IMO, it's a big jump from "Patriots bending the rules to gain an advantage" to "WWE."

People cheat in the NFL. The biggest single incident of cheating, IMO, is the Broncos' circumvention of the salary cap to win those 2 "Elway rides into the sunset" championships. Hardly anyone talks about it or even mentions it, so the league and the media aren't providing a lot of disincentive for that type of cheating.

The Patriots got hit with a pretty steep penalty for cheating once before, so they don't deserve a lot of benefit of the doubt. Belichick is one of the best coaches in the business, and he doesn't need to do it, IMO.

If it is determined that they cheated in this instance, it is a big deal but it doesn't mean that the games are fixed and the outcomes are all predetermined. It means that a certain organization has a problem that needs to be handled.

    lol.

if it's one ball, i see no issue. the video shows the refs switch it out, shows the head ref squeeze it and toss it back to the umpire and the beating continues.

I agree, if it's one ball.. lets figure out what happened to it. If it deflated due to... natural causes (?? lol) then so be it. If it was tampered with though, and if others were inspected on the sidelines that had similar issues, then some digging needs to be done.

Only point I was trying to make before, it's possible it could have been tampering. Given previous team reputations, that makes it somewhat likely. It's happened before in college. So... it's a big issue. As I said, I sure hope it isn't though.

    Time will tell.

I'm now hungry, and need to leave work to get myself a rack of ribs.

Come on guys. One ball, and it was the Center of the Patriots who tipped them off? So the story went from, the NFL is investigating why this one ball was deflated, to "Patriots being investigated for deflated balls."

I'm not an NFL QB, but does any QB want to throw a deflated ball? It's why the center tipped them off right? He probably didn't feel right handling it.

I'd tend to agree with your sentiment here, but the Patriots have lost the benefit of the doubt when they cheated before.

But until we hear actual allegations they've cheated, we shouldn't get too excited. Makes us look pathetic.

That's fine, no need to rub one off, of the rumor though, which I know you aren't. Just saying. Makes one look desperate. Like that explains their success (and our failure).

We're fans; it's what we do.

Maybe I'm just beaten down as a Dolphins' fan, but Belichick couldn't cheat enough for it to explain Miami's failure.

They aren't accusing them of totally deflating the ball, just reducing the pressure in it a bit to make it easier to grip.

This is funny, but its gotta be true for 99% of people who watch football. I think it is a TOTALLY FAIR to assume that the Pats will cheat if they think they can get away with it.

Whether it is their DBs mugging WRs in their SB wins or taping the Rams' walkthrough or any of their BS. They look for every edge and drive right though it. OF COURSE the Patriots are cheating. That is "The Patriot Way".

Personally I'm not into all that hating division rivals stuff. I could really care less if the Patriots win or lose.

But what the Patriots have done is just flat out bad for the sport. They have destroyed the integrity of league. It sucks that when we discuss the history of the league, we have to consider that one of the teams which has won the most in this generation has been caught cheating.

New England went to the line. The ball was in play. The center picked up the ball and threw it to the ref. The ref pointed toward the back and New England huddled. The ref threw the ball to the ball boy and swapped out the ball. The video is available to watch. I watched it a dozen times. After the center said something to the ref, you. An see the ref moving toward the sideline squeezing the ball.

Why would New Englands center have the ball swapped if they were cheating?

Why is anybody giving NE the benefit of the doubt? I know the old saying is "innocent until proven guilty" but for NE its usually/obviously "guilty until proven guilty".... They dont get the luxury of having the benefit of the doubt anymore.

Been caught, it seems twice, and they've been accused multiple times.

If it walks like a duck etc...

The Patriots are scum. It irritates the crap out of me that they are able to get away with these things.

On that note, anyone notice Goodell in the stands wearing Patriot garb during the Pats-Ravens game? Conflict of interest much?

    ****ing WWE league.

    ****ing WWE commissioner.

The course of action with any consequence would be to suspend Belichick for the game. Of course, Gooddell is a complete ***** when it comes to any mildly difficult decisions that carry any actual weight.

What's next, are they gonna allow Pats defenders to use billy clubs to tackle opponents?

The "integrity of the game". Haha.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Boston Mob were working behind the scenes at Patriots games at Gillette.

If they are found to have cheated in this way then the only real course is to disqualify them. Seriously. With something like this it's impossible to know how much of an impact it might have had, however, if unfair play is determined, then, the very fact that this move was made automatically proves that it could have had game-changing significance (otherwise there would be no point in doing it). Therefore, the only course is to disqualify the team who did not compete according to the rules. It's sort of a standard principle in competitive sporting events.

It would also have the knock-on effect of discouraging such actions in the future.

That's right - one ball given to the referee by the center of the NE Patriots

I can't believe this is what it turned into here. Now its multiple balls and once a cheater, always a cheater

The more I think about this the more I think the deflating is an issue of great impact. Football is all about momentum and imagine being up 14 to 0 and how 'deflating' that must have been to Indy. Even if the edge was just a little edge, it is still an edge that can snowball into what happened.

I also think that if they are getting away with that, what else are they up to and how much has it helped them. If they have the mentality that they can get away with as much as they can, they why stop. Why not push it as far as they can go to get that edge.

I think that people want "reasons" why NE is so dominant, other than they are an awesome team. If you believe that the Patriots were intentionally deflating the balls, then you also have to believe that it was a brilliant designed cover-up to have their own center expose the cheating.

Again, I've seen nowhere that says the center brougt it up to the officials. From the video shown before a few pages back, the center is ready to snap the ball, before the officials run in to take it. At no point do we see the center take the ball to an official as in something's not right with it. Unless I'm still missing something here.

Got ya. Thing's are finicky here at work with videos and such. I got the first one to load and play before it froze up on me. It looks to me like it was as you described too. Unless there's something more.

I still think wilfork sat on it. Or tried to bite it and eat it. I'm sticking with that new cheating theory. Lets pass it off as the new fact and get some people all fired up.

I swear some of you are closeted Patriots fans. The way you rise up to defend Tom Brady anytime one of us cracks a joke about him. Or when you defend the Patriots for cheating.

If only we had a commissioner that cared about the integrity of the game. Bill Belichick would probably have been banned from the game for the evidence contained on those conveniently destroyed video tapes. He would be thought more poorly of than Pete Rose. But no, we have Roger Goodell and the Patriots are celebrated and Belichick and Brady are regarded as "Best of all Time."

I've said it once, and I'll say it again - I hope I live long enough to see all the evidence come out about every filthy thing this team has been up to under Belichick's regime so we can see their "dynasty" be just a dark dirty **** smear in the league's history books.
