Broncos PK Matt Prater just got suspended for four games. The league tried to make it a year, but it got reduced to 4 games.
I'm not sure what the kicker in Denver getting suspended for drinking has to do with the Dolphins signing a PK. Are you trying to let us know that Prater might be available to the Dolphins after he serves this four game suspension?
Denver will be in the market for a temporary kicker. They could want a guy that Miami wants. That is what it has to do with Miami. If it is waived kicker of course Miami gets first dibs over Denver. But if it is a street FA the playing field is level.
I would hope that the no experience guy that we signed isn't the end of it. If Sturgis is out for any length of time, then I'd like them to bring in a guy with experience who's proven to be dependable from 45 yards in, even if he doesn't have a lot of power.
And if I'm a kicker with a pick between the two, I'm going to Denver...no question. Unless the long-term looks better in Miami...the gig in Denver's only 4 weeks.
If they sign with Denver, no matter what happens, it is just a 4 week job. Prater is one of the best kickers in the league. With Miami, they could figure that if they do well, it may last for at least the rest of the season.
I believe that if a guy is on the roster for week one, he gets his salary for the remainder of the year whether he's cut or not.
Sounds like Prater got lucky, the league wanted to suspend him for the year. Also sounds like Prater is on strike two, one more and he could be gone for the year.
You're right, but I would think that anyone that we or Denver would be bringing in right now would be a veteran. The team wouldn't really roll with a guy who they just signed who has no experience....right? Rodgers has to be just to get through the early part of the week before we sign the "real" kicker.
That only applies to vested veterans. That would be any player with at least 4 accrued league years, I think.
That would be the only reason to not sign Bironas. If we have him for week 1, we're paying him for the season. Guys like Jake Rogers and John Potter, et al, would be on a week to week basis. Bironas is pretty darned good though. I'm thinking if it were up to me, IR Sturgis and sign Bironas now before someone else gets him.
