It's comical how Carpenter hit a ridiculous kick to put the Bills a game ahead of us. Really, should we expect anything less than that by now?

The Dolphins had the 19th pick in the 2004 draft. That was the draft Rivers was in and he was the 4th player taken in the draft. So I really don't have any idea why you would be upset with the Dolphins not drafting a player they never had a chance to pick.

Unless you expected them to be able to trade up from the 19th pick to the 4th pick in that draft, which was very unlikely, I don't see any other way they would have been able to draft Rivers.

    Naturally a trade-up.

Edit: I thought he was as can't-miss as Luck was a few years back...but there was no possible way to get Luck, Indy set it up and wouldn't have budged.

When was the last time you saw a team trade the 4th pick for a 19th pick? It just doesn't happen. Also if you remember, the Chargers had already drafted Eli Manning with the first pick and had worked out a trade with the Chargers at four. A requirement of that trade for Manning was that the Giants would select Rivers with the pick.

So basically the Dolphins would have had to trade up to the second or third pick in the 2004 draft to be able to select Rivers. A team with the 19th draft pick just doesn't have enough leverage to move up that high in the draft unless they are willing to give up a couple of extra ones the following two years. No one though at the time Rivers was good enough to command the draft picks the Dolphins would have had to give up in an attempt to move up high enough to draft him.

Rivers has been a productive QB in his time in the NFL, but he has never taken his team to the Super Bowl and he has been only average in the playoff games he has played in. Certainly he is better than any QB's the Dolphins have had since Marino retired, but personally I would have rather seen the Dolphins trade for Drew Brees after the Chargers drafted Rivers.

The Chargers would probably have been happy with the 19th pick in the 2004 draft for Brees and Brees would have been the Dolphins QB for the next decade or more.

I'm an old man and I would take Luck over any QB in the NFL right now. While Rodgers and Manning may still be better at this time, Luck is the QB I would want on my team for the next 10-15 years and I wouldn't think twice about it.

I agree. I don't think the Patriots are the same dominant team they have been during the Belichick years, but I think it is far too early in the season to count them out.

If the Bills had a decent QB, I would make them the favorite to win the division this year. They twice best the Dolphins last year with a backup QB and the Fins were destroyed by the Bills this year with a QB who was just benched for Kyle Orton.

The only position the Dolphins are clearly better than the Bills right now is at the QB position and that certainly isn't because Tannehill is anything more than average. The Bills just don't really have a quality starter at that position. Otherwise the Bills defense is better than the Dolphins and their OL,Wr's,and RB's are probably better than the Dolphins.

Geno Smith is every bit as bad as EJ if not worse. I've never seen a QB run backwards so much.

Geno Smith is probably going to be the reason Ryan isn't going to be the Jets coach after this season. Ryan just has a problem accepting that QB's sometimes just aren't very good. Especially QB's that were drafted by the team he is the head coach of.

During Sanchez's first two years as the starting QB, the Jets defense and running game were strong enough to cover up for Sanchez's deficiencies. As the Jets defense and running game regressed,Sanchez wasn't able to step up and be the QB the Jets needed.

In comes Smith and Ryan has stuck with him, even though he hasn't shown any improvement over his play last year. Ryan barely survived last year as the Jets HC. I just don't see Ryan being the HC of the Jets next year unless things change drastically for the Jets in coming weeks.

I almost wonder whether to root for against the Jets. They stink and will be no threat to our making the playoffs, however they could easily in be line for a top three/five draft pick. On the other hand, the Chargers will be the competition for a wild card spot.

I remember watching the pre draft QB thing, with Geno Smith 1-1. I believe it was with Gruden.

Anyway they drew up a play and asked hin to recreate it.

Well he forgot about the entire terminology, didn't draw up 2 or 3 of the routes and forgot to draw up the primary receiver on the play. Not only that but he sounded as dumb as a doorknob.

After seeing that I couldn't believe any team would think he was going to be good any time soon.

I think it is fairly obvious that the Jets will probably have a high draft pick if they don't start playing a lot better.

As far as the Chargers are concerned, they are a threat in the AFC West to win the division. They did beat the Seahawks and I certainly don't see them as a push over for the Broncos. In fact I think the Chargers and the Broncos will make the playoffs in the AFC.

For the Dolphins to make the playoffs, they probably need to win the AFC East, It is the weakest division in the AFC at this time and I just don't see a second place team in the division winning enough games to qualify for a playoff spot as a wild card.

If there was ever a year for the Jets to finish with a very high pick its this year. There isn't a single QB in this draft that looks elite. A few that MAY be "good" but no franchise guys.
