How much more time do we give Tannehill to prove he's got "it"?

I pointed out the same thing yesterday.

Miami has some weird fans, that's all I'm going to say. :)

The majority of Jets fans I talk to in N.Y. love Tannehill. They think some Dolphins fans are out of there minds when they complain about Tanny.

Yep, I tell you, there would be no shortage of teams trying to sign Tannehill if we were to get rid of him. I think most fans of football can see that many of our problems stay with the oline and end with poor receiver play.

house full of Pats fans and all say the same. I love that other teams fans can see that he's not the problem, but Miami fans want him out. in a sick way, I hope those get their wish so they can blame the next QB too.

right now the oline is the biggest issue(outside of coaching) facing the dolphins. the patriots faced it earlier this year when brady was constantly under pressure and throwing for 150 yards a game. i dont care what qb you have, if a 3 man "rush" gets constant pressure you are going to suck end of story. you could have aaron rodgers back there and you think he is all of a sudden going to look like aaron rodgers when 8 are dropped in coverage and 3 men are push around your 5 man line?

One to two years. Not super elite, but a Tony Romo/Big Ben ceiling and a floor slightly higher than Mark Sanchez.

Tannehill has it, it's just a matter of when they want to catch his passes and when our defense wants to actually play defense.

Honestly, I would trade Wake, see what you can get. Guy is awesome, but he is not a leader. This defense lacks an identity. And I blame that on Wake being too silent of a leader. Today for example....and other big games. I know he is held more than most but at the same time that also sounds like a scapegoat right?

A big issue I have is this. Philbin went through a damn hard time, and my prayers are for him and his family always!! A loss like that will linger forever. My issue is I think Ross fell for the sympathy/situation and with all that had happened getting the best coach got muddied from a "PR" standpoint if you know what I'm saying.

    But that's only my opinion.

Exactly how I feel about the Wallace haters....adjusting to another underthrown ball on the first play, and going up and getting a ball Ryan gave him a chance at.

    Mike Wallace balled.

wallace isn't a bad player hes just way over payed and better off as an elite 2 imo. Honestly the trash that's somehow stuck around this team for so long is daniel thomas, hartline, and jimmy wilson. All three of these clowns should of been sent packing years ago.

It's just how the nfl has changed. Pass rushers aren't leaders. They are too easily nullified by the nature of the game now. (They'd rather the qb be able to throw it, not get sacked, so they let teams hold) mario williams dissappears, wake, von miller, etc etc. These guys all have great games here and there but they dissappear too.

Wallace has had a pretty good season. He's had his share of brain farts, but he's playing with a lot of heart and has been making plays all year.

In football terms we are far past whether or not Tannehill is a player. I think he's firmly entrenched as a 11-12 QB in the league with a ceiling in the top 5.

One thing to consider is that Manning and Brady are excelling at an age when Elway and Marino were on the way out. At some point in time, the likes of these two, Ben, Brees, Rivers and Romo will be on the way out while the college ranks do not appear littered with QBs that will pass Tannehill.

He'll inch up higher on the list via attrition alone.

Great QBs make that catch. They also escape the immediate rush and can hold their blocks on field goal attempts.

Wallace is not the problem. This trams problem isn't one thing, its a plethera of issues that leads to coaching being the common denominator.

I didn't see the first play, but on the second play, I thought he made it more difficult than it needed to be, by not timing his jump correctly. I was watching the game with a Patriots fan, and that was his impression of the play also. He was like, "Why did Wallace jump so early? If he had jumped a little later, he could have put two hands on the ball."

Even if he is only a ceiling top 11/12 qb, sign him!! We havent had a guy sniff the top 20 since one year with chad and thats one season in the last 15 years. Everyone talks about accepting mediocracy, well heres one thing i will accept when it comes to mediocracy and thats the qb position. I cant take another 5 or so years of rebuilding looking for a top 5 qb only to come up empty.

IMHO, Tanny has no pocket awareness and can't throw an accurate long ball. That has hurt him more than anything. Even the best OL will let people sneak through and the QB has to be able to feel them. He can't. I think we need to keep him and still draft a guy with better upside. Even is we sign him for the additional year, we'll get another year to develop a guy to replace him. I don't think there will be teams to sign him as a starter, but a very good backup.

This, in my opinion, is ignorant and mostly uninformed. It was on display for all to see yesterday. There have been numerous threads detailing the struggles that Tannehill has throwing deep to one receiver, Wallace, and how his numbers deep to receivers not named Wallace are well within the norm. Yesterday we saw why we don't go deep...Tannehill gets smashed after every throw, and his receivers consistently drop gimmies. Tannehill should have at at least two more TDs yesterday, probably three if Hartline catches that one. If Tannehill had 400 yards, 4 tds, and one pick (taking away the BS one where Browner didn't get called for PI), would you guys still be on here crying about how Tannehill can't throw the deep ball? Probably, since I get the feeling that many of the guys saying these things don't really care what the stats say about Tannehill's deep ball.

His deep ball is fine. He needs an oline that can block, and receivers that can catch.

