The situation with Wallace is not just about him and his attitude. According to this article, it seems there was yet another heated exchange and the players are frustrated with the coaches. This is not going to end well. I predict a 4-12 type season next year as Philbin has completely lost the locker room. Ross is an utter failure. Check the article. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...-second-half-of-jets-loss-20141228-story.html
You just made Geno Smith look like Hercules. You got smacked in the face by a division rival with a terrible record and a coach about to be fired. I would be kind of suspect of anyone who was cheerful after that.
No one is talking about being cheerful. But they didn't lose as a team, they went out yelling at coaches and sitting on the bench and then saying that after the game publically. They have no respect for this coach. The wheels have fallen off. The team has no morale. If you don't see this yet, I feel sorry for you when it all hits you smack in the face after we start next season in some kind of 0-7 type fashion.
When I read the article, it is clear that Wallace thinks he was not treated fairly. Gibson might not understand it, but I do not see any evidence that the coaches have lost the players. This seems like an agenda you brought to the post before reading the article.
I been living in reality, you've been one of the few posters pushing a very clear agenda for a few weeks now.
I dont know about that. I think there's a very big part of this locker room that has long since been lost on this coaching staff. Players have blown up at coaches all year, and there's been stories out there of defensive guys mad at their coaches over game planning. This is not the first time it's been said, even in the media. It's not good. It's likely not going to get better either. It's going to be hard for these guys to put their trust back into the staff that they perceive has let them down time and time again (in their minds).
Exactly. And whether the players "misunderstand" or whatever philbin apologists want to say, is actually irrelevant. What matters is how the players feel. And it seems they have lost belief in this staff. Trust me, I wish we had won and I had heard them all say they can't wait to get back into the off season program and work w the coaches. That would bode better for my fandom. But that is not the case, these guys acted like clowns and said there was frustration and disagreement, as there has been all year. This is bad news.
Several times this year there have been player vs. coaches during games. It's worrisome. Philbin needs to get this under control. If benching Wallace did that, so be it.
Well, given the reactions of Wallace/Gibson in the locker room after the game, benching Wallace did nothing but make it worse.
Im actually loving this. Especially with what ross did last weekend. If your gonna suck, why not do it with fashion.
I really don't think it did though. If these guys were afraid of being gone, the whole Gibson/Wallace show in the locker room wouldnt have happened. The inmates are running the asylum right now. Maybe its just frustration and a few guys speaking out due to high expectations that fizzled out, I dont know, but either way it's an ugly look.
Lmao Ralph. That had me rolling. On a serious note though, I don't think the benching helped, as a poster above said. If this was a respected coach like a BB or Shula or etc, then it would be "wow don't mess w coach!" But I think, just as with the gum wrappers etc, that this team sees that hen philbin "picks his spots" they do not aid in winning. The tram probably sees sitting Wallace as detrimental to their ability to win (based on that article) and see no justification in Philbins action. This isn't college where kids need scholarships a d playing time. This is the NFL where grown men can push to get out or still make great money while giving little effort or listening to the coach
Julius Caesar had hubris as does Philbin. It is not always the supposed subordinate that is going beyond their britches. A leader who does not respect that he gets his power and legitimacy from those he commands, is not a leader, or at the least, an effective leader for very long.
Dolphins are the new Jets. Will be a race to the bottom between the two next season. At least the Jets already went through keeping their coach a season too long.
If it's true that Wallace initiated the idea of not wanting to continue playing, then the coaches really didn't bench him punitively... in fact, it's more like Philbs didn't know how to handle it or get Wallace back into the game and didn't have the force of personality to put his foot down. Imagine a player telling Shula he'd rather not play??? Right... Don woulda let that slide with a pat on the shoulder. I feel like Philbin will gladly try to sweep this under the carpet as a coaches decision rather than admit his WR didn't want to play and he couldn't make him because he was too scared to try to get him to because that would involve actual confrontation. This reeks of cowardice and lack of backbone.
