Rex Ryan isn't going to come here unless it was for head coach. He will take the Bears job to make his father proud.

And if he does not get a head coaching job he will take a DC job for a real contender, not the pretending team in Miami.

This is just wrong. I have seen no evidence that Joe Philbin is capable of leading this team forward. The only thing we can hope for is a replacement of Coyle at DC. I dont think that Ross has the balls to do it though even though it worked in replacing Sherman last year. Would love to have Rex at DC but there aint a snowballs chance in hell of that happening.

The only positive I can take from this is that Lazor should stay and Hickey gets another year. Unlike most here, I think Hickey did a solid job his first year and want to see what he can do this offseason.

    What freakin disaster.

Even if Philbin gets a 1 year extension, it makes him no more or less likely to stay beyond 2015. Sparano got a 1 year extension after 2010 and did not survive until the end of 2011.

I don't think he will be a coach anywhere next year. He will take a job in television and probably be a big hit. It would not surprise me in the least if he never coaches again and instead follows in the footsteps of Cowher, Gruden, Jimmy Johnson, and John Madden. Coaches who left the coaching ranks and saw that hey could make plenty of money without the headaches and stress which come with being a head coach in the NFL.

It it was reported a few weeks ago that Fox and ESPN both have an interest in hiring Ryan once he is fired as the Jets head coach.

The difference with those 4 is they all won a Super Bowl, so nothing left to prove. I think Rex Ryan is too competitive to give up on coaching without giving it more time to try and reach the pinnacle.

That implies you're very impressed with the job Ireland did building a roster over the past several years. Is that correct?

I like how Ross said in his postgame interview that he's happy with Philbin despite it being "doubtful" they would make the playoffs. Totally unaware that they were already eliminated.

The franchise is just totally screwed as long as he's the owner. Even if they would have fired Joe, Ross would have botched the search like he always does. We likely would have ended up begging the 8th choice to take the job like with Hickey.

Ross could ****can Phibin right now and give Lazor a shot. Hire a OC to really be a QB coach to further T-Hills skills.

It would make sense and be far less disruptive.

Philbin wearing a headset........that has to be a joke.

He is not a bad head coach. He certainly is not a good or great head coach, but "bad head coach" is an exaggeration.

Lazor as a head coach is a bad idea. He needs to grow as a coordinator. He is nowhere near being head coach material.

No, he listened to advice from some people. He decided that another years was the best option for 2015. He definitely cares. You may disagree with his choice, but it is unfair to say he does not care.

I used to think this. That he was a mediocre coach in a sport that mediocrity is not tolerated. But he brings nothing. No specialty. He is at the mercy of his coordinators, and does not influence anything. I think he is more of a team president/manager than coach. I don't think he is a coach at all. And if he is, it's a bad one.

He does every single aspect of his job besides maybe challenges at a poor level.

You are letting a mediocre record fool you into thinking he is merely mediocre instead of downright awful.

You are criticizing him because he did not know they were eliminated. There is plenty of material to quote when criticizing him, but that seems thin to me.

I agree with you. Philbin is not a bad head coach, but as you stated, he isn't a good head coach either. My question as a fan of the Dolphins since 1966 is, why is retaining a coach who isn't good at his job suppose to be acceptable to the fans of the team?

yep. ross is clearly in no hurry to win a superbowl. he just enjoys flying in his private jet, masturbating to all things michigan and the ability to tell his other billionaire friends that he owns an NFL team

I'd bet that Ross decided to keep Philbin before this game was even played. The win gave him cover ton announce it.

Ross is just a cheapass imo. The whole my coach has one year left on his deal is a laughable way to back his coach.

He was the DC of the Ravens when they won their first SB in 2002. So he did reach the pinnacle of the game doing what he does best, coaching the defensive side of the ball.

Whether he will get another chance as a head coach is still unknown. Personally I think he should be given another opportunity and I feel like he is a better head coach than Philbin.

