NBA Headlines Gordon Out Of Chicago? Guard Ben Gordon and the Chicago Bulls talks of an extension are at a stalemate. It doesn't look likely that he will be back in Chicago due to them not even coming close to a deal. When Gordon was asked if he would be back in Chicago, he replied with "Honestly, right now, it doesn't look like it". Link I want to point out that the contract negotiations between the Bulls and Gordon are likely around a difference of two to three million. Gordon has been asking for $12 million a year and the Bulls have offered approximately $9.9 million. New Celtics Acquisition Improving Celtics off-season acquisition Patrick O'Bryant has steadily been improving his game. He has been working out with assistant coach Clifford Ray who helped Kedrick Perkins of the Celtics and Dwight Howard of the Magic blossom. Link
In the words of a T-Wolves fan I met at a bar 2 years ago: Al Jefferson for Kevin Garnett? No. Hmm...
Headlines Boozer Won't Rule Out Europe Utah Jazz Forward Carlos Boozer is eligible to opt out of his six year deal next off-season and has stated that he is open to all offers, including playing overseas. Boozer says if the money was right and if his wife was "down with it", he would consider the possibility. Boozer is the third NBA superstar to talk about the possibility of playing overseas, including Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Link Cavaliers After Bucks Williams? The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in acquiring Bucks PG Mo Williams. The team may be talking a three-team trade that involves the Cavaliers, Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Michael Redd, a long-time target of the Cavaliers, will not be traded says Bucks GM John Hammond.Link Hawks Possibly Looking At PG Options The Atlanta Hawks are in the market for a Point Guard and may be targeting former Hornet Jannero Pargo and Shaun Livingston. Pargo is also being pursued by the San Antonio Spurs while Livingston recently turned down a one-year guaranteed deal from his former team, the Clippers. Link Hawks Williams Working Hard Hawks Forward Marvin Williams has been working hard this off-season, on the court and off the court. On the court, Williams has been spending a lot of time shooting three-pointers. He has also gained weight, reportedly up to 245 pounds with 7% body fat. Last year, the young forward was weighed in at 233 pounds. Off the court, the former Tar Heel has been back in class, hitting the books. Link "Flip" Drawing Interest Overseas Guard Ronald "Flip" Murray has drawn interest from teams overseas including Dynamo Moscow. Reports say he has been offered a two year deal worth $5 million.Link Bulls Players Want Gordon Back? Ben Gordon and the Chicago Bulls have hit a stalemate in contract negotiations and Gordon's not sure if he will be back. The Bulls are reportedly offering Gordon a six year deal worth approximately $60 million but Gordon has turned it down. Bulls player Loul Deng has supported Ben Gordon and says they would like to have him back. Link Gordon wants $12 million a year and the Bulls are offering $10. Somethings got to give lol. Another Big Man Off The Market Former Spur and Nugget Francisco Elson has agreed to a two year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. Elson is expected to be Andrew Bogut's backup. Link
Now Boozer is talking about Europe? Seriously I can see a big star leaving for a Euro League if the money they are talking about is real. Just spend one or two years there make about double your NBA salary and come back. Sad to see it happening if it does happen but the possibility seems very real right now.
Yeah, I can see a big star going to Europe but not anytime soon. I expect Europe to be like the MLS for a few years, collecting those "washed-up" talents or older players and then they could get a NBA star to bolt to them.
Headlines Thunder GM: NBA Not Worried About Europe...Yet OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti says the NBA shouldn't be worried about losing players to overseas just yet because the situations and objectives of players are different and the NBA is the best league in the world. Link Hawks Smith Thrilled Hawks Forward Josh Smith says he's thrilled that he has signed a new contract with the Hawks. Smith says he's ready to focus on "other things". Smith says he was anxious to get the contract done but understands it takes time. Link Three More Days And Artest Is A Rocket The deal that saw the Kings send Ron Artest, Patrick Ewing Jr. and Sean Singletary to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Bobby Jackson, Donte Greene, cash and a number one draft pick next season can finally be completed in three days. Why in three days? Because rookie Donte Greene's contract is eligible to be traded. Link Europe basketball will be like the MLS for a while imo, getting players that are winding down their careers. But eventually, they will get a superstar to bolt. Interesting that Smith is thrilled to have a new contract with Atlanta. He came out earlier this off-season and said he didn't want to be there lol.
I think that's a likely scenario with Euro teams having a lot more to spend than MLS teams. Essentially they'll get a celebrity player like David Beckham who's winding down and in it for some other reason than money and career achievements. As for long-term, unless the dollar really depreciates and basketball here is wholly unappreciated, I don't see superstars (the ones interested in winning a title or want to have a good reputation in the US anyways) bolting across the Atlantic.
Well it appears Andre Iguodala has just inked a 6 year $80 million dollar deal with the 76ers. Here is the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3532139
It was extemely important for them to resign him. And they did. This actually makes them a potential playoff team, I'm not sure how deep they will go but its a good start for them.
