I voted heck yeah cause there was no middle of the road option. Its pretty, but seems a bit "animated" if I can figure a word to use. It will grow on me im sure. Nice work everyone.
I'm a bit irritated, not gonna lie. I kept using my quick link from the frequently visited sites list in firefox, and I've been getting a 404 not found error all weekend. Come to find out, that's because that link doesn't work anymore and the forum has been back here all along! Stupid me I guess! haha As for the new layout, will take a while to get used to from a visual standpoint, but it looks good! Nice job guys.
I can honestly say without bias, I love the new look. Especially on mobile. My first reaction was "wow, awesome". I know 3pmi is also working on new theme choices that will hopefully give everyone an option they like. Looks aside, you guys have no idea how much of a leap forward the site just received from the change in forum software. The difference is night and day in every aspect (speed, support, security, features, development and more). This is a bright, bright day for the site.
Signatures are a bit of a mess for some folks at the moment, admittedly. It's near the top of the list of things to fix. The old forum software allowed a tag called [sigpic] that the new does not. Just need to search for all of those instances and replace them with a normal image link.
That wasn't you. I missed a redirect for the lowest level path folks likely had bookmarked, which is directly to the forum.php of the old site. That was pointed out to me a bit ago and is fixed now. If anyone else notices any broken links, please let me know.
That's the one I was using. lol It's no big deal, I was only poking fun at the fact I thought this place was dead, when all along everyone was here lol
Is that something I can do on my own? I see where I can change my avatar, but not signature anywhere?
If you click on your avatar/username up in the top right (in the navigation bar) you should have all of your options and things you can configure. Signature should be 2nd one down on the left. Can also go here: https://thephins.com/account/signature
When I do that, signature is not there in the list. When I click on the link, I get an error about not having the permissions to view that page, or perform that action.
Theres some issues going on right now. I just posted something in the Club... it cut off part of the post. Tried to edit it... says its posted, but it just... does nothing. Deleted it. Tried to re-post the whole thing (had it copied and pasted). I put it into the box... hit post reply. It just sits there... does nothing. I just posted, and edited this with no problem though. Trav... I suggest being patient... they probably have to just change your permissions. There were a few minor issues, they'll get it fixed up im sure
"Have I ever let us down? How far have you come because of me? I will bring us through this. As always, I will carry you, kicking and screaming. And in the end, you will thank me."
I liked it from the gitgo but as I use it, I find it easier to navigate and more intuitive, less work. Way to go
I'm not liking it, but maybe I should reserve judgement until the entire new process has been implemented. Seems to be a work in progress and stuff appears to be missing. Time stamps are an issue at the moment it seems.
I like the new design. I think it probably looks much better on mobile platforms, as well. Are there plans, with the new software, to expand the offerings of content here? Or will it remain a dedicated message board? Just curious.
Agreed... forums are template based. Not a fan of this default template and the limited functionality of this new forum. Old one was easier to read and to interact with. Made much better use of screen space and was much more intuitive. vBulletin is an Internet standard. No idea what this software is but it's not impressive. The admin should have been able to upgrade the infrastructure and the software without something this drastically different or invasive and provided a test case before implementing would have been nice. Feels like a Wordpress or Drupal site. Looking forward to improvements asap.
I think this new one, while more improvement are needed, is more functional. The notifications work(stopped working on the old one), and thread subscriptions work(also stopped working on the old one). But I prefer the layout of the old version.
There are lots of things we can do now that we couldn't before, but we don't have anything set in stone at this point. Priority one is to work out all the issues from the migration, then work on some more themes. After that, we'll look at adding new features.
I'll just leave this here for any vbulletin fans: https://www.avforums.com/threads/vbulletin-is-dying-no-vbulletin-is-dead.1793735/
Dont like it but I'm a creature of habit. I dont care about flashy things or all the options. I mean it's just a message board. Im sure Ill get used to it in time. I have yet to check it out on my mobile. Still gettingThis site can’t be reached in chrome and just figured out I had to use firefox to get here tonight. I thought the site was down this whole time so I'm a bit annoyed.
