Minnesota game week 16. Started 7-14 40 yards w a pick. Then went 28-33 400 yards 4 td 0 int. Not bad...
What's even more puzzling is how I made the point that we're always giving as many excuses as we can for Tannehill and the response is to rehash the same excuses I already listed. Tannehill HAS to prove himself in the next couple of seasons. That's why the front office gave us the option to opt out then. I'm just preparing you guys so you're not totally shocked if we do opt out then.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr For those of you that put stock in QBR, Tannehill was ranked at 14 last season. Notice how Romo is number 1. LOL. Definitely NOT the league's top QB. Nevertheless, every QB ahead of Tannehill on this list is the better QB, IMO, but I'd also say Newton is better even though his QBR is lower. QBR doesn't take into account running ability or the team's supporting cast. Edit: I'd also take Stafford over Tannehill. MAYBE Kaepernick too since he's so freaking athletic.
CKap and Newton I'm not sure Ryan isnt already better than as an overall QB...Matt Stafford certainly is, go check out the head to head game they had in Detroit and you saw a gap between the two from an ability standpoint. Ofcourse Stafford is extremely talented so that isn't a slight by any means.
My point is it's not crazy to say Tannehill is a middle of the road, average QB. It's not crazy to rank him at #15 or 16. I provided the link and an assessment so now people can get off my back.
This may be the biggest crock of shat that routinely gets thrown around NFL boards..."out-dueled"...fkn save it...show me 1 play where either QB played against the other. Geno had a career game against a team that had (some of them, particularly on defense) quit for the season and didn't care. Not dogging him, but it is what it is. WADR, it just comes off as stupid. Just like QB rating ONLY reflects what the QB did...that's the 2nd biggest...not far behind. Its not a thing...no matter how many times you or anybody else says it. RT didn't play his best in those 2 games...1 of which was pretty ugly...but Geno Smith had absolutely ZERO to do with it.
And you're perfectly entitled to that opinion...but you can quit with the "holy hell why doesn't everybody agree with me!!!" victimization crap because not everybody sees the same you do. I think he's top 10, but I respect your feeling that he's middle of the road for what it is...just two different views, there's no 100% correct answer. You could try 'til your fingers bled to convince me otherwise, and it wouldn't work...and vice-versa I'm sure. Arguing it back and forth for the 1,000,000th time won't change anything.
Everybody knows QBs don't play against each other. The point is it's EMBARRASSING when a guy like Geno Smith has a perfect passer rating and you don't step your game up. The Jets defense last season wasn't much better than ours last season. Just so you know, there is a symbiotic relationship between the QB and the defense. If the QB can't keep the offense on the field long enough, the defense suffers.
"Not everybody sees the same you do" is an understatement. It seems like most agree with you. I keep hearing this "top 10" rhetoric. What are your QB rankings then? I assure you that any NFL fans on the outside looking in on this forum find it laughable that you believe that. You can take personal shots like the other fans but I really don't care. I enjoy the debates I have. You and other fans seem upset that I have a point.
I'll just say that I'm not going down that road with you "finsfandan" because you've already proven to me that you have no idea what you're talking about. JMHO. Your idea of building a franchise was completely laughable.
I don't get upset about it, like you obviously do...its a simple difference in opinion. And I posted my top 10 last time you asked, earlier today. It's pathetic you have such a negative view of your favorite team and call other fans the laughing stock of the Internet...I work with fans for many teams...they ALL, with the exception of 1 guy (Pats fan) like RT quite a bit. He could reasonably be ranked anywhere between 9 to 16...why your panties are in such a bunch because some choose to be glass-half-full, is your issue.
I wouldn't have major beef with any of that., it's all very reasonable. Some days you feel like a nut, some days you don't. Tanny has the makings of a top 5 soon enough. Especially since Brees, Brady and Manning I are ancient. There are 8 I would definitely take over Tanny next year, Wilson included. I know you have them similar but I have him ahead. I have Ryan and Rivers slightly ahead for 1 year. For the next 10 it's different. it's the devil you know, and the devil you don't. At the end of the day, Tanny takes that next step, or he hits the Jay Cutler wall. Let's hope and pray
He's in the discussion. If he takes the next step and gets into the 97-102 qb rating area, why not. If he regresses then yea.
