http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/columns/story?columnist=graham_tim&id=3507860 This is not a bash from me on Miami guys. Just thought that you'd like the read and would have a solid debate on it.
Hey, I'm happy as hell that Vonnie made that comment. That shows me he believes in this team and will give it all. As for the title, I am not surprised that it came from ESPN or a Jets fan lol.
Someone posted awhile pack, "Bill Parcells gave the Dolphins their balls back." ESPN is starting to catch on with that sentiment.
Yeah, let them write all of this they want. We probably deserve it, not only were we 1-15 a year ago, but there is a whole new roster in Miami. Let them all think we are just a sham of an NFL team. IT WILL BE THIER LOSS COME GAMEDAY!!!
I always say, you HAVE to believe your the best, if your job is playing in the NFL or painting a house, havin that mentality makes you work harder to prove it to yourself as well as everyone else.
what, are they supposed to have an apathetic and gloomy outlook on things?? its a great thing that we have players with positive outlooks and attitudes during these times.
Perhaps Vonnie should have said they were rebuilding and were going to struggle to win games this year I mean he is on the Dolphins they shouldn't expect to win any games this season.
I, as do many fans, expect my team to play to win every game. I'm glad our players feel that way, too. Thanks for the link, 124.
I don't understand the title of the thread. It says "Dolphins In Denial?" and Vonnie is making a positive statement.
Nothing really to debate. It means the coaches are doing their jobs as far as motivation goes. Will the phins go to the superbowl? Doubtfull, but that won't make me less of a fan. 1-15 last year means the phins have earned what ever shots we get.
seriously, what do you expect the players to say? and of course the reporter is gonna print it. but its basically frivolous. "The Dolphins sucked last year, and their players foolishly think they will be competitive. They are stubborn and foolish in not agreeing with me that they are rebuilding." What's the point? All that can happen is the reporter ends up eating his words...or is he gonna make a "See I told you so Vonnie", article in January? Players and coaches need confidence and try to win. im cautiously optimistic that we're headed in a better direction, with no delusions of grandeur.
Honestly you seem like a good kid,but from your title "Dolphins in denial" it seems as though you want to bash them. When a team has a bad year you won't hear a player from that team deny that it never happened. You "want" that player to believe there are better things in the future.1-15 is yesterday news and always will be for this team and the fans.
If you go to the NFL home on ESPN.com, at least when I found the article, the title read "Dolphins in Denial?" even though the title of the article says different. Sorry, I should've pointed that one out.
This is why I refuse to read anything that ESPN puts out. Vonnie said "like we're going to the Super Bowl." The word "like" being the key word in which ESPN has so conveniently ignored. I hate ESPN.
I would expect nothing less from any NFL player...why is this too hard for people to understand. The likelihood of us going to the SB is not very feasible, but hey, anything can happen once the season gets underway....Who really thought the G-men were going to be SB champs in September, nonetheless beating the Pats to accomplish it ?? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not predicting us going to the playoffs, much less the SB...but I want every player on the team to think they can get there...
Thanks for the link. I guess its wrong to want to win, and want to believe that you and your teammates can. Its not like holliday came out and said... were winning the superbowl this year. Count on it. Whats wrong with saying he's going to go out there and compete like he's playing for the superbowl. Thats what you have to do in order to play this game week in and week out. So last year was a bad year. The players left on this team arent as dumb as these writers though. They know they were better than their record showed. They know they were the butt of jokes on latenight tv. They know theyre still the laughing stock of the league, still being mentioned with the bucs of old in those ugly orange uni's. You know what? It pisses them off. It motivates them. Especially with a guy like Parcells and Sparano in here now breathing new life and motivation into the entire organization. Its nothing to do with denial. There isnt anything to deny. Everyone is 0 and 0 now. The only thing left to do is work hard, and win. If they believe in the team, the coach, the system, the fact they can win, and most importantly if they believe in each other... They've already started winning.
Mark my words, at the absoulate latest, by 2010 Miami is a playoff contender. At the latest. And I agree with the usual reaction in the thread that its a good thing that players are believing in themselves. Nothing is worse than to have a team full or even a group full, or even one player who doesn't believe in himself or the team. As the NFL's 2008 slogan reads: Believe In Now.
this is a fantastic comment. He did NOT say "the dolphins are going to make the super bowl"- that would be denial and homer-ism. he said they are "playing for the super bowl"- of course they are and should be!! are the washington nationals not playing for the world series? John Daly not playing to win the US open? Geeky teenage boy with no girlfriend and horrible acne not playing to be the halo grandmaster? theres no harm in playing for the win, in fact you're supposed to play for it all. cheers vonnie, i hope the rest of the team shares your sentiment!
Please do not remind me that that bafoon actually coached our team for five years. The worst thing about Herm? He had to hire someone to watch the freakin' clock for him and that man still ****ed things up beyond belief.
He's fun to listen to though... I give him that much. Hard Knocks (HBO show) @ Chiefs practice last year was a blast...
The best part was Ty Law just throwing down his stupid sign he made with freakin' crayons and magic marker as to say "F you Herm, I'm a vet, I'm not holding this ****."
I don't know about anyone else...but I love that attitude from our organization. As a fan I always have the same mindset. If you don't believe in yourselves, who can you believe in? It's happened before...why not us?
Good every one bash use. I am glad that we are like this why rember the past. All the teams that win the superbowl say that was last season wht should we care about the superbowl right now. Well it should be the same for the 1 - 15 season that was the past right now all the teams are as good as one another we are all 0 - 0. So the player should be thinking we are going to the superbowl and last season should not stop them from doing that.
Dolphins reluctant to embrace rebuilding label http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/train...am_tim&id=3507860&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab3pos1
Green Bay was 13-3 with the youngest roster in the league last year. Sure they have Favre, a good run game and WRs too. But, but they were still young!
They had Taylor last year and went 1-15. What's worse then that? 0 wins? I have a hunch they improve on last year's record. Also about rebuilding. Say you really are rebuilding, does that mean everyone just lies down, doesn't care about winning and just looks ahead to the future? You can still win as you rebuild, Holliday and the boys are no different. People make it seem like when you rebuild, you have no shot at anything. The guys who have a say in that, the team, make that difference
Obviously it's a rebuild but that doesn't mean there is any less emphasis on winning... I think you were trying to stir it up a little, why else would you bother posting this?
