From a basketball standpoint it wouldn't be the end of the world, it's simply the principle of losing 2 all time greats to FA back to back years is hard to swallow for any team in sports from a fan perspective.

Chris Mannix and Brian Windbag both told Lebatard there is no way Wade is leaving the Heat. They both said Wade's camp is leaking BS to get the Heat to raise their offer.

Forget it if you want Hezonja. Guy is gonna go early.

Some people think the Heat has purposely leaked some Kelly Oubre stuff as a head fake and that they really want Stanley Johnson.

I am convinced however that they do like Booker and it's not Draft BS. They devoted two trips to see him and had an interview.

I want Booker. Originally wanted Dekker but eh.. get Booker here... he's still a bit raw but with huge potential.. I don't expect him to be a hall of fame player but with a ceiling of Klay Thompson but possibly is Eric Gordon instead... I'll take that for the future of our 2 guard spot..

Hezonja has as much upside as any player in this draft. No one will see him workout, though, because his season will go past the draft.

I like Booker a lot, but he looks like a really strong possibility for Charlotte.

Hmm, do not believe Wade will bounce out of Miami for a few extra millions

Based that on it would mean Bosh would then be left holding the collective "bag"

Do think Spo did not really shine this season, he fell to earth so to say

Odd thing about the NBA draft..it is largely highly ignorable after the first 3-4 picks, then there is the seminal class like Steph Curry who are picked later on..when the smart NBA types thought his ankle was a problem.

Was a bit right about Rubio as well

Still do think we need a great point guard in Miami, have to wonder as Wade grows a tad older if he is not fit for that role to take some other roles away from his work load

Each class is different and this class is especially deep going to the end of the lottery. There are a lot of really intriguing 2nd tier prospects like Porzingis, Hezonja, and Winslow and a lot of really interesting guys in the 3rd tier with guys like WCS, Johnson, Booker, Dekker, Kaminsky, Turner, and Oubre.

Also, if the Heat re-sign Dragic, they will have their great PG.

hmm, if you say so, what keeps later rd guys out is the NBA game clock

As for the early picks, usually they get minutes, they make a kind of impact, just enough to be back in the lottery the next yr

Is it crazy to think Wade isn't a good fit for the space and pace system the Heat wanna run next season? Even if we get him to opt in, is it even worth it if he's a bad fit and a lock to miss a quarter of the season? I'd want Deng gone too if that's the case.

Eh, I think fit is more important than minutes. They were actually talking about this exact thing on a podcast I listened to the other day. Agents push for their guys to go somewhere where they'll play a lot right away rather than a place where they will fit within the system. Draymond Green is an excellent example of why fit is key. He was supposed to be a tweener that would be an energy guy off the bench at best. He went to a team and a system that fit him perfectly and now he's about to be a max player. There should be ample minutes open for teams in the lottery, though, as well. You look at a team later on in the lotto like Charlotte who has a gaping hole at SG right now. Look no further than the Heat as well. They need shooting and help at the wing. It's doubtful that Beasley and Walker are a big part of the rotation again next year. And if Wade and/or Deng leaves, the need at the wing becomes a lot more desperate and a guy like Stanley Johnson could find his way into the starting lineup potentially.

I think Wade fits in great from a basketball standpoint. The system works great with his skillset. I am not sure he fits in as far as desire to make the team better and go back in the playoffs. I think he's almost there mentally to retire and just wants to cash in. But we arent the Wizards, where they brought Jordan in and went nowhere but were able to sell tickets and merchandise..

If our team right now had Blount, Ricky Davis, Yakouba Diawara as our starters, I'd say sure, give Wade 25 million per season. That talent is worse than anything the Lakers put out last year.

But we have Goran Dragic, Whiteside, Bosh, Deng, McRoberts, And young potential in TJ, Zoran, Ennis and Napier. Plus the 10th pick overall.