BREAKING: 3-Team Deal Lands Mo Williams In Cleveland, -RealGM Wiretap EDIT: ESPN Linkage ... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3533552
Yep, sorry for not posting news today. The Bucks traded Mo Williams to Cleveland for Damon Jones. Luke Ridnour and Adrian Griffin went to Milwaukee. OKC receives Desmond Mason and Joe Smith.
very good trade for cleveland, finally got a pretty good player for lebron...i think they should shop boobie around. mo williams>>>>>>>>>boobie
As the only Bucks fan, I kinda don't know what to think of this trade. I like the fact that the Bucks rid themselves of Williams contract because with Jefferson, Redd and Bogut we are gonna score a ton. Looks like Ridnour and Ramon Sessions who has been really good in the summer league will take the point. I think Williams still has some room to grow as a player, but he plays zero defense, which isn't good with Redd already on the floor playing zero D. Looks like we will have some cap room the next two years but who wants to play in Milwaukee.
I think they moved him simply because they have enough shooters. They have Joe Alexander and Richard Jefferson added to the squad. With Michael Redd there as well, they have plenty of shooters. Ridnour is a good fit for them imo.
You havent seen "no defense" until youve seen Luke Ridnour. Hes second only to Marbury in not knowing there was a defensive side to the game. I cant see how this helps Milwakee other then giving them cap space....
brandon roy is having surgery on his knee **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** he shouldn't be out more than 4 months but you never know with these things broooooooooooooooooooy
That sucks hard. At least you have Oden, Bayless, Aldridge. NAh I don't feel sory for Portland anymore.
we are deep but roy is the main guy on the team. he is the leader. especially with the hard schedule to start the season...
Headlines Hawks Sign Flippin' Murray The Atlanta Hawks have signed Guard Ronald "Flip" Murray. The six year veteran is a versatile guard who can play the 1 and the 2. He averaged 11 points per game last year with the Pistons and Pacers. Link West To Sign Qualifying Offer? Delonte West has been holding out for a new, long-term contract from the Cavaliers. He has received interest from teams around the league and overseas. Today, the Cavaliers acquired Mo Williams of the Bucks to replace the possible departure of Delonte West. Now, West is considering accepting a one-year qualifying offer from the Cavaliers. The offer is worth $2.8 million.Link Milicic To Utah? The Utah Jazz are in the market for a big man and they may have their eyes on Grizzlies Darko Milicic according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Their are rumors swirling around the league that the Jazz could offer a deal of Matt Harpring and Jarron Collins to the Grizzlies in exchange for the Serbian-born big man. Milicic is rumored to be currently nursing a achilles tendon injury. Link Sixers Looking For Big Man The Sixers added a big man this off-season in star Elton Brand. Now, they are in the need of another one. The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the 76ers are exploring their options to adding a Center after Jason Smith went down with an ACL tear. Smith is out for the season. Link Stefanski: Igoudala Deal Not Done Yet Earlier reports stated that the 76ers retained free agent Andre Igoudala with a grand deal but that may not be the case just yet. 76ers General Manager Ed Stefanski was quoted as saying that the team is "still negotiating" and that there is no deal yet. Link
I want him to sign with the Celtics even though that would be 3 point gaurads. But Delonte West could play another position or Eddie House could play shootong garud
I am dumbfounded by this move. How is it possible that these teams that trade with the Cavs are continually going out of their way to help them? In that Bulls/Sonics 3-way, the Cavs received 4 of the 5 best players in the deal. Now they get Mo Williams for a bunch of spare parts. Unreal.
I am happy with the trade. Joe Smith was a nice player I thought, but certainly not irreplaceable. And I thought Damon Jones was shear garbage so I am happy to see him go.
Yeah, I liked Smith. Jones doesn't know how to dribble lol. All he knows is set up at the three and wait for LeBron to throw it to him.
Headlines Marbury Planing To Play In Milan Knicks PG Stephon Marbury made a public statement last year regarding his playing future. He said after his contract with the Knicks expires, he would play in Italy. Many just laughed but now, its a real possibility. Marbury is planning on playing this year in the NBA and then heading to Milan as soon as next year. Link Dickau Goes Overseas Former Blazer Dan Dickau has signed a two-year deal with Avellino of the Italian league. He joins Earl Boykins, Carlos Delfino and Josh Childress and others who have made the move overseas. Link Lakers Sign Powell The Los Angeles Lakers have added big man Josh Powell to their team. The terms of the deal are disclosed. Link Kobe Sellin' Jerseys In China For the second straight year, Lakers Guard Kobe Bryant had the top selling jersey in China. Link
Simple: dumb GMs. That or the pieces the teams receive from the Cavs are more helpful for whatever strategy is being employed. Not every trade is supposed to produce immediate benefits.
