They're going to have to make a Hall of Fame above the existing Hall of Fame just for Whiteside.

Finally got a chance to watch Whiteside today, he looked really impressive. After the game Wade put it nice saying that he isn't just big but he "plays big". He doesn't want to stand around the 3pt line or work on his handle, he wants to block shots and two hand dunk on your face, I like big guys that play like that. He's really active, he has a bright future if he keeps working.

Only the second time I got to see Whiteside in a live game rather than youtube highlights. Certainly not disappointing. But it seemed like he was on his way to this type of day against OKC when he got hurt, so I was impressed with that showing too.

Difference maker. Like I said you give him 25 to 30 minutes and if Bosh and Wade are healthy then they can beat anyone in the East.

Gotta stay out of foul trouble though. He has a knack for picking up early fouls. That'll hurt his play time.

Harden has to be tired of carrying the load by himself. Another 37 points tonight (his average over the last 4 games), 8 rebs, and 5 assists. Sure as hell would be nice if our other 'max player' actually played like it. In the offseason, i'd really like to see if we can pluck one of Utah's big men (Favors, Gobert, or Kanter). Why we're at it, getting Dragic back would be really nice too. Harden is the only guy we have who can create. When he goes out for a rest, our 20 point leads are always cut down to 8 point leads....always. No one can handle the damn ball. Oh yeah, nice win.

    That's simply not true.

I think Atlanta is better than the Cavs and potentially the Wiz at their current level of play, but the Cavs have certainly been playing defense since their Western road trip (including the Clippers' game).

Gotta love how Cleveland gave up 2 1st's for Mozgov, but Riles just finding the FA pick-up of the year in Hassanity. Brilliant. This kid is just fun to watch,

And that's the difference between the two organizations.

Not that Mozgov isn't good, but quite frankly, Whiteside is already a better and more complete player.

But when you are on a year to year LeBron James window, with the guillotine constantly hanging over you, you do what you gotta do.

Cavs have been much better recently, now that LeBron is either healthy or just decided he wanted to start playing like LeBron James. Still don't think the Cavs can win a championship as currently constituted. No team relying on JR Smith in such a key role can win a title IMO.

Funny thing with the Cavs, is that they started playing better by playing more like the Heat. LBJ is playing a lot more 4, or at least in the post, which puts Love in a tough spot. He can't play the 5, unlike Bosh. Cleveland actually should consider trading him. Love was overkill for them. Should have just kept Wiggins, and they wouldn't have needed JR Smith and Shumpert.

As for the Heat, the Hassanity/Bosh/Deng/Wade/Chalmers lineup is actually good. Top 4 in the east good.

Unfortunately, our depth sucks, particularly at PG. Cole is pretty much out of the rotation, and Napier is up and down, particularly with his shot. There isn't much behind Deng either. Spo has pretty much stopped playing Ennis and Granger has been bad recently.

We really only have 8 fully functional NBA players, and one of them (Bird) is a 35 year old energy big. Not sure if any of our flotsam is enough to get one of Phoenix's PG's, either Dragic or Thomas is fine with me, but I'd give it a shot

No he isn't. Marion is the only non-big playing even close to regularly on the post, and he has barely even played there.

It's one thing for a perimeter player to get in a zone for a week or two and shoot well.

When teams started paying attention to Lin he got erased.

There aren't many teams that have someone to erase Whiteside.

Rebounding, blocking shots and dunking lobs and put backs aren't really things you just get hot at for a week or two

Lin was unbelievable during that stretch. I'm not trashing Mozgov as a player - honestly, there aren't many bigs in the league with his kind of talent, size, and athleticism so I'm not so sure if Denver made a good deal in trading him. But the thing with Lin and Whiteside is that NYK and MIA each gave up essentially nothing and got excellent play in return. While Lin obviously has not played as well as he did during that NYK stretch, he has been quietly putting together a very solid season in LA this year IMO.