I have him around 12, so if someone has him at 10 and someone has him at 14? That margin is so small it's really moot, yet will be argued to the high heavens. If you think CKap and Newton are slightly better you're def not crazy, if you think he is better than Stafford (I sure don't) then you aren't crazy either. But if you want to proclaim he is already a better QB than Rivers and Matt Ryan I have no choice but to wonder what the hell you are watching.
I think I've said it a thousand times, Fin-omenal...the problem has been that many have posted over the years that Tannehill is average at best, and advocated going a different route with the QB. Then, to defend their position, they use all sorts of stuff, liked just happened in this thread, a "symbiotic relationship" between QB and defense, underhandedly blaming Tannehill for the bad defense last year. This creates annoyance with many fans, and instead of talking about the QB in rational ways, we end up arguing these ludicrous arguments. As to historic bad, yeah, two seasons ago was historic bad. Last year was only bottom five in the league bad. I don't know if a QB has had top deal with such pathetic oline play for his first three years as Tannehill has. People can't see the forest for the trees.
If there's one thing I got out of these 11 pages (and 26 pages of the other thread) it's that the concept of improvement is something that some people just don't seem to grasp. That's the fast food culture for ya, people want things NOW and can't wait for later... even if it means that the product will be better if you could just wait a little.
So, I'll also point out, the golden boy Russell Wilson had 6 games below the average for rating, dipping as low as a rating in the 40s. And you know what? The TEAM went 5-1 in those games...And five of those six were in the 70s or lower. One game he had an 81.x. But let's keep beating the drum about how the defense and run game aren't as important to winning as the QB play.
Tannehill has already proved himself as a quality starter, the question is can he elevate into the upper tier.
There's the key, the TEAM won those games anyway so all is forgiven. They won the NFCCG in spite of Wilson's Herculean effort to lose the game.
Not sure why you have beef with that. When two pitchers throw a couple gems people say one outpitched the other. Even though in the AL they never faced each other. Geno Smith smoked our *** and if you believe in trends and improvement, he played better the last part of last year and oh by the way, has some good weapons now. You never know.
People need to put things into perspective on these made up lists. He is right up there among them. Pushing him further down this list are 5-6 HoFers (2 of the best EVER). He is absolutely worth his contract he signed which is a major disagreement between Finsfandan and I.
Russell Wilson faced the same or even more pressure two years ago then Ryan did. Of course he's a wizard in the pocket but time to pressure was very similar. Their oline was wrecked with injuries.
One has nothing to do with the other. They are not analogous. The positions and responsibilities are nowhere near similar.
Completely absurd. This is another reason why I discredit your opinion and views on Tannehill. You suffer from "The grass is always greener" syndrome. It skews your whole outlook on him.
The worst analogy maker doesn't get the analogy. Shocking! QBs don't face each other on the field, he has beef with someone saying two QBs dueling each other. Pitchers don't face each other in the AL, people say one outpitched and out dueled the other all of the time. It's a great analogy no shock you can't see it.
Good post. 12 is very fair. I think most have him in the 10-14 range, which is funny considering how much debate there seems to be about it. IMO the diff between 6-15 is very small, mostly based on personal preference, surrounding talent and wins.
Okay, my rankings, backed up by cold hard facts, are completely absurd. I'm not even gonna bother with you.
I noticed McDuffie purposefully cut out part of my post. Here's the full post. Way to be honest and accurate there.
Cold hard facts but yet you're disputing the list yourself!? Yea ok. And I cut and pasted the part that I had beef with. Get lost.....
If you read why I put Stafford and Newton over Tannehill you'd understand. Seems like you just can't stand what I'm saying.
I'm not your typical "homer" so it's not that I can't stand what you're saying. When you have Foles as a better QB than Tannehill either you're exaggerating or have a very poor opinion of Tannehill (which you claim you don't). Stafford better? Sure, whatever. I'm not here to play rank the QBs. My post was very deliberate. I highlighted exactly what I think is wrong with your Tannehill assessment. I'll leave it at that.
Comparing pitchers to quarterbacks is not accurate. A pitcher can throw a perfect game without his defense even having to make a play. The problem in the Jets game was that the Dolphins defense played like dog poo. That is why Geno had a perfect rating. The Jets defense played good, and Tannehill had about an average game.
Finsfan, when you put CKap over Tannehill, it takes credit away from other stuff you're saying. Just because CKap is a freak athlete doesn't mean he's a better QB.