After watching that interview and seeing Wallace with his smug look on his face, I say f*** him. Get rid of him. He does not play hard every play like he thinks. He's an overpaid primadonna WR. What a little b**** to not even be man enough to speak to the reporters.
I don't see a loss of the locker room in the article. Might be, but there's no evidence of it. I do see a Wallace hissy fit of Olympian proportions, and a head coach who is unable to control or motivate a player. My theory is that the reason the players like Philbin is that he's a soft touch; a patsy who runs a loose ship. He's not the fire-breathing, drill sergeant style disciplinarian that Shula was. The lack of cohesiveness and maximum effort, and the busted coverages and penalties, tell me that Shula's style is what this team needs at this time. Philbin is a passive personality who lets the inmates run the asylum, and they enjoy taking it relatively easy. Remember the twelve minute run? That's the kind of guy we thought we had in the Tuna. But he didn't want to coach. He wanted to sit on his fat a** and collect his check, letting his minions Sparano and Ireland, who were both rookies, do the work for him. Just because that fat f*** Parcells defrauded us doesn't mean we don't need the personality and style he had when he wanted to work. Just my opinion.
Ya know, at this point, unless Ross has a change of heart, it doesn't matter what the apologists or the anti-Philbin folks say...Ross made that decision (hopefully, to this point in time) and that's that... But I agree, that article in and of itself doesn't say anything about losing the locker room, simply Wallace's heated opinion after the game yesterday...
Not a fair statement...first, significantly different CBAs. Second different attitude of today's athletes. Third he was only the GM for the last few years of his tenure and that was after the cap was installed...so he may not have cut Wallace after his childish outbreak anyway...
I am one of the so called Ireland apologists. I have to say Wallace hasn't been what I've expected and hoped for, but Ireland still found good talent in the draft and set Hickey up with lots of cap space. See San Diego game. Having said that though, I wouldn't mind cutting his prima donna b**** a** right now. Ross is the franchises cancer, not Ireland. Ireland was far from great but gets absolutely no credit from uninformed people as to the work he did.
I swear to god some of you are just in denial BC it hurts to embrace the reality that we are going down in flames lol. If you don't believe my "narrative" and still want to claim how much players like e philbin, and say "Wallace who? Just cut him! Don't mess w big Joe!" , that's sad for you Check out the articles out today regarding other comments about players not getting how "some decisions" are made in this franchise, or wheeler saying we need a whole new system, etc. And its evident and clear as day - LOCKER ROOM LOST. Sometimes you gotta read between the lines and put this gs together.
Miko Grimes loves the huge paycheck her husband brings home every week. I don't think she cares who the head coach is, as long as the checks keep coming.
I doubt Ireland will ever get another opportunity to be a GM in the NFL again. To me, he was one of worst GM's in the league while he was with the Dolphins. I agree that Ross is the real problem with this organization, but the fact he kept Ireland around after firing Sparano only showed that he didn't know what he was doing as the owner of this team.
you guys are leaving out two key things one is why has Hickey been so silent he should had traded our most troubled players even if it was 3 5 th rd picks and I am not reffering to just Wallace. #2 it was mention on the radio that Dan Marino, Zach Thomas , and other dolphin greats are pissed off at the players something big is about to happen and t likely wont be in a positive way.
Wallace is a poor fit for the offense. When you bring in a guy who's being paid a lot of money and who's under a lot of pressure to produce, he's going to want chances. I don't go yelling at my superiors so I don't condone that but he probably expected more when he came to Miami. I don't really care about emotions on either side: fans, players, etc. What I do know is that Wallace is a poor fit for Bill Lazor's offense and on top of that Ryan Tannehill (who's probably going to be in Miami for a long time) isn't very good at escaping the pocket and delivering the ball deep down the field like old Ben Roethlisberger. I feel sorry for the Dolphins being stuck with Wallace's huge contract. I feel sorry for Wallace having to play in an offense that doesn't utilize him correctly. The worst thing about it is that I don't think Lazor or Philbin or Tannehill want Mike Wallace around, nor do I think that Mike Wallace wants to be around. The ironic thing here is that neither side wants the other, yet the contract situation is binding them.
