Two words for ya: Roger Clemens. Did that crap religiously. Plenty of others. I have no problem with a player showing emotion as long as its not straight douchebag-ish. A bat flip does not qualify in my opinion.
Baseball purists get my goat when I hear incessant complaining about bat flips, and preening after HRs. Like the jackasses that got bent out of shape at Jose Fernandez's enthusiasm after he hit his first HR as an MLB pitcher.
I am not a purist however when you round the bases and "shoosh" the opposing team? Yeah no go..... Especially down by 6 runs in the game....
Why? Because I disagree? I like emotion. Sports is not a platform for the generic. Competition SHOULD bring out emotion and sense of accomplishment.
Fun with numbers Friday: I find this amazing and by no means expect this to keep going but I can laugh while it exists..... Player 1) .303/.365/.454/.819 23R, 8HR, 23RBI Player 2) .270/.364/.517/.880 30R, 11HR, 27RBI Players 3) .220/.300/.376/.676 15R, 6HR, 19RBI
How does hitting a home run down 6 elicit emotion and a sense of accomplishment to the point when you have to point your finger to your lips and make a point to actually LOOK at the opposing dugout? Especially when your slash is .250/.286/.425. It doesn't, that is fallacy...
None of them are Rizzo, that's for sure. Player 1 is Pedroia? Player 3 is Ortiz? Not sure who Player 2 is.
houston astros are getting rid of the hill in center field. Huge baseball news! i like that hill, i like seeing center fielders trip over it.
The Marlins were yelling at him as he stared at his homerun so he told them to shut it. I really don't have a problem with that and don't care for the Marlins being the fun police. Just like I thought the Atlanta Braves were jackasses for doing the same to Jose Fernandez. Sports are supposed to be fun. They are literally entertainment; fun and games. This over moralizing people do in sports is silly. Let them celebrate when they play what is literally a game.
So a player should run around the bases, head down, and not do anything to try and inspire his team. Got it. Can't agree with anything there.
Carlos Beltran made the best catch in the history of that hill!
i think this one is better this might be the best.
Pat Venditte made his major league debut tonight and it was every bit as awesome as i thought it would be. I was pulling for him when he was in the yanks minor league system, always hoping he'd get called up. Glad the A's are giving him a chance. http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/pat-venditte-makes-major-league-debut-gets-outs-using-1709442520
How long will it take for mclendon and co. to ****ing bench Rodney already. The dude has a leash like he's Mariano ****ing Rivera. Yes I'm mad.
As a Marlins fan that benches clearing crap I just can't support. You're an adult and you get paid to play a game. Either have fun with it and/or do your job, but don't go around making a scene. If you didn't wanna hear it, you shouldn't have let the guy homer.
That damn hill should have been done away with a loooooong time ago. How Minutemaid Park can actually get away with that atrocity is beyond me; kinda bugs me that people just treat it as some sort of novelty. Why not just plant hedges in center field while we're at it? I'm no baseball purist, but that thing is gonna get somebody seriously hurt.
Im shocked it hasnt seriously injured someone. I remember a few years back the Astros hit back to back fly balls at that hill against the Braves and Andruw Jones missed the first play (ended up being a triple plus an overthrow error at third which lead to a run on the same play), and then the next play Bagwell hit it on that hill and Andruw caught it but fell down awkwardly.
It's ridiculous. Didn't they also have a flagpole out there at one point? Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
More good news: The Mets get back 2 of their 13 (we lead the league in something!) players from the DL on Wednesday. D'Arnaud and Dilson Herrera will be back. Who's Dilson Herrera you ask? One of the mets better hitting prospects and one of the 3 AA infielders up with the big team right now because of All the injuries. Dillon Gee is annoyed about being moved to the bullpen. He's pitched to a sub 3 Era most of the season and better then Nurse so understand his point. Can't be more frustrated then Steven Matz whose rocking a sub 2 ERA in AA and has no clear path to the rotation spot he would already have on any other team. Hopefully cheapskates Fred and Jeff Wilpon(zi) allow a trade to add a bat and payroll
Still do. Watched a lot of games played there when the Asstros were in the NL Central. Its a wonky place.
(You need to look at my avatar when you read this) Boik just saw what happens when you argue with me, I ordered the baseball Gods to have the Mets no-hit...... Viola, done..... Anybody else?
Why? http://m.mlb.com/video/v152662783/wshnyy-tanaka-strikes-out-harper-on-a-foul-bunt/?game_pk=414528
Andrew Miller to the DL with "forearm tiredness". He has 49 appearances....girardi couldnt manage a bullpen if he had 10 mariano's out there. Called up Chris Martin, not the guy from coldplay, either and Mason Williams. Im surprised they didnt bring Flores back. Must be auditioning everyone. Im excited about Williams, though. He can play center field like nobodies business.
Yeah rooting for the kid, he is from ironically Pawtucket where the Sox AAA team is...... They also sent Pirela down...
