I know it's only one preseason game, but the HEAT are more worth our time than our 'professional' football team...

    1) Seeing Bosh back like that was the highlight of the day for Miami sports, imo. He looked fantastic. Being able to space him with Whiteside on the block is going to be killer. Bosh was SHARP.

    2) We are going to need McBob real bad when Dragic sits. Our other PGs (Rio, JRich, TJ) don't have the traditional distributor/facilitator skills. McRoberts' ability in that dept will be huge alongside other bench guys. I forgot how fun he is to watch too; such a unique player.

    3) Green might surpass Rio as the most frustrating player on the team.

    4) You can see why Winslow could be in the rotation early on, like Sec said, even though his shot needs work. His maturity and bball IQ really show within a more practiced, organized offense alongside other scorers. He'll pick his spots and let the opportunities come to him in transition or whatever. His ability to move the ball and play/blend within the system will earn him minutes...cause on defense...I mean damn does he flash SERIOUS ability. He should be REAL GOOD on that end.

So if I understand clearly, what you're saying is that Micky Arison needs to buy the Dolphins and let Pat Riley run the team to have two elite Miami teams?

That layup by Wade after the backward between the legs pass by Bosh made my leg tingle. This looks like a fun season ahead.

See you guys in the pre-season game on Monday! Heat look to be exciting this year and I'm hoping the league gets to see an injury free Wade for an entire season this year.

My Pelicans season tix arrived in the mail Saturday. The Heat play a preseason game in New Orleans on Friday, October 23.

I'm not gonna go. I have 2 small kids and gotta pick my spots. Anyone wanna make a weekend in NOLA out of it? The tix are $42 each. Great seats upper deck front row center court.

Heat looked good short handed vs. the Spurs tonight. Offense looked like poop which is to say that they missed a ton of open looks..but hey, they played good enough Defense to beat a very good Spurs team at full strength (with both teams in limited minutes preseason mode). So you gotta take it.

Almost full strength Spurs, Diaw was held out.

Nevertheless, Heat definitely showed both chemistry and grit right through most of the roster. Going to enjoy watching the Heat from time to time this season. Lot of exciting playmakers + great coach + plus good team attitude will mean they do well this year, I think, barring major injury.

The 3 point shooting is a little worrying. Also, if they have to rely on Haslem to play meaningful minutes at all this season, they're in trouble. The bench looked good, though and Bosh looks like he's playing with a ton of confidence. I like the way he's attacking. He crossed over a couple of guys last night. I also think people are worrying a little too much about Winslow. He's not scoring, but he's doing everything else well and isn't forcing up shots like some of the other guys are.

I don;t know how Haslem finds minutes. He is waaaaay at the back of the power rotation. Whiteside, Bosh, McBob, Amare, Bird....then Haslem.

This is from an ESPN Insider article giving player breakdowns for each team. I can't post the entire thing because it's paid content, but this stood out in a BIG way to me:

    YIKES!

Here is the link to Haberstroh's article if you have Insider: http://espn.go.com/nba/preview2015/insider/story/_/id/13432176/miami-heat-player-profiles

EDIT: Also this on Winslow (although I'm not sure I see it):

Odom apparently opened his eyes and was able to talk some last night and this morning. Really hope he fully recovers and uses this as a wake up call to get his life together. I know he's had it rough but you only get one life man.

I agree. Lamar Odom seems like a good person who did a lot of good in his life before he fell off the rails. I hope he pulls through and this cleans him up as well.

I gotta say. I'm glad the Heat didn't sign Marcus Thornton. I don't think I could stomach looking at whatever is going on on the back of his head every other night.

He looked good, but not 100%. He didn't challenge every shot, but he still had a bunch of blocks. He looked a little bit rusty, but he should be a difference maker for Miami once he shakes it off. The numbers were great (aside from his FT shooting which was REALLY bad).

Dragic looked really good. As good as he's looked all preseason. Winslow again played a good floor game, but struggled offensively. He looks like his confidence to score the ball is really low right now. I'm sure it will come, but I hope the Heat find a way to put him in situations to build some confidence there. Deng looked really good. Ennis looked bad once again. He's starting to feel like a lost cause.

Wow at that contract Tristan Thompson got... If hes worth that much , a guy with very limited skills and a backup to Mozgov... Demarcus Cousins going to get Anthony Davis money...

Gonna be hard to give a max contract to Gerald Green after all the money paid to Bosh, Wade, Dragic and Whiteside. But I'm sure they'll get it done.

Agreed. It's crazy that a role player like that is getting 5/82. Gonna be crazy to see what happens with contracts next season now.

Im afraid of Whiteside's market value after Tristans contract... Tristan is a backup to Mozgov... Getting paid 17 million yearly.. Whiteside is going to command a lot of money if he shows that last year wasnt a fluke..

Whiteside's situation will be very interesting but I think even more interesting will be DeMarcus Cousins.... if TT is getting 5/82, what does that make a player like Boogie worth?

I haven't been able to watch the games so far but if he keeps up his current play or at least is a consistent contributor, he normally would be making I'd say Shumpert money, no? With the cap raise he might end up pulling in Carroll money. A crazy team may push him up to Wesley Matthews money.

Green reminds me a lot of Jamaal Crawford. He can light it up offensively when he's hot, but when he isn't it can be trouble because he is looking to score every time the ball touches his hands. He also doesn't play much defense, although he has the athleticism so maybe with this franchise that can change.

Knicks waived 5 players including Thanisis Antetokoumpo, who all are likely and expected to report to the D-league. All 5 had partial guarantees in their salary and we're expected to land in the D league.

Ironically, Minnesota is in really good shape the way he left them....

PG Rubio and a player I really like in Tyus Jones
    SG Kevin Martin
    SF Wiggins/Muhammed
    PF Dieng/Pekovic
    C Towns/Payne

Thats a really good young roster....

I fear a slow start for the HEAT. I know it's just preseason, but something in the starting 5 isn't quite right. I think they're still figuring out their ideal pace and spacing...that kind of thing. They haven't played together much, when you get down to it.

I say this now because, long term, I don't think it'll be an issue. Nothing to sweat too much. To start I expect a little more mixing and matching, possibly running McBob with the starters more, etc. But Spo and this veteran core will figure it with a little time. Tough opening schedule doesn't help either.

That team is really loaded. If they can keep them together, that has the makings of a perennial title contender. Aside from the guys you mentioned, they also have Zach LaVine who is a freak athlete with big upside.
