Anyone up for a footrace between Wade, Ginn, and Hanley to determine who the fastest player in South Florida is?

Ginn might be the fastest South Florida professional athlete ever. Charlton Jimerson was faster as a collegiate at UM though. (I head CJ once ran a 3.97 40????)

Wade would probably beat both guys off the line, but Ginn would eventually catch up. Not saying Hanley is slow, but I think both D-Wade and Ginn blow him away.

It was wind aided? LOL. I remember hearing it when I was in High School as Jimerson is a few years older than me. Im sure it was a little higher than that but somehow the legend grew. I can tell you that he was a track star there at UM.

EDIT: Just emalied my friend who went to UM and he said Jimerson ran a 4.29.

    Heat Claim Jones Off Waivers

The Miami Heat have claimed forward Bobby Jones off of the waiver wire. The 6'7 forward played for five teams last season. (Link)

    Heat Going After "Starbury"?

The Miami Heat may be interested in troubled Knick Stephon Marbury. Teams around the league are expecting the Knicks to cut Marbury. Knicks President Donnie Walsh said earlier this off-season that he would not buyout the player but would rather trade him. The Heat have also expressed interest in Jannero Pargo, Shaun Livingston and could be interested in Luke Ridnour of the OKC Thunder. Ridnour is on the trading block. (Link)

I would love to see Marbury in a Heat Uni...I think he would make a great addition to a playoff potential team.

His attitude worries me. Hes like Randy Moss with less talent. He quit on his team once, whos to say he wont do it again?

Granted the coach he quit on was a total D-Bag

eventually def. but I'd like for him to be given atleast a yr behind a vet. Starbury may not be the best to learn off of, but I think he gets alot of bad rep. due to his passion. Personally I dont think he's as big of a problem child as put out there to be.

I don't have a problem with adding Marbury on a one year deal. In fact, I'd be all for it. It gives him an opportunity to play big minutes and prove himself to the rest of the league, while Miami lands a legitimate stop gap at the PG position. Dwyane Wade has stressed over and over again that he wants to play off the ball more, and there isn't a better option out there at PG for the $1.9 million we have left to spend.

Marbury isn't a bad player at all. The issue with Marbury is that he was looked upon to take over a team and become "the guy" - an obvious failure. Well, we've got Dwyane Wade, Michael Beasley, and Shawn Marion. All he'd have to do is play his roll and take some pressure away from Dwyane. He's fully capable of being a 12-15 PPG / 4-6 APG type of player in this league.

Obviously, he's got attitude issues, but that's between Pat Riley, Randy Pfund, Erik Spoelstra, and Stephon Marbury if / when it comes to a sit down.

That's better, but still makes little sense.

Oh well, still glad to have you on board. 1-0 to start, maybe 2-0 depending on what the heck Sacramento's doing.

Wouldn't mind giving Livingston an opportunity; forget about Pargo. No chance he signs here for the little amount of cap space we have left.

He'll still be a pretty good backup PG for some team. All that potential he had is gone now though which is a sad thing. He had A LOT.

Like KiNG said, there's a very slim chance Pargo signs with the Heat. I expect him to be a Spur by the end of the weekend. He's looking for a three year deal. My guess would be he gets somewhere around eighteen million over three years. We'll have to see.

I like Diawara. Good bench player. I believe he was a Nugget last year. Dorrell Wright is looking for a long-term deal but may not get it in Miami. There are other teams interested in him so don't be surprised if he leaves. I believe he opted out of his deal a couple days in FA, looking for a long term deal.

All signs still point at Blount. I'm hoping we go after something else. I've heard rumors of a couple moves involving Brad Miller, he wouldn't be a bad pick up. Anyone know if Zo resigned?

Zo is still out there I believe. Miller seems to be headed to Chicago if anywhere. SAC is reluctant to let him go because they want him to mentor Spencer Hawes who has been impressive this off-season. However, if the right deal came along, they would be willing to move Brad.

Barring a big man move, it looks like the Heat will play small this year.