What gets me is that he's supposed to be such a defensive difference-maker and yet I would swear to you the OFFENSE runs a hell of a lot smoother with him in the game. That was the first thing I noticed about him actually, the way the offense is able to run smoothly with him in. The offense seems to make sense when he's in the game. It often doens't make sense to me when he's not.

I think the depth is going to get better as the season goes on. They need to be playing Ennis more, particularly to improve the depth. Shabazz is going to keep improving I would think.

I think Hassan has ignited something in Chris Anderson because he's playing better too.

I imagine Ennis will get back in the rotation at some point, simply out of necessity. There are no other options.

Shabazz is already a good "floor general" PG, which is good, but he's got to start hitting shots. Even yesterday, he was missing layups.

The Heat's style has changed so dramatically this year, it's crazy. They're the slowest paced team in the league after routinely being #1 or #2, and we are playing 2 bigs almost 100% of the time. Sometimes 3 bigs when Shawne Williams gets minutes at the 3

Cavs current starting lineup is outscoring opponents by almost 18 pts per 100 and has a DEFRTG of 95.2. The Big 3 and Mozgov (since JR is a short-term solutoin) have a DEFRTG of 96. So there are some signs of life on defense.

For fun - the Heat's Big 3 plus Whiteside are outscoring opponents by more than 30 pts per 100 possessions and have a DEFRTG of 84 haha.

You can play with the Heat's advanced metrics to convince yourself they should be considered a top three team in the East, I'm sure.

That's just because Hassan Whiteside's averages on a per minute basis have to be off the charts good. As long as that is true, there is always room for some statistical bravado with respect to the Heat's uspide as Whiteside gets more minutes.

But at the same time the bravado may be legitimate. Consider that in the month of January the following are their only losses:

    1. at Houston - I think we can all accept that Houston is a 69% winning team and they're pretty tough at home.
    2. at Portland - Same thing, Portland a 75% winning team at home and 71% winning team in general.
    3. at Golden State - Number one team in the league on their own court, and Wade didn't play. Yeah.
    4. Oklahoma City - Heat were winning 50-49 at half, Whiteside got hurt after only 11 minutes, was already 5 for 5, 2 Reb, 1 BLK
    5. at Charlotte - No Whiteside. Lost in the final minute.

Otherwise they beat the Nets, Clippers, Lakers, Kings, Pacers (without Whiteside) and Bulls. I don't think it's out of line to say that with Whiteside playing normally they should probably be 8-3 in the month of January with the only three losses coming against three of the five best teams in basketball on their own court.

So if this is the team that Miami is with Whiteside playing regular (20 to 30) minutes, an 8-3 type of team that can beat playoff teams (Clippers, Bulls) as well as teams trying to scrape into the playoffs (Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Brooklyn)...that's a pretty good team. That's as good as anyone in the NBA other than arguably the Hawks and Warriors.

The question is, with the NBA being so fluid, with how many teams can you engage in this sort of projection chicanery to convince yourself they're a top 5 team in the NBA? And how realistic are the proposed condition changes that would allow you to think of those teams in that way? I'm sure you can do this with a lot of teams. But in the Heat's case I think having Whiteside on the floor and playing more is a realistic assumption going forward. Is it realistic that he keeps playing this well? Probably not.

Tomorrow night is a huge game.

We're only 2 back of Milwaukee for the 6th seed.

If we beat them, we go into another national tv game on Friday, vs Dallas at home. If we win that, Hassanity will be absolutely in full swing.

You think the networks can see that Cavs-Heat 3/6 match-up coming? Think anybody would be interested in that????

    Come on.

The Miami Heat have played GREAT defense for the last 8 games..and moved from 24th in Def. Eff. to 19th as of today.

The Cavs are still 26th in Def. Eff. as of TODAY. They suck defensively, and have zero shot at winning anything this year. None.

I feel like we need to talk about the East and West like separate leagues. I could see Heat hitting their stride and being hell on the East. I could see almost anyone in the East doing that. But then I look at the West and see San Antonio and Oklahoma City fighting for the last few playoff spots and it's like "Yeah, the East is just gonna have to pretend like the ECF are their championship this year."
