The thing is that not only are we looking for a veteran (which we already have) but we are also looking for a good mentor. McCown is a below average Quarterback that has struggled very badly this off-season. The guy has been very inconsistent and has struggled with turnovers during his whole career.

Sparano and co. know that Pennington can do what is asked which will likely be to manage a game and don't force the ball. Pennington can do that as you have seen with his 65% completion percentage and his 88 career QB rating.

Money is not an issue in this situation. The cap hit is not a tremendous one. It will only be $3.5 million and it isn't an issue for us because we have cap room.

my guess would be not...his career was in a black hole with the jets.

a black hole, with a chance to still be the guy. Now he's nothing more than a stopgap, and not even a good one because of his injury-prone-ness-ity. Yeah, thats a word now, injuripronessity.

I don't know, is it just me or does he seem not that old even? QBs play pretty well until 36 or so. If healthy he can do that (chances are not that high about that though:no:).

He is accurate as all hell. When he's healthy his arm is still mediocre but it's not abysmal and his deep ball has great touch on it.

Yeah, he doesn't seem that old to me either. I think he is 32 or 33?

Yeah, I would think that, too. With McCown having been in the league for 7 years already it's easy to make the assumption that we've seen his ceiling. Beck is a different story. It seems to me that the "plan" has been to have one veteran presence and 2 young, developing QBs. If Pennington comes in, McCown would be the most logical guy to be shown the door.
I also believe that if the FO did not feel that Beck has the potential to develop, he would have been gone long ago. His salary is small and the cap hit would be very friendly

I'm indifferent as to whether or not we bring in Chad. If they do, that's fine. If not, that's fine too.

If Chad Pennington becomes a Dolphin I will kill a bunny for every single touchdown he throws. Luckily no animals will be harmed during the season.

    That's pretty funny.

Also if the Chiefs get Pennington and Huard is released then he can come to Miami. :shifty:

Well alot of people wanted Farve and Garcia. So, I think he is alot younger then both those guys. Plis, a test was done last year where it should that half the teams in the league had older QBs starting for them. Old QBs are the in thing in the NFL. With the Draft being such a crap shoot I dont blame them.

Thats an embarassment to Jay Fiedler's arm. Chad Pennington's is worse. But he has a heart of a lion and will have to be dragged off the field or benched not to play. The guy could suffer 17 concussions and they'd still have to hide his helmet in a Government security guarded room to make sure he didn't find it.

He is an upgrade for your team, period.

I would care to disagree about your assessment on the arm strength with Fiedler. When healthy Penningtn has at least as strong of an arm. Fiedler only looked stronger because he threw with no touch.

From 2002-2004, yes Pennington's arm was stronger.

2005-Present? Not even close. Although brief, I did see Fiedler in person as a Dolphin and Jet (Preseason 2005 and Week 3 for less than a quarter vs Jacksonville). Fiedler's arm is stronger.

Yes but the problem with Fiedler's full arm strength throw was that it just completely missed everything. It was terrible. Pennington rarely throws a ball without touch. I think if he threw the same way Fiedler did at times to get more strength on it it would be just as strong.

the difference between this staff, and pornestache's is what the difference is. THIS staff would have quit calling those damned out patterns that were going back for six.

Trust us. We watched Fiedler lob passes for 5 years. His deep ball was about as accurate as an Iranian missle. It was lacking power and rarely hit its mark.

i see a lot of people answering 124's comment with retorts about bad accuracy. 124 never said Fiedler was more accurate. he said Fiedler had a stronger arm. this could be debated, but could very well be true.

no one said anything about accuracy. i think we all know Pennington beats Fiedler there, hands down ;)

Comeon man, stop making sense and actually reading my posts. I'm just a Jets fan, you shouldn't be backing me up.

    Thanks though. :hi5:

There is no doubt Chad has a higher completion percentage and better accuracy and a big part of that is due to his 3-5 yard dink & dunk style. Fiedler has a stronger arm, period. As much accuracy? No. But a stronger arm and posted a good record in Miami. Not his fault he followed Marino. Point is, I want Fiedler in his Miami prime over Chad 2005-Present.