We arent going to give that up and tell them all " okay time to find new teams, sorry Goran sign a contract elsewhere, Deng opt out please, Whiteside you may sign with the Lakers" just to pay Wade max. Sorry, And I dont think Wade's threats to find a new team is working, Riley and Elisburg know what they have in the bag and we arent going to give them away just to please a player that is 2 years away from retirement. We are not in the position the Lakers were in when they gave Kobe that contract a year ago. We are in far better conditions.

This seems like one of those classes where a few guys picked after the usual top 2 have a chance to be stars. They all have some warts or question marks, but there's upside there too. I don't really love the top two guys that much either. Unlike most NBA classes this one seems deep rather than top heavy. Obviously many of those will disappoint, but IMO odds are that 5 years from now the best player in this draft will be a guy taken after those top 2.

And I agree about Dragic. There are many good PGs in the league right now. On any given night there's probably 15 guys with the talent to be the best PG on the court against any other PG. I do believe that you almost need to have one of those guys. And I also believe that Dragic is in that group.

Phil should know that in the social media age you have way more uninformed idiots with opinions that make no sense. People who pay attention to things realize Phil walked into a dumpster fire and the others just dont get why they didnt make a deep playoff run.

    It's moot to me.

He's perfect for the system since he is a good ball handler and passer. He is a spectacular fit as a SF int he small ball lineups.

Idk, guys. I just don't see how Wade fits in our plans anymore.

He's a heck of a talent but the trend is to go after younger, healthier players that can space the floor. I'd love for him to opt in but if he's demanding so much that Dragic and Whiteside can't stay, he's totally not worth it IMO.

I'd bet he'd rather play with LJ, win and get paid anyway. Just seems that both sides are better off splitting up.

They can ALL stay even if we gave Wade every penny we have.

The debate is about an additional STAR Free Agent or merely role players in 2016 if we overpay Wade.

LOL this is nuts. His mother is like the female equivalent of Tiger Woods' father. She's been training him since he was like 3 years old. She's been a ball player her whole life. She tied down his hands so that he would learn to do everything with his left hand that he could do with his right, she blindfolded him so that he could dribble by feel without looking, etc. Nuts.

What's interesting about Johnson is how people all say how safe he is as a prospect. They also suggest his upside is limited. That's a really interesting label to give a 19 year old kid. He probably is safe because he has a man's body at 19 at almost 250lbs. I don't know that I agree about the limited upside. He's not an athletic freak but he's a good athlete. He's not an elite shooter, but he's a good one. The biggest knock you hear on him is his inability to convert at the rim. That's obviously a concern, but he's still young and definitely skilled and athletic enough to improve there. I do think guys like Oubre and Turner have more upside, but I don't know if it's as significant as people make it out to be.

Stanley Johnson is a "safe" prospect because off the field and in the gym he's like a crisp hundred dollar bill. Or at least he seems like it. He's had a professional's obsessive work ethic since he was 15 or 16 years old. It helps that his mom basically groomed him to be a basketball star since he was like 3 years old. That didn't seem like it translated into any kind of rebelliousness or entitlement. It seems like it more or less translated into 5:30am wake up calls and 3 practices a day en route to a California state record four consecutive state championships at the highest level of high school basketball and being regarded as perhaps the best high school basketball player in Orange County history.

This game against Michigan is phenomenal by the way:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEKLMn7o1u4

And also I agree with Section126, the first thing that stands out to me about him is his shot. Really consistent feet, zero wasted upper body motion and very quick trigger. Something tells me I'd wish he was in the habit of keeping his shoulders and feet a little more squared during the shot, but I'm not an expert at such things. Seems like a high basketball IQ guy.

Right. And that he's 6'7'' 245lbs and already a standout defender who does a lot of things well. I'd be very happy if he were the pick at 10 and I think he'd fit perfectly into the Heat culture.

His release is a little low at times. I think that's a factor in his streakiness. I like his size and his potential as a wing defender. And obviously you have to love his attitude and work ethic. My biggest beef is with his poor ability to finish at the rim. Johnson, Booker and Oubre are my three choices. I'd be happy with any of them.
