both champions shocked me tonight, showcasing some scary abilities. i had a bit of a feeling irvin would be in trouble, simply because he didnt fire out of the gates like he looks so good doing. he's a tough guy and intimidator, but that relaxed approach killed him. he shouldve came right out with a flying knee. and he just threw that kick too lazily, and got crushed. you see that gash? and fedor is scary, throwing those fast powerful bombs, then finishing the militich product so quickly. wow.

Both are beasts but tonight didn't really surprise me at all. Sylvia has no business even being in the same arena as Fedor, the only reason he was even somewhat successful in the UFC is because of a weak HW class and even then once some big guys came in it was over for him. Silva, as advertised is the best pound for pound fighter out there IMO. He's just nasty. I knew that was coming just not quite that fast. That gash was insane.

He already has 2 more fights scheduled this year.

He needs to fight Couture though.

He's got that division on lockdown, no one else is in his league. Thats probably one of the biggest reasons he moved up to 205 for this fight.

    My recap:

WOW is the best way to put it. I knew Anderson Silva was nasty but that was a diff level! I thought he could knock out Irvin but that was precision followed by brutality, bravo bravo. I would think it would take a little longer but he saw the opening and ended it like the pro he is.

Next, did Johnson not impress anyone else? Because I was def impressed. That dude throws a ton of precise strikes and has some very nice stamina to go with them. Burns wasnt too shabby at all. But obviously that decision was bad and nobody will give it much thought. I can see big fights for Johnson in the near future.

I also feel like I owe a shout out to Rory Markham. That dude took some serious shots, gained composure, and answered swiftly with one of the nastiest headkicks I've ever seen. Big up yourself.

Finally, thank you CB Dolloway. I never liked "JT Money" (are you f ing kidding me) Taylor. I was very happy to see CB stand in there with him, avoid the takedown, and eventually end it with the very underrated Peruvian Necktie. Very happy to see that result.

Overall, I think it was an excellent card. Plenty of action and lots of big shots. My only regret is that I paid 5 bucks to watch Jackson/Griffin a few weeks ago when this free card was around the corner.

BTW: why would anyone feel the need to oust Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg? Granted, I've heard Goldberg say "It is alllll ovvver" about a million times, but that doesn't make him a bad commentator. He's ok and thats plenty for me. As for Rogan, why the hell would u ever want to replace him? The guy knows a ton about ju jitsu and striking and is also a great personality for the sport, in and outside of the cage. You must be nuts to think he's doing a bad job.

Silva's knockout, followed by Markham's knockout were two of the coolest I have ever seen. Loved both of them.

And, CB Dolloway and Jesse Taylor are both weak in my opinion. I think Jiu Jitsu specialists would destroy both 99 out of 100 times.

i agree a lot with your post about the night as a whole. a wonderful free-tv event. but i would love to see rogan and goldberg booted... but specifically for Bas Rutten and Steve Quadros. These guys were part of the reason Pride dominated 5 years ago. Then the idiots broke them up, but this was the best tandem ever in commentating by a country mile. goldberg is bordering on bad, and rogan isn't anything special, he holds his own and does a good job of keeping his personality at bay. but if Bas and Quadros are out there, and could be brought back together again. DO IT.

cb has a definite future in this sport. i dont think you'll ever see him tap like he did in the finals against amir again. that was a blunder. he needs to go to a real camp tho. an forget those clowns in AZ.

Solid show. Vera's performance was a huge dissapointment. I really thought he would have a much better showing. Johnson should have won via DQ. Intentional or not, he poked him in the eye and had been warned about it prior. If you cant use your hand properly then you either shouldn't use it, or shouldn't be fighting. By "palming" as he put it you are putting your opponent in the position to where you could potentially do some serious damage to his eyes. Edger and Hermes fight was good. Great win for Edger. Valesquez is a beast. What a domination. And of course Anderson Silva, like BDH said...WOW. I expected a better match with the sandman. I think it took him longer to get to the ring then it did for him to get TKO'd.

Well, Tim Sylvia is officially done. He'll never be in another main event the rest of his pathetic career.

I REALLY wanted Fedor to lose. It would have been TOO perfect to have a got damn bum like Sylvia do it.

Now I have a new sig for a month. You bastard guys...

I hope his next fight is against Randy Couture. I would LOVE to see Randy beat Fedor's ***.

I never clearly understood the fallout.....we are talking a cash cow for UFC.

    Why would they block it?

Because Randy White is pigheaded. And I dont think Fedor wanted to sign a UFC contract.

Fedor wants to be able to compete in Russian sambo tournaments. UFC requires exclusivity. Therefore he won't sign with UFC.

Hopefully they'll fight before Randy gets too old.