When I started this thread I was asking a question in hopes of viewing intelligent discussion about Tanney's current status and future, had no intention of starting a series of fights without thought, only vicious vitriol. Should have started this thread in Club. Sorry people, what was I thinking?

The best chance of developing a winning football team is to give him a contract extension and build the team around him. Anyone without an agenda should see growth each year from Tannehill. This team has enough needs to fill over the next two offseason periods. Extending Tannehill allows the GM to build the team around him.

You know, I think you might be right. Wake does get held alot but he used to overcome that. Now Jason Taylor..that was the energizer bunny who was a leader that played with a fire & passion that pumped everyone up.I thought Jason had shown wake how to play with those qualities and either Wake forgot, or father time is catching up. I hope he finds the Kracken again.

People saying it is the team and not Tannehill need to open their eyes. It is both. Andrew Luck, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, the great QBs' in this league have taken worse teams around them to better records. Tannehill is not special and will never be an elite QB and the team is deficient in talent yet again somehow. It is both. I would see if whoever gets the top pick would be willing to trade it for Tannehill come draft time. Not only do you save money in the near future because you won't need to sign Tanny to an extension, but you will probably get another QB who is better than Tannehill in the long term.

Tannehill to the Bucs for the first pick? Do it in a second.

I really think Tanny will be fine. He showed me alot with his deep ball today while he had protection. Now I see why he is reluctant to throw it...we need deep threats who can catch..Iam sick of all the drops. Wallace played better today I thought too.One handedcatch was awesome. Get him an OL and 2 big receivers like Devante Parker and Breshard Perriman and I think our deep ball becomes prominent. Also draft a developmental Qb in case needed..I think Rakeem Cato would be the ideal fit for our offense to at first back Tanny up. Also with the right HC I think Ryan might just become Top 10 if not even Top 5. I think Lazor is the right OC for Tanny going forward.

The problem with viewing Tannehill as "not the problem" is that it imbues the person with that perspective with the ability to know the relative contribution to "the problem" made by Tannehill and the factors (and players) surrounding him. Nobody here has that ability. It could be, for example, that some of the players around Tannehill are "the problem" because Tannehill isn't doing a good enough job of elevating their play. Or it could be the other way around. Nobody here, including myself, knows that for sure.

What I do know is that we certainly shouldn't think that relationship is a one-way street. The QB affects the play of those around him. It isn't just the other way around.

Great quarterbacks make everyone around them better, that much is 100% true, not even debatable. However, I think greatness is in the eye of the beholder. I think Phillip Rivers is one of the best QB's i've ever watched, but most would mention Manning or Rodgers before Rivers which is understandable. Point i'm trying to make here is Ryan Tannehill will never be Aaron Rodgers but he can be as good as Rivers, Flacco, Matt Ryan and i'm not one to usually bet against those guys on Sunday. Tannehill will be in that class by the time he peaks in my opinion.

We need to open our eyes? To see what, exactly? Andrew Luck hasn't taken a worse team to a better record. Neither has Peyton Manning. Neither has Tom Brady. Give it a rest. Not to mention, if a team was willing to give us a 1st round pick, what would that tell you about Tannehill? It would tell me that you anti-Tannehill people are completely and totally wrong about him. For the record, I think that there are a bunch of teams who would love to have Tannehill on their team.

While I don't consider myself a "Tannehill basher," I have to say that if one game can destroy a negative perception of Tannehill, then by definition one game can also destroy a positive one. Do we really think either negative or positive perceptions of Tannehill should be "destroyed" on the basis of a mere one game? Are they really that tenuous?

Just stop, Shou, just stop. It's the same tired argument that you made months/years ago. The QB is the only one who is responsible for other people's play. No one else on the team helps the QBs play. Receivers don't have to actually, you know, catch balls to help the QBs play. The oline doesn't have to, I don't know, block, to help the QBs play.

Please don't give me the 2% sack rate differential either, unless you're prepared to explain how a 2% difference in anything is actually statistically significant.

You should be smart enough to realize that we aren't basing anything on one game. You would, however, like to make it seem like we are basing this on one game. The problem is, that the problems on display yesterday have been on display for 3 seasons. Conversely, the positive things that Tannehill does have been on display for three years also. You just ignore them.

That certainly is debatable. I don't think great QBs actually make the players around them better; rather, they can help make them more productive and/or can help mask their deficiencies or make them seem less important.

Tanny is currently 7th in the league in passing percentage, 13th in passing yards, has a 2-1 TD to interception ratio, and is 16th in QB rating. His yards per attempt is measly 6.73, which ranks him 30th. We can all agree that needs to be better. But, otherwise he's having a better season than the likes of; Eli, Stafford, Kaepernick, Dalton, Newton and Foles (based on QBR). RGII isn't even on the list, presumably because he doesn't have the minimum number of attempts to qualify. But, as a basis of comparison his QBR is 89.8 (compared to Tanny's 90.8). Now, how do you think the Redskins fans are feeling re; their QB, especially given what they gave up to move up and take him 2nd overall?
