you beat me to the punch and it was me who posted that in another thread. I made a few changes to my other post.

We can't win which was the point I made when this whole thing went down and i was called negative and a "DEBBIE DOWNER" I think someone posted.

It was so obvious the play made and then the subsequent money thrown at the offensive line. Believe me I was shocked at what Tannenbaum did. The money thrown at the line was a joke. We actually brought in (going from memory) 4 or 5 guys all getting paid close to league minimum.

Anyone ever heard of the old saying you get what you pay for. (most of the time) Bringing in players that get close to league minimum and expecting a mircle line to form is ridiculous.

TANNENBAUM DROPPED THE BALL BIG TIME

What scares me is we are going to double own on this guy and let him run the team in the future.

Ross is the reason I didn't renew my season tickets. To constantly keep guys around that are not wanted by fans or other pros on the team is mind blowing. He extended Philbin and brought in Tannenbaum. That was finally it for me.

Don't listen to others that call you a "Debbie Downer." If you've been pessimistic about the Dolphins since Marino retired, you've been right the overwhelming majority of the time.

We will be fine if we draft smartly and pick up the right free agents. I don't think Suh's salary will be the barrier keeping us from contending, it will be our front office's fault if we can't contend. We will have to see how the next offseason works out. I'm not a big fan of Tannenbaum, I wish we had picked someone else to run the front office.

I agree to a point, yes drafting well is the key to success, but this is a salary cap league, so money always plays a huge part in it, what about keeping the talent you draft? Next year tough decisions loom on our own home grown talent, there will be talent leaving this team in large part because of Suh's contract, and what about the following year, and the year after that?

It's never a small matter when 1 player is making 20 mil per, you could use that money to sign 4 good players, 3 really good players or 2 top talent type players, and Suh will be 29 next year.

That's exactly why drafting well is the key to success. You get the most bang for your buck with good draft picks, they're young, athletic and healthy. Plus they're more likely to resign with you as long as you don't short change them.

Signing free agents only works well if the coaching staff knows how to use them well. Belichick is the best example of this. He can take low price, high value free agents and get more production out of them than anybody (not just on the offensive side of the ball with Brady). We're on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. We've signed the highest priced free agent twice in the Tannehill era and gotten low value in return.

Totally agree, the Steelers do that very well too, and both teams will let players walk if they think they are over priced, and neither team usually spends big in FA, the Steelers never do.

Both of those teams very carefully select the players they will pay, where as we just throw as much money as we can at the biggest FA out there, we HAVE TO start drafting better and rely on our drafting ability, like the good teams in the league that have success and longevity.

That's right. Somehow we overpaid Wallace but they had the discipline to sit tight with Antonio Brown before he really proved himself.

It made more sense to think we could do more with Suh than the Lions even though we was playing at an extremely high level, but even a desperate franchise like them had more discipline than us in contract negotiations.

It doesn't mean they're always available or that you'll get value out of them. Everybody knows you need a good coaching staff to get use out of free agents.

Or simply resigning your own players that you know fit what you do, because we will lose talent because of Suh's contract, but some folks just don't understand that.

Yep, I completely agree and have said it myself. Same with Tannehill's contract. Just can't pay $210 million between two players, especially if one is being paid based on potential.

    Thank you

    6 yrs x 150,000,000 = 900,000,000

    900,000,000 / 210,000,000 = 4.29

    100/4.29 = 25%+ of cap over next 6 yrs on 2 players

    so what we now have

    900,000,000 / 53 players / 6 should be 2,830,188 per player per season

We now have 690,000,000/53/6 or 2,169,811 per season

So are we a better team long term?

The Steelers also have Big Ben, if we had a Qb playing at an elite level we wouldn't be talking about Suh's contract. I'm not blaming Ryan for everything but he's been just ok this year and that isn't good enough in today's NFL. I don't think Suh's contract is going to be what makes or breaks the team in the next few years. Suh plays at an elite level, those kinds of players cost a lot of cap space.

Well get comfortable, we are stuck with him for two more seasons after this, and Tannehill for one more season.

Who are we going to lose? Miller shouldn't command too much. Same for Mathews. OV? Maybe. But there are still ways to keep him. Cam Wake pay cut, restructuring other contracts, franchise tag. There are so many possibilities. I feel ok with Shelby and Fede filling that spot anyhow.

If we are talking even further down the line then it's not worth mentioning. A LOT will have changed by then.

Aside from whoever you mentioned, we could have guys that are going to command bigger contracts around the end of Suh and Tannehill's contracts. Just off the top of my head, maybe our RT James, Landry, Parker. Maybe some guys that improve, guys we draft this offseason.

You've gotta give yourself breathing room as a franchise and you can't do that when two guys are being paid $210 million.

Besides the cheating, the Patriots have consistently been a good team because they rely on the draft for their impact players. And once they had all their bases semi-covered, it allowed them to trade away talent for more draft picks...which lets them continually acquire and evaluate more young players than the average team. It also keeps their cap numbers relatively low and allows them to rent out the services of Revis and some other big names from season to season.

But we did the exact opposite. The Dolphins knew they had holes, plugged a non-hole with a player we couldn't afford, and then hoped that people wouldn't notice when we didn't have a true middle linebacker, a solid line or nobody to start opposite Grimes. So this really isn't a conversation about Suh...it's about balancing a team with the money you have at your disposal. And on that note, we completely failed.

Our front office did a terrible job leaving a few gaping holes on the team that cost us a potential playoff birth. No doubt. We have at least one more good (not great just good) interior guard and a good LB and a good CB and this team is having a drastically different season. We rolled the dice in some areas and it bit us in the ***.

I'm not saying it isn't a lot of money. But you are worrying about 3-5 years down the line? You have NO idea what will happen before then.

You have to if you're a GM. You have to plan for the future cap implications.

Then why are you asking me why I'm thinking about the salary cap 3-5 years down the line?
