Word is Bengie Molina and Mike Jacobs were pulled tonight and a possible deal is going through with those two players.
NOT OFFICIAL BUT.....Palm Beach Post reporting: The Marlins have reached a tentative agreement to acquire Manny Ramirez from Boston as part of a three-team deal that will send Jeremy Hermida and three Florida prospects to Pittsburgh, an American League source said Wednesday night. http://palmbeach.qwapi.com/site?t=Qz.yCLugn5i.U1T3aEdGYA The Marlins will get Ramirez for Hermida, right-hander Ryan Tucker and two other prospects, with those four players being flipped to Pittsburgh for outfielder Jason Bay and left-hander John Grabow. The Red Sox will send the Marlins enough cash to cover the remainder of Ramirez contract, as well as an unnamed prospect. Wow....I am surprised if this is it!
Gammons is reporting that the deal is far from done. Pittsburg apparently wants more from both teams and Scott Boras hasn't heard anything from the Sox about waiving Manny's no trade clause. He thinks a deal could get done but if it does it will probably be around 4:00pm tomorrow.
yeah, 16hrs in deadline remain. And aside from the Palm Beach Post article I dont think a 2nd source has confirmed. Still wait and see!
Now I'm hearing the Sox are giving a prospect to the Marlins and also the Pirates. This story is getting way out of hand now. Also Gammons said no paperwork has been sent to the MLB offices, so that report is false.
Mike Jacobs Pulled From Lineup http://trades.mlblogs.com/archives/2008/07/jacobs_for_molina.html The early pull raised a few eyebrows, amid the Bengie Molina speculation. It remains speculation for now though. Just heard from Will Carroll that the Marlins' Mike Jacobs was pulled from the lineup this evening. Could just be a defensive substitution though.
Rotoworld.com and mlbtraderumors.com but they're saying its pure speculation right now. I went to check rotoworld for the link but the post is gone now.
jacobs always gets pulled later in the game for cantu at 1st and helms at 3rd.....i wouldn't look to deep into it.....its completley comon
Bingo. It's a defensive substitution. We do it all the time, but I don't expect a lot of the national press to know that; they're too busy watching Yankees games and saying "Manny being Manny" every 30 seconds.
yea....the had a lefty reliever in....i remember vividly hutton talking about helms gettin in there cuz he's a righty.....no big news imo
UPDATE: OF Ken Griffey, Traded to the White Sox for 2B prospect Danny Richar and RP Nick Masset News: Ken Griffey Jr. agreed Thursday to accept a trade to the White Sox, leaving it up to the commissioner's office to approve the deal because money is involved. The Cincinnati Reds outfielder has the right to block any deal, but agreed to move to the White Sox after getting more information about the proposed trade. The person familiar with the talks spoke on condition of anonymity because the teams are not commenting. Griffey is batting .245 with 15 homers and 53 RBI despite playing in one of the most homer-friendly ballparks in Cincinnati. He could play center field for Chicago, with Nick Swisher to first base in place of slumping Paul Konerko.
News: The Marlins acquired LHP Arthur Rhodes from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for RHP Gaby Hernandez on Thursday. According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, the Marlins have acquired lefty reliever Arthur Rhodes for 22 year-old righty Gaby Hernandez. The Fish acquired Hernandez in '05 for Paul Lo Duca. Hernandez is a solid return for Rhodes, even if he struggled in a Triple A stint this year. He spent some time on the DL this year with a left intercostal strain. Rhodes, 38, has a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings this year after missing '07 due to Tommy John surgery.
With his TJ surgery he sure fits in with the Marlins. This will make, what, 5 guys with TJ surgery pitching for the Fish ?
Report: T.B. Rays highest bidder for Bay With the three-way deal between the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins falling through, an MLB.com source says that the Rays are going to acquire right-handed hitting outfielder Jason Bay for Minor League prospects including shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann. The Rays have not confirmed the deal. News: The Rays are going to acquire right-handed hitting outfielder Jason Bay for prospects including shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann, according to MLB.com.
Manny to LA Blue??? Just because that three-way deal between the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates has reportedly died doesn't mean Manny Ramirez can't still switch homes with the deadline still more than an 1/2 hour from expiring. The Boston Globe and SI.com have both reported that the Red Sox are now talking to the Dodgers about Ramirez, where he could be reunited with former teammates Derek Lowe and Nomar Garciaparra. The Red Sox like outfielder Matt Kemp but the Dodgers, according to the SI.com report, would prefer to deal Andre Ethier. Ramirez's 10-5 rights don't seem to be any kind of issue. From SI.com: "Ramirez has approved a trade to go to Florida, Philadelphia, Los Angeles or anywhere else, SI.com has learned." The 23-year-old Kemp is hitting .295 with 12 homers and 57 RBIs. The Dodgers have been very reluctant to include him in any deal in the past. Ethier is 26, and is hitting .271 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs. The 36-year-old Ramirez, having a par year by his standards, is hitting .299 with 20 homers and 68 RBIs. Do stay tuned.
Jason Bay Traded To Rays MLB.com's Bill Chastain with the scoop - the Rays have acquired Jason Bay for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann. The Rays haven't confirmed it yet though, and Rosenthal says the Bucs want to replace Niemann with other prospects. I wonder if Bay would DH for the Rays. Will we see a Jack Wilson trade next, or will that wait until the offseason? Brignac, 22, is hitting .257/.304/.429 in 91 Triple A games. He probably isn't ready yet. Baseball America still expects him to develop into a solid offensive-minded shortstop. Niemann, 25, has a 3.53 ERA in 18 Triple A starts this year. He'll probably go straight into the Pirates' rotation. Baseball America feels he has #2 or #3 starter stuff, but his star has dimmed in recent times.
However, it could be a little more complicated that that. According to another industry source in Pittsburgh, the Rays still are not believed to be offering both Brignac and Niemann. One, it is not known which, is deemed unavailable, along with Wade Davis, David Price and Jeremy Hellickson. A third baseball source also confirmed that no deal sending Bay to Tampa Bay is done as of 15 minutes prior to the deadline. Stand by and lets see what shakes out.
Ibanez staying put....??? Apparently, the Mariners have pulled out of a trade with the Blue Jays that would've sent outfielder Raul Ibanez to Toronto. According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, Seattle had second thoughts about the deal, which reportedly would've been a two-for-one swap, involving only big-league players.
BREAKING VERY HARD ON 790 the ticket. Jason Bay to Tampa Bay is OFF. Deal is dead. Red Sox and Marlins working feverishly to complete Manny deal. DEVELOPING.....
Can play Bay in RF and bench Gabe Gross and rotate Bay through the DH spot with some of the guys they have platooning there now. Crawford/Upton/Bay OF is pretty nice.
Deal is dead dude. No Bay for Tampa bay. ALSO BREAKING HARD... Peter Gammons reports..Manny will stay in Boston. Deal falls apart, marlins hold firm to their original offer...no sweeteners added.
I just saw your other post, thx for the update. Bay to TB would have really helped them make a playoff push, guess I should be glad it didnt happen. Last thing I want to see is other AL teams get stronger
I will be so bummed and dissapointed if all these potential talks end up fizzling out and no bodies change teams. Boooooo.....hot air and over hyped demands.
Deal WAS: Marlins: Jeff Allison, Jeremy Hermida for Boston: Manny Ramirez. Boston asked for an additional prospect, rumor (speculation) is that it was Ryan Tucker..the Marlins said no. Deal was also predicated on all of those players going to Pitt. for Jason Bay in the end.
I might have done that... Hermida seems to be turning it around but I don't think he will be that great of a player. Either way, I'm with them taking or leaving that deal.
