Meh, I don't even bother talking smack with rival fans anymore, I actually like getting a different POV from them that I won't get talking to Dolphins fans. It's easy to get carried away with SB dreams when everybody agrees with you. :wink2:

Yeah, I hear that alot.

If he were healthy for 16 games, yea I'll give you that. The guy might just be a walking jinx though.

That yearly money cements his spot in the lineup.

I agree with enforcer but I think the Phins management made the move to get us better in the short term. To me Pennington is no one to love, like I said before I don't think he has starting talent in the NFL (anymore) but on a team full of back-ups right now he is the best one. In the end Pennington gives the Phins the best chance to win now and I think the coaching staff and even Parcells know they need to win now or they can be fired (it could happen if the fans are bringing in no money).

The biggest problem I have with this right now is Parcells. I have never bought wholly into Parcells and his insistence on his old washed up QBs gets on my nerves. He had Romo in Dallas but he just couldn't get rid of Bledsoe and we could have a Pennington/Henne/Beck situation like this in Miami. I just hope Chad is the backup and Henne/Beck starts but it won't happen.

In the end I wish Pennington was the backup with one of the young guys starting but a need to win now (which I do also like) will push Pennington into the starting job. I want the Fins to win now but I also want the young talent to be developed and not hurt. I can live with this though with some nerves. This gives me more confidence for this season but for the future it worries me.

IMO Jenkins will be a huge disappointment this season. He also has never been the man in the middle of a 3-4 defense.

Richardson is now a shadow of his former self.s

What I'm looking foward to is if by some magical chance Chad is healthy for the Week 17 game in the Meadowlands is either how loudly boo'd or cheered he is. The only reason I can see why he would be boo'd is because he signed with Miami, but if the Jets are in playoff contention like people around here believe they should be, the fans should be in a good mood and Chad should get a standing ovation.

I personally will give him a standing O.

I don't know how Jenkins will fair but I believe it was someone here who told me that he has played the nose in Carolina at times.

Kris Jenkins is the perfect fit as a 34 NT. Sure he never played it in Carolina but his style was never to rush the Quarterback but to stay back and attract two blockers. So far in camp he has been dominant and he played well last night in Cleveland in the brief two drives we got to see him. Problem was nobody was creating pressure from the outside (Pace you bastard!). Jenkins is nothing to worry about, he'll be fine. We're worried about Pace and Gholston.

Not only that, they brought him in to play RT, and in 125 career starts, Woody has previously started just 5 games at RT. He has been primarily a center and RG in his career.

i like pennington. i was telling you not long ago, how he was better than anyone we've had since #13 donned a jersey. we have a nicely developing o-line, and a great backfield. give me a serviceable qb with some experience and consistency over time. play-off experience...all the better!

but i am confused about who gets cut, if we dont carry 4. josh is a 2.5 mil cap hit if im not mistaken. is it josh anyway? is the beck experiment over? very interesting indeed.

this is too much fun! and talk about a grudge come week 1 !!!!!!!

Hey, 124, how is Gholston going with the playbook? Did he struggle in the pre-season opener at all? I'm not bashing, I'm interested.

    Bledsoe/ Brady: Parcells.

    Bledsoe/ Romo: Parcells.

    Vinny/ Pennington: Parcells.

    Pennington/ Beck or Henne.....

Yep. Josh McCown will be released as I don't see Miami carrying a team with four Quarterbacks. I mean, Chad will probably go down with a torn or broken SOMETHING eventually, but Henne and Beck will be there.

I saw that too and I was pretty suprised. I think I really only saw them get after the QB once and it was Gholston pursuing and not getting the sack. I really thought you would have a bigger pass rush.

No smack here just friendly debate.

If he gets hurt this year, I'll concede that he's injury prone.

I'll give you Faneca and Jenkins, Richardson is old though.
The ? with Favre is that he was on the decline before his team had any talent. And now he's on a less talented team, and he has 2 months to learn a new system. And he's fighting father time, and he is surrounded by average skill players. And he's gone on record saying that he wont mentor a young QB
so when he retires in a year or two, you guys are in cap hell as well as starting back at square 1
Gholston was overhyped, I still have my doubts about him.

Gholston was f'ing putrid last night. He's been doing well against the 2nd team but last night he was terrible aside from one QB pressure. He cannot drop back into coverage yet, thats for sure. He made mistakes on at least three slant routes by Cleveland receivers, he was not in place at all. The Jets need to use him as strictly a pass rusher in 2008.

For my random post of the day: The best thing about Pennington is that he once lived in my home town and picked Webb High School in Knoxville over my the terrible football team that my high school has. So that at least tells me he has good decision making skills.

I've got to disagree with you there 124, the Panthers are the local TV "team", Jenkins was disruptor, a penetrator, not so much a stay at home NT.

When he had Brenston Buckner next to him he was a terror.

Pace had a pressure early on during the first drive too. Overall not an impressive first two drives of the season by the 1st team defense, but the run defense (minus the 12 yard run by Lewis to start the game) looked better for sure. Defenses also are usually worse off in the Preseason and do not blitz a lot at all as they are trying to hide things.

Plus, Cleveland has possibly the best line in the league.

    I'm not too worried.

According to Kris he's ready for the job and he's been impressing in camp and played well last night, pushing two backers back into the backfield, exactly what you want from your Nose Tackle.

I think he's pairing up Parcells old *** QB's with the younger guys throughout the years. He then wonders who will be the next young guy with Pennington.

Of course he is going to say he is ready, your not going to hear a player come out and say I don't I'm up to the job. Comments like this have bothered me for so long.

Just to let you know I'm not going after you I just hate when someone brings up that a player is up for the job or a coach says he likes a certain player. Of course they are going to say that to avoid a media firestorm or have the coach and higher ups chew the player out.

Sorry Mike13, but nobody is going to care about the weather or the Long and Gholston matchup its going to be all about Brett Favre and Chad Pennington, at least to the Jets fans and the national media. This game quickly could have Nantz & Simms in the booth, although they'll be doing the 4pm Jets / Pats game the following week for sure.

What is going to interest me is to see what happens once Flex Scheduling comes up. Weeks 11-17. The Jets have two night time games and you can have up to five or six I believe and you know John Madden is going to tell NBC to get the Jets on SNF at least three times just for Favre.

The weather thing was a joke, but its gonna play a factor, that was the point.
Hell the last time I went to a game in Sept, I downed 2 bottles of water in less then 10 minutes.

Don't doubt it. Teams have come down and won in September before, I'm confident the Jets can do the same. The better team should win. We'll see.

I had the chance to come down for the game with a group from JetNation.com that is going but I said hell no to that. I hate the heat as it is and the heat down there in September is something I do not want to be a part of. I'll be much happier in the cold of Buffalo in early November and New England in mid November.

I prefer when its cold as well, granted I've only been in really cold weather once when I went to NYC for New Years eve, but It doesnt bother me as much as the heat does.
At least you can control the cold by adding layers of clothing, when its hot and humid, you're ****ed.
