What do you think about the Chad Pennington signing.

Do you think there will be a qb competition between Chad Pennington, John Beck, Chad Henne, and Josh McCown if he will stil be here. If we do have a qb competition who do you think will win?

Do you guys think Josh McCown will last though camp?

One last question will you get a Chad Pennington jersey? ( I had to ask )

    Thanks for the input.

McCown will be gone. Pennington will be starter because he is getting close to six million a year. Beck may play this year if Pennington goes down. I don't expect to see Henne in this year but possibly starting next year or the year after (Pennington signed for two years).

    Gone by tomorrow morning imo.

Never. It makes me sick to read the words that he signed with us.

Even though he's been a Jet I've always kinda liked Chad...I'm geeked that we signed him. I don't expect him to be great...but I think he will make us better then most "analysts" predict and I will love watching them eat their words.

If he can do this for us...then I will buy his jersey...after he is no longer on the team and I can get an authentic on the cheap. :)

2 years, $11.5 million is starters money, not a competition Quarterback's money. Chad is the starter as soon as Miami comes back from their Preseason Game and hits the practice field again.

Personally, I like it. More competition inside the division, I'll still get to watch Chad and I think the Jets will have an easier time against him than McCown, Henne or Beck. The entire defense knows whats coming and knows everything about him.

Come on alen isn't that a little harsh. I mean the guy will make us a better team....this year. That being said no I won't buy a jersey just like I wouldn't buy a Trent Green jersey; they are both just stop-gags.

Also yeah I think McCown will go and it will be Pennington, Beck, Henne in that order. Also I'm gonna say it; if the Fins were going to get a veteran QB for a couple years then they should gave gotten Brett Favre.

No, the players just have had the pleasue of playing against him in practice and watching him from the sidelines in games. The only players really unfamiliar with Chad that start on the Jets defense will be Calvin Pace and Kris Jenkins.

Hey, I like intelligence and accuracy he brings to this team but he's a former Jet. I'll support the guy since he's a Dolphin though.

    To some extent.

The Jets offense is big time different with Brett Favre under center than it is with Chad Pennington under center. The offense changes big time. Sure they'll be some plays, but not as much as you'd like to think.

How so, shouldn't they have the same basic offensive scheme? A little different maybe but it won't be vastly different or the whole offense would have to learn it which is preposterous. So Pennington will have quite an understanding I would think (which still won't help a lot probably).

Personally, at one time, I thought Pennington had the potential to develop into something special. However, that was several season ending injuries ago. It seems the guy just doesn't have the body to take the abuse of a starting QB, he's probably realized that himself by now, and I've got to think that has taken an edge of his youthful enthusiasm. Bottom line, I think the guy *may* have a couple servicable years left in him (maybe not), but I don't expect much out of him.

He's better than McCown, and I think the idea is that competent QB play could factor into more wins and, consequently, serve better to nuture a good attitude amongst our young guys.

If not for that purpose, then this seems to be a senseless signing.

The offense will change somewhat now that Brett is in. They will use plays of his I'm sure, let him improvise, and do things that fit his strengths. Pretty much the exact opposite of Chad.

Either way, I don't see it helping much at all, if any.

And they're going to change the offense in 3 weeks ?? I don't think so...Favre is a great QB, no doubt but look at the history of WCO QBs moving back to a traditional offense...it isn't too promising...

That said, if any QB can make that change successfully, it'll be Brett.

As to our situation here, Pennington won't really give us too much info that we don't already have...the question will be is can we execute on D to stop the Jests...not whether or not we can get anything from Chad about the Jests D...

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again...the game plan won't be the same for NY then it was when Pennington was there. TRUST ME...one of the reasons they've wanted to get rid of Pennington is because of the way he limits an offense.

Get ready for the dink and dunk Fish fans. It's just tolerable when you're winning games, but it's like watching paint dry when you're losing. It takes a lot of the fun out of watching football. Seriously.

Why wouldn't they? They have a guy who's not only capable of taking shots down field but also loves to do it. No more 8 in the box to completly stifle the running game. The offense changes whether or not the playbook stays the same, so why not change some of the playbook as well?

Also consider that they've probably had some different plays ready to go in the even that Kellen Clemens worked out...plays with the kind of throws that Penny can't make.

The offense was very, very different with Kellen Clemens behind center than when Chad Pennington was behind center. Favre is going to get the Kellen Clemens playbook with more deep throws. You won't see the Chad dumpoffs while Brett Favre is leading the offense.

And as much as you want to talk about Favre interceptions, as of the last two years, Chad Pennington in 8 less starts has 25 interceptions to Brett's 33. He's not the mistake-free Pennington of old.

Does anyone remember why Lucas was brought in?

He played very good for Parcells when he was put in games. As for keeping TWO developing QB's for the long haul, I just don't see it happening.

Beck has trade value, they may choose to keep him for the rest of this year to get more value for him next year, but if they can get anything decent I've got to believe that he will be dealt, maybe before the 1st game of the season too...

It doesn't make sense to have him as a back-up to Pennington because history tells us that Chad won't last the whole season, and Beck still has never won a game in the NFL. He is only a couple of years younger than McCown too. He will be traded sooner or later, face reality Beck fanatics.

I think you have the right idea, only backwards. :pointlol:

Chad will be handing off and passing the ball to different guys, he will have a different O-line blocking for him. He will be going against the EXACT same defense that he has practiced against for years, and against the EXACT same players that he has been going against all summer.

I'm sure the Dolphins brass have him in the secret interogation room right now and are injecting the truth serum at this very moment. :tongue2::shifty:
