In preparing for us taking a CB first round since Myles Jack is out of the picture now , I'm doing some film study on corners and so far 1. I DON'T SEE whats so good about Mackenzie Alexander. Dude just doesn't make any plays, soft run support, no zone D, I think he was benefiting from a good surrounding defense more than anything 2. William Jackson III is way better than Alexander or Eli Apple. Tight hips, but even with this issue he still stays on his man. Playmaker. Ball skills ! 3. I want to like Artie Burns, but I haven't seen enough of him. Are there any Hurricane fans than can provide more info on Burns? At pick 13 which CB do you want to take? I'd say: 1) Vernon Hargreaves 2) Kendall Fuller 3) William Jackson
I like Hargreaves, and would love to have the team take him at #13, but I have a feeling that he'll likely be gone by then. I'll be happy with Alexander or Apple.
To me Hargreaves is the most NFL ready CB out there .But his pro day have shot him up where we dont have a chance at him unless in a trade up . Agree on William Jackson III .
like all other UM players of the last 10 years he suffered in college from being criminally used wrong and under coached. If he is available in the 3rd, maybe even in the 2nd i would snatch him up. He'll need some good coaching though, something he never got at UM. He's better than Sam Shields in skill, But Sam is much faster. I'd say he's pretty raw from the lack of decent coaching in college.
I know some people have been saying that about his pro day, but I honestly don't think that will move the needle on him. If you watch him on film, there's nothing his pro day showed that you didn't already know. IMO the only thing that could keep him out of the top 10 is his size. Too many personnel guys get hung up on measurables, and there is something to be said for him having some trouble covering guys deep because of his size. I do think the odds are long that he's there at 13, though, but I'm still holding out hope.
I don't agree on Alexander. I think he has the makings of a very good corner. I think the run support issue is overblown, and I think he can flat out cover. Apple is tough to peg for me because I think he has all the tools, but I think if you take him high it's a projection. I'm probably ok with taking him at 13 even if he is a projection, though, because I don't mind taking risks that have the potential to pay off big. From what I can tell on Jackson, he also has great tools, but is also very raw. As for Burns, I watched him a lot and like muskrat said, because of the atrocious coaching he got at Miami, it's hard to know just how good he is. I'd have to problem taking a chance on him in round 2, and maybe even at the end of round 1 if Miami were picking there.
The Dolphins appear to be interested in Jackson. Read more about it in Barry Jacksons excellent Sports Buzz blog http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/
