The longer we remain mediocre the less patience the fans have. Its like all the mediocrity from years passed gets shoveled onto the new guy and the new guys have less and less time, I've already seen plenty of people call for Hickey's head before his team has even played a single meaningful down for crying out loud.

I've always been willing to wait and see what Ross' guys look like before making any kind of judgement on him. So far we know he tried to hire the best HC in football by a country mile. He settled for what I believe was the second best head coach available at the time, and I really believe Philbin has the potential to eventually be considered one of the best coaches in the NFL. Its entirely possible he tried to hire the best coach in the NFL and ended up with the second best coach. And so far so good with Hickey. I am not displeased so far.

You wanted to hear it, then you tell me to go root for someone else. So you want to hear my position, then directly insult me?

Next time, don't ask for opinions you *really* aren't interested in hearing.

Ross' tenure is a litany of how having the right intentions while executing them in a bungling manner produce poor results.

What's more -- you win with your talent, your talent depends on your GM, and we got a GM who those who know him best (Tampa) didn't even consider promoting.

Ross may WANT the best but he consistently repels the best from wanting to work with him. Ross' lack of a backbone led to him having trouble firing Sparano when he should have, then led to him balking at firing Ireland and when he finally 'had' to under pressure from Aponte-Philbin he still tried to keep Jeff under a different (demoted) title (clueless move there Ross) and even said in the presser firing Ireland that he hoped Jeff and him were still friends. How lame is that. I seriously don't think many football guys respect Ross. I personally met an owner who agreed that Ross was clueless. And no, it wasn't an owner of a division rival who'd have reason to hate Ross.

This guy repels competence like scotchguard repels water.

As per Sporting New this week... "[Hickey] got the job after owner Stephen Ross ran through a list of candidates who appeared to have balked at sharing power".

So we had 1st choices, 2nd choices, 3rd choices, 4th choices... but after turning all of them off due to a decision made at the ownership level, we had to settle for a GM no one, not even his own organization, considered GM material. Well, Ross did, I guess.

Does that mean Hickey won't succeed? No. I think this was a decent draft, actually... for what we needed: Oline and RBs. And that's what Hickey was apparently known to scout fairly well. However, will Hickey be able to build a complete roster as attrition wears away Ireland's guys? Ireland sucked at getting OL, so Hickey is filling a hole right now, but what happens when Hickey's own evaluation weaknesses begin to show as roster holes? But let's get back to Ross, because this is not just about Hickey... With Hickey, we may get lucky and the guy no one wanted for GM may still work out.

But it again highlights how Ross directly impacts what ends up on the field on Sundays. And INTENDING to go out and get the best isn't the same as actually being the guy who DOES it.

I'll give Ross a "He Tries Hard" ribbon for Physical Activity day, but he wins no medals from me.

Does Hickey share power? I thought I remember reading he has the exact same power Ireland had, ie final say. If Hickey doesn't share power then the theory that all the other guys turned the position down because of power sharing smells like bs.

He has same power as Ireland did last year.

The hatred people have for Mr. Ross is something I will never, ever understand. OK, he stuck with Ireland a little longer than he should have and he made a mistake with the way he handled the Harbaugh/Sparano situation. Noted.

Other than that, all this man has done is go above and beyond in trying to turn the organization into one of the best in sports. He throws millions and millions of his own money into the team. He buys up tickets so fans in South Florida can watch the games at home. He wants to win. Badly.

Go be a fan of Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder's teams for a year and then come back and tell me how bad Ross is.

Before anyone complains about the "sharing of power" between coach and GM, I want that person to do some research and tell me how many and which teams have to share power. I'm truly tired of this gripe.

The power structure of our team is not only pretty standard its how many of the best teams in the league are set up.

This gripe has to stop. It is beyond ridiculous at this point.

You stated that if Ross was still the owner in 10 years you doubt you'd still be rooting for the team. Since he probably will be, unless those that want him to drop dead get their wish (only after he spends his 400 million to renovate the stadium), why don't you get a head start on it now?

And don't be so sensitive, it wasn't an insult it was a push back to reality. You'll still be and better be a fan of this team your whole life. Settle down Beavis.

    Fair enough.

Today's all about beating the Pats anyways.

Funny thing is, I have a lot of respect for Ross as a fellow FAN. I know he lives and dies with the success of the team will be cheering as loudly as any of us today.