I just think if he doesn't coach next year and he ends up enjoying working in television, he might decide he likes that life better than the life of an NFL head coach. I guess we will see in a few weeks if anyone decides to give him another shot as an NFL head coach next year or not.

I would be surprised if he decided to take a job as a DC of team over a job on television next year. I think he enjoyed the limelight as the HC of the Jets and he will certainly get more attention on one of the network football shows than he would get as the DC of an NFL team. Maybe after a year in TV he would want to get back into coaching, but it wouldn't surprise me if he enjoys working in TV and he decides to give up coaching for good.

I rather have Cameran. Cameran was bad because of the talent Mueller gave him. Hes still an excellent offensive mind credited for Rivers Brees Tomlinson and Gates. he also made Mettenberger look decent in LSU.. philbin is bad even with the amount of talent he has. cameran wishes he had this roster, hell a ton of coordinators wanting to be head coach wish they can coach this team and are probably pissed the job isnt open.

Watching that actually gave me a little bit of hope. At first he didn't really seem committed to what he was saying. Could have been he just didn't want to say anything. Then after he initially said it, his own reaction didn't seem very convincing. The last part though, when he throws out the christmas gift part, that's the part that takes me hope away. Part of me feels like he didn't mean to say it, he just couldnt help himself. Wishful thinking...

Worst Christmas present ever. I think Ross is afraid of another embarrassing search, like his GM search was last year and the HC search that netted us Queasy in the first place.

Marvin Lewis was the DC in 2000 and Rex was the Dline coach. IMO Rex is a competitive lifer who would coach defense in pee wee leagues, so if he receives offers I don't see him sitting out a year.

I said it weeks ago. I didn't trust Ross to fire Philbin even if this team lost every game outright. So I didn't even get involved in the coaching threads.

So not only did he not fire him...........he's got lame duck status meaning we can't change coaches at any significant level because no one will come with Philbin on the final year of his contract. It will also affect free agency.

WHY ARE WE DEBATING IF PHILBIN IS A DECENT COACH?!?!?!?!??!

You guys act like this team is fresh off of a 0-16 year, and we have no qb, no nothing and Philbin is our savior or something.

    ITS SIMPLE

LAST YEAR - 2 games to go against beatable teams - we only need 1 to make the playoffs - we come in and STINK IT UP BAD! no playoffs.

THIS YEAR - Going into Ravens game we have a chance, we gotta beat Balt at home or NE on the road. WE GET DESTROYED IN BOTH GAMES AND LOOK HORRIBlE. THEN WE COmE HOME AND BARELY BEAT THE DAMN VIKINGS!!!!!! BARELY BEAT THEM! You'd think it was a divisional playoff out there today or something it was so crazy. BUT IT WAS TOO LATE.

This team NEVER EVER competes when games matter. TOP IT OFF - COYLE HAS BEEN HORRIBLE AS THIS DEFENSE HAS KILLED US ALL YEAR LONG. FAILBIN is now bringing COYLE back , just as he wanted to stick with sherman BC FAILBIN FRIGGEN SUCKS!!!!!!!!

The main reason we look better and like progress is being made this year is b/c we have an OC who got something out of a QB and a WR, and a GM who brought in some good young kids. But PHILBIN WOULD HAVE NEVER BROUGHT IN OUR OC BC FAILBIN WANTED TO KEEP SHERMAN!!!!!!

OUR BEST GAME THIS YEAR WAS AGAINST SD, WHEN FAILBIN WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE TEAM ALL WEEK PREPARING. FAILBIN IS F+ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE!!

HE STAYED WITH THAT TURNSTILE THOMAS FOR SEVERAL GAMES WHEN WE COULD HAVE GONE TO SERVICABLE FOX. HE SUCKS ALL AROUND.

We won 8 games DESPITE HIM.

ROSS IS A MORON, and we go like 3-13 next year. Just like we were 0-8 with sparano and jets were horrible with rex this year. This lame duck coach thing NEVER works.