I just remembered of a pretty good big man out there. Former Spur and Nugget Francisco Elson is still available. Although, there was talk that he may be inking a two-year deal with the Bucks. The Heat could still make a run at him and I think they should. He's not a bad player.

We are absolutely loaded at the three spot. Shawn Marion, James Jones, Dorell Wright, Stephane Lasme, Yakhouba Diawara, and Bobby Jones. Scary thing is that only two of those players (Marion & Lasme) can play the four, although Dorell Wright has the potential to in a limited role when going small. Nothing wrong with allowing Diawara and Bobby Jones to compete, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Dorell Wright moved for a draft choice - we're awfully close to the luxury tax.

EDIT: Just saw Freestyle's post. Working on a contract proposal for Dorell Wright? Interesting to see that Miami views Wright as a long-term option. I was hoping we'd sign him to a multi-year contract, but I've always had serious doubts. $4-years / $10-12 million does the trick (team option after 2009-2010). Something around there. He certainly hasn't earned much more.

Also from that Miami Herald article -

Blasphemy. There's no way in hell Diawara is listed ahead of Dorell in the rotation.

Yeah they are stacked. Four of those could be on the roster come opening day. Your probably looking at Wright, Jones, Marion and Diawara. I don't expect Jones to be anything more than a 'camp fodder'. I don't see Lasme making the roster. You guys have nineteen guys on the roster right now. I believe the NBA maximum is 15. I'm interested to see who are the other two cut.
I don't see him coming back if there are all those guys at the same position he is listed. I think the signing of Diawara may have sealed that. I could see him getting a 4 / $16 million elsewhere.

Yeh we were discussing this earlier. I'm glad we got rid of him, and Davis, etc. But we really arent replacing these guys with anything that strikes me as much better. I mean the draft landed us a hopeful superstar, but other then that we have been pretty quiet.

I am sort of confused. Wasn't Alexander Johnson waived right before the draft? Miami Heat's official site still lists him on the roster. If he's not on the roster, then Lasme should make the team. He's the only shot blocker we've got outside of Anthony and Mourning, and Mourning won't be back until mid-season. This is how I see it playing out as of right now:

    G - Banks / Chalmers / Quinn
    G - Wade / Cook / Diawara
    F - Marion / Jones / Wright
    F - Beasley / Haslem / Lasme
    C - Blount / Anthony / Mourning

On second thought, Bobby Jones doesn't have much of a chance. Forget about Powell, Barron, Ahearn, etc.

I could see Miami swinging a 2-for-1 deal, i.e. Wright / Banks (contract) for a single player (Ridnour?).

    That would be a steal.

I am a huge Ridnour fan. he WOULD be here when we challenge for a championship.

That is the way I am evaluating the roster. (I am separating the "now" guys and the guys that will be here when we are contenders)

So far, these are the only guys I see that will be on the roster when we contend for a championship:

Wade, Chalmers, Beasley, Haslem, Jones. Adding Ridnour would another player to this list, and would put us a superstar and a couple of bench contributors away.

James Jones is a good player. He may not be as talented as Davis but he can make a bigger contribution to the Heat. He shoots threes very well and I believe is a good defender. As for Chalmers, he is still a rookie but he should have a good role this season. He's a good three point shooter, ball handler and defender. I think they are better off with playing Chalmers than Williams.

Not sure about Alexander Johnson. As for Mourning, Mourning did an interview about a month ago and stated he could be available come start of regular season. Other reports say mid-season but he says the beginning of regular season.

That looks good except is Quinn going to be back? I don't recall them re-signing him. If not, I know there will be a couple teams interested in him.

They have expressed interest in Ridnour so its a possibility. Is Banks contract expiring after this year? I think that's what the Thunder are looking for in a trade. Another big man available is Chris Wilcox. I believe Wilcox and Ridnour's contracts run up after this season.

    Heat Looking To Deal Haslem

Earlier this off-season the Miami Heat tried to move Forward Udonis Haslem. Now, they're back at it again. The team is reportedly attempting to move Haslem for a Point Guard or a Center. The only issue with a possible deal is the compensation that the Heat would receive. Heat President Pat Riley is worried that the team may not get enough back in the trade. Link
