My guess is Trusnick gets the nod….but Im all for giving McCain a shot. Whoever it is will wear a target. Id send McCain out there an let him EAT
Imagine McCain has a pick, a sack, and holds Gronk to 40 yards and we cut Wheeler outright Monday?! haha...I wish
More like McCain has a sack and a few pressures, and generally keeps the Patriots ground game from getting going.
Exactly. My thing is we already know what we have in Trusnick. Start him and he will be okay in run defense (maybe), wear a target in coverage, and offer nothing as a pass rusher. With McCain, we don't know for sure how he will fair…but he looked damn good in preseason. He will be targeted no doubt…but like I said…let the kid eat…baptism by fire and lets see if we got something here.
Trusnik is a smart player but he's not as explosive, doesn't have the recovery speed for when he makes a false step, and really isn't any good in coverage. I'm sure the Dolphins will be using him but I would rather go with McCain and not because I'm just tossing a young guy a bone, or because I want to "see what the kid's got" or anything like that. I'd have him in because I'm pretty sure I know what I've got and for football reasons I'd like to see that out on the field rather than someone inferior.
Omar Kelly says that Chris McCain has been battling a hip injury that has limited his practice participation the last two days. I hadn't heard that before. Terrible timing. More reason to believe Trusnik will be the guy.
Not really sure myself. I'd guess Jones being out hurts their interior pass-rush to some degree. As an aside, I never noticed this on the team site, but here's a daily injury report from this week: http://www.miamidolphins.com/team/injury-report.html
Channing Crowder @OfficialCrowder · 1m @OmarKelly - McCain is an athlete he should be starting in a year or 2 w/ good coachin. Hell Trusnick might "Wally Pipp" dread this weekend.
That makes no sense at all. Wheeler is already guaranteed his full annual salary, and even if he wasn't merely being on the 53 for week 1 would also guarantee it. No matter how much you hate Wheeler, since he is being paid anyway, he is worth keeping as a backup.
I don't think he's worth keeping as a back-up, but I'm pretty sure he costs more money against the cap if he's released than he does under contract this year. Trusnik is a better player and McCain deserves those back-up snaps.
Wheeler is a good pass rusher. He may not close the deal much, but he gets close and disrupts things. There are situations where he'd still be able to contribute. There is no logical reason to just release him.
Might be able to trade Wheeler to the Cowboys if McCain gets a chance to flash, does, and Wheeler becomes healthy reasonably soon. They're talking about Rolando McCalin as a starter.
Not my money. Just wishful thinking. It's obviously not a smart move. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not at all, rookie 1st rounder Dominique Easley will be ready to go. Kid is an explosive beast on the interior and gets to learn from Bill and Wilfork.
Yippe Kay-Ya MFer? Love McCain, do think Freeney is a competent back up, a bit like Derrick Shelby in that sense
So he's = to the starter? Save it dude...just save it... We get it...you're a Pats fan...we're Dolphin fans...nothing you can say will change that...the whole world didn't jump on your wagon in 2000...just because all of Boston did (after not supporting them for YEARS before). Go back to your board, you're not welcome here.
Now how are we supposed to make up for his solid and consistent contribution in the missed tackles department. We'll be lucky if the Patriots only run for 150 yards.
Wheeler can't even play ST? It's where he needs to be anyway. He has a thumb that's messed up, correct? Why the hell can't he play than?
I just don't get it dude. I wouldn't go to another team's fans' board and troll/flame anybody. It's useless and stupid. I'd never try and convince Pats fans about any Dolphin...IDGAF what they think. They're a fan of their team, I'm a fan of mine...on OUR board. There's a few Pats fans here that are cool...most of the recent douchebags (except 1) however...can take a leap. Edit: Maybe it's partly because I sit next to the biggest bandwagon Pats fan in existence every day at work...and he couldn't even tell you what 1st down is. I saw him be a fan of the Celtics...then the Nets...then the Knicks...and toward the end of the season, the Spurs...all in 1 year. Uses the excuse he's from Boston AND New York so he can choose. I'm sure if the Pats started sucking again and the Giants were good...he'd have NYG **** top to bottom.
I think that the Fins will likely use more nickle that they otherwise would, except in the most likely rushing situations. I feel much better about our depth at corner than I do at linebacker.
Trusnik has had a pretty good preseason. I think he's played better than any other year that he's been here. Unfortunately, he scares me in coverage. As for McCain, he'll get his snaps. He probably won't be getting a majority of them, but he will get his chance. Either way, no Wheeler is a plus.
Financially there is no way to release Wheeler. Thanks Jeff. I would love to see McCain out there but I do have concerns about Brady just eating his lunch since he doesn't have any experience. But as has been said it really doesn't matter who we put there Brady is going to feast. Truth is Brady would probably rather see Wheeler out there anyway since he went at him all the freakin' time last year. So whats the feeling here, Throw him to the wolves and get it over with? Or put Trusnik out there and hope for the best?
You know despite his flaws Wheeler did have a strong preseason rushing the QB, I hope we don't miss that aspect Sunday.
