All images complements of The Weather Underground. If a hurricane can threaten you, then you should have this weather site in favorites. Dr. Jeff Masters is a pretty darned good forecaster, and his weather site organizes just about everything with TONS of links and resources. Here is the link to the tropical weather pages; http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ Yesterdays low pressure system is today's tropical storm. Here is the current radar loop as of Monday morning 1004est. The system is more organized than even just four hours ago. Shear is expected to completely stop by later today, all it needs is time to get dangerous. As luck would have this one, it is already very close to shore, and the available energy is limited so very little chance of becoming a major storm exists at this time. Landfall is expected at Galveston, Texas this time tomorrow. They feature a forecast tracking map they call the Flash Tracker that I refer to a lot. The graphs give a visual to the forecast and the sea surface temperatures (SST) are there for your direct perusal.. remembering that warm water is the fuel. Please investigate the tools on the right. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200805_flashtool.html?extraprod=flashtool I don't expect this storm to become major, but it could bring heavy rain, gusts above hurricane strength and mild storm surge in less than 24 hours. Not much time if you have a boat in the water. I always worry about storms spinning up right before landfall, and I don't expect this one to, but please recall that Humberto did just last year, in almost the same place. (but later by a month so more energy was available ) Good luck my friends, especially you texanphinatic, thisn' is coming down your throat bro... tomorrow. I think this one is north of you m ino, just rain this time.
I started looking for this thread yesterday when I heard about this storm! You are becoming Hurricane Central Marty!
My step-daughter and her family moved to Texas a few months ago to escape (among other things) the hurricanes that messed up their old home and caused them a lot of grief. They're in the Dallas area, so they're safe, but the irony is not lost on me anyway.
I wanted to, but there was nothing to "show". The visible satellite loops didn't show any spin, and the center of convection was out of reach of the New Orleans radar. Despite the forecast, it looks to me that the center of circulation is trying to set up north of where it was earlier today.. which could change everything. Any closer and the landmass will inhibit strengthening.
First off.... Dallas........ YEEEESH. I spent 5 years there. You should have let me know so I could have talked them out of it. LOL. Secondly, they leave Hurrincane country for Tornado alley? They need an intervention Op.
Now my wife wants us to move there so she can be close to her daughter and granddaughter. I'm fighting the good fight to stay here.
Meaning I say 'yeah, yeah' in a disinterested tone whenever she brings it up, then explain how lonely she'll be with me still here.
Heh yeah this one will probably make landfall right about where I am a little to the northwest of Galveston Island. The TStorms arent to bad though, only bad one was before I moved down here, Allison about 10 years ago. Just sat in the same place for a week raining and raining and raining. Barring that should be ok. Brought all the loose stuff into the garage and expect it to get a little windy and wet tonight, but nothing to really worry about. Im just happy the store I work at got rid of the excess water we had sitting in the stockroom lol!
good luck bro.. Edouard has arrived at your door... the very good news is that this area is under a severe drought and this tropical event should help that some.
this storm has put me out of work monday and today as they have evacuated cameron parish but the one that worries me is coming up behind edwaurd as it seems more organized and it still hasnt hit the gulf yet. surprisingly though it did not rain at all monday here or in cameron(that i know of). the winds were going pretty good here at 5 this morning when i got up for work(just in case)and it's been raining here but nothing hard and heavy yet with no thunder or lightning.
I am glad everything is well with you bro. It just didn't have the time to spin up, and that is good. The landfall loop was colorful at the least; I see that according to Doppler that there were some gusts to 120+ knots.. nearly 140 mph, but this may be indicative of wind speed well above ground level.. Doppler is so cool.. on invest 99.. none of the computer models have it threatening conus at all, much less entering the Caribbean.. invest 99
good to hear about invest not threatening cnc66. the storm i was talking about though(coming up behind eduard) i thought i saw say in the 80w/20n area of the invest99 map you have shown..do you know anything about that one? i'll try and watch the weather again soon to confirm i saw something in that area.
Heh Eddy was a pushover really. Turns out its just what the doctor ordered for the most part, we needed a good rainfall. The worst of it passed a few miles to the north, but even still it wasnt any worse than most rainy days.
Very good Tex, I was just looking at storm totals, excepting just north and east of Galveston and Houston, it's been a steady rain, the kind that sticks, not runs off. m ino, there has been convection blowing up there all season, then they cross the isthmus and become a pacific storm.. three times now at least. Very little chance of pushing north.
whew good thing my brother his wife, and my 2 nephews moved from alexandria this december, it looks like it hit alexandria.
