if we trade every rookie that doesnt have a pro bowl year their first year we are gonna have a high turnover from year to year.

And that is what we are all trying to find out, correct? We don't know what the "trio" is thinking of Ginn's future with the team. If there was questions surrounding his future, this would be much easier lol.

Well, I'm not saying we trade every rookie that doesn't have a Pro Bowl year (though Colston and Bowe fit the bill well :wink2:). But I just don't think Ginn can be a guy QB's will throw to and trust like they would a much bigger target.

If Terry Glenn is brought in, we have a log jam of Wr of dubious quality, Wilford will play, Glenn will play, then there is Hagan and Ginn.

If a player can step up at Kick Returns, that would make Ginn's short term value to us, a bit less then it would be otherwise.

Sure, but I just don't get the vibe that Ginn would be an adequate #1. #2 sure but from what I've seen, I just don't see the signs. I saw it in Welker (incredible work effort and finding gaps in the D), Braylon Edwards (perfect size and speed), Boldin (mentality of a QB to find holes in D), Fitz (see Edwards), Bowe (likewise).

That's true but you have to look at the long-term factor with Glenn. The guy is 34, coming off of two knee injuries and may not play more than two years.

I think Bess can step up on the KR's for us if asked to. He may have the best hands on the team.

    I agree with you.

I don't see how it makes sense to trade TG even for a 1st. When you draft a WR you assume a three year development period. In his first year he showed some development (in range with many WRs who have gone on to greatness) and the early reports are that he's improved his route running since (a typical developmental 2nd step). If you thought he was worth the #9 pick originally then he has done nothing to dispel that. It seems to me that the people who would trade him for a first now a simply those that didn't think he was worth the pick when he was taken.

And I don't see any reason to believe that BP/Ireland would fall in that group.

If you want a look at what Ginn's ceiling likely is, compare him to Terry Glenn. Both are 5'11 WR's who flourished on speed in college (both Ohio State ). Essentially gets from 700-1100 yards a game with a few TD's (mostly on the lower end of that scale). But when combined with an #1 WR with size (TO, Keyshawn), he can reach that higher end. I think Ginn will be like that but Wilford is no Keyshawn yet and certainly no TO. I think if we get a guy with similar ability as TO or Braylon Edwards to be Batman to Ginn's Robin, we will be set.

Sure you have guys like Steve Smith, Harrison, and Wayne. Smith is in a category all to himself and he is adept at finding gaps in the D just like Welker. Harrison (in a class of his own as well) and Wayne have Manning, who can make anyone look good. I don't consider Ginn as good as them or ever will be. But a huge majority of the leading WR's have size. You wanna be in the majority or gamble in the minority? With CB's getting speedier, you need size to combat them.

That would also open a real can of worms, if we traded Ginn to say....The Packers for their #1, it is possible that it could be a #23 or something similar, a #9 for a #23 straight up would be a admission that taking Ginn at #9 was a mistake.

I don't think taking Ginn at #9 was a mistake, I do think that we have so many needs that Ginn could be worth trading to try and plug some holes.

The trouble with Ginn is that he is a luxury for us, and he wasn't a Ireland/Parcells/Sparano pick, if we could get value for him, and see now drop off in production at the Wr spot, then who knows?

So we trade him for a 2009 pick who also takes 2-3 years to develop? Makes zero sense.

Eh, I just don't see the comparison between Smith's and Ginn's game. Ginn's shifty as a returner but he hasn't exactly shown it in the passing game in creating separation and running routes. In addition, Smith is not easily jammed while Ginn is. If he is paired with a #1 WR with size, Ginn will do well and his ability to stretch the D with speed will work. Until then, I don't quite trust him to be the dependable #1 threat on the offense who can rack up the reception counts.

We will see if Bess or Foster can really light things up in the preseason, I think Foster could be a real explosive return man, runs 4.3's and is tough as well?

    And he works cheap....

Something is rubbing me wrong about Terry Glenn coming in Aqua, it doesn't logical, why bring in another question mark unless you know something no one else does?

The real problem in trading a top 10 pick from a year ago is the cap hit. Unless you get someone in return, a TRUE #1 receiver, who you could work their contract so that we have room for them this year, it's not even an option.

i see no similarities with Smith and Ginn, smith is an explosive football player, very aggressive, ginn has yet to show both of those traits, i think he will be better but not close to smith, not yet anyway

That is insane. First, we wouldn't know where the pick was going to be. And second, you cannot possibly think that Terry Glenn is going to replace Ginn. Without Ginn, we have nobody at WR, nobody. We have one of the bottom groups of WR in the NFL. There can be no reason for trading Ginn, absolutely none.

You cant blame his lack of production all on him. He had an awful QB situation and really didn't get a lot of time for most of the season. If you could dig up his drop stats from last year, I believe it was only like 3 passes.

He def made the most of his opportunities. He also improved his route running and hands very quickly IMO. Can't wait to see what he can do with more opportunities and a better QB. I'm crossing my fingers on the second part of that last sentence.

Pretty stupid reason to dump him them. It's obvious we're rebuilding and on the right track, next year would be drafting more skill players anyways...

I don't see why Terry Glenn would give ANY reason to send Ginn packing as Glenn needs to stay healthy first. I don't think Glenn will play much for Miami because I think he'll be hampered by injuries.

dude, having Ginn is absolutely beneficial to a below average qb. Troy Smith would have never won a heisman without Ginn. Ginn was so wide open. The qb can throw the ball as hard as he can downfield, and he'll know that he made the right choice, because no one else can get to the ball before it lands except Ginn. When Beck, McCown, or whoever starts, takes the field, he will learn that getting the ball to Ginn is a very good thing. It wont take them long to realize how much easier their job is when Ginn gets the ball.

If we sign Glenn and he is healthy, he will start in September alongside Wilford.

Cronyism? Probably, does Parcell's and by extension Sparano do things any other way?

Why? What has Wilford done to get so far ahead of Ginn? Ginn has far more skills then Wilford IMO. The only advantage I'd give to Wilford is that he's a much bigger target and has obviously been in the league longer.

That was sarcasm. Obviously TO is in extraordinary shape for his age and thats why hes still so productive. Hes really the opposite of Glenn.

trading ginn makes NO sense. Glenn is here for 2 years MAX. Most likely he won't even last till the end of this year without getting hurt.

Trading him because we need to wait to develop him is crap, you need to develop every rookie so trading for a #1 pick makes no sense. Lets trade Merling because he obviously isn't going to be Richard Seymour in his first game.

I dont see how ginn is a "luxury" , we have NO wrs and our most talented receiver is a luxury? And no way is someone going to beat him out for KR/PR duties unless he is playing at receiver so much that they cant afford to tire him out.

AND the cap hit for trading ginn is so high that i doubt Parcells is even considering doing it.

Yup, pretty much the same thing I was saying as well.

Why trade Ginn because we don't have a good QB? It would be loosing a position of need to MAYBE gain a diff one and inevitably getting us nowhere. Theres really no good reason to trade him.
