Does anyone have any still shots of that play they can post please? I was at the game screaming for him to get up on his man. I felt as though I was the only person there who saw Rodgers look to his right (twice) before he threw the ball. How can Finnegan, with all his experience not feel something was up? He should have known better. Anyway, I was hoping to see some gameplay pics to verify if what I saw was correct. Thanks-
There is a great pic of it in one of the other threads...can't remember which one. Finnegan was like 10 yards off.
The Fake spike thread has a gif of the play http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?83489-Fake-Spike I don't think it was so much that he was playing off, but that he got caught flat footed after the catch. Although had he came up to press, Rodger would have likely check out of the play and just spiked the ball.
Thanks for the gif. I know what you're saying but right before that Rodgers looked at him twice. It was a dead give away on what his intentions were. Finnegan was set with his feet and didn't do anything but watch. It was a bad error on his part, imo.
Well, the good news is, as unprepared as the D looked on that play, they were actually less prepared on the following play when Wheeler was covering the outside receiver. So there's that, at least
I don't think him playing off was problematic. What was problematic was a complete lack of situational awareness. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Oh yeah, I agree somewhat. It was a combination of an experienced player (not recognizing) and the D as a whole not being prepared for the play in that situation.
In that situation, the only thing you should be thinking is that a spike is coming up...unless you think there may be a fake spike. I think Finnegan was just being a little lazy as he assumed they were going to spike the ball.
whatever it was it was a fu": up on him and his coaches part, and I'm still pissed off because of it, i have no idea why he thinks playing 11 yards off the los is a good idea, i know you can't give up a td but thats strait up ridiculous.
I'm sorry but the LAST thing you should think is the spike is coming. I never for a split-second believed Rodgers was going to spike that ball.
Well what can you expect from a rookie? You expect that kind of heads up awareness from a vet, but he's only been in the league...........8 freaking years!!!
playing off the receiver was the right thing to do. All he had to do on that play was keep the receiver out of the endzone and in bounds.
Finnegan was awful in the game. Not just for that play but from the first drive to last he sucked. Was he playing with an injury?
Like I mentioned, I was at the game and yelled it was coming. I'm not trying to convince anyone I'm a professional football player.
Everytime a QB signals for the spike I think of the fake spike, but strangely enough, this time it didn't even cross my mind.
It was either going to be a fake spike or a spike. The spike makes the most sense as they could then draw up their final play. By the way, it supposed to be a spike, Green Bay has said as much, but when Rodgers sees the defender 11 yards off, of course he's going to fake it and gun it out there.
