    Michael Egnew Got waived today.

    Discuss.

Philbin hated him, I know that for sure. I also know they attempted to trade him, but got no takers.

Damn. I'm surprised. I really thought he'd make it because of his having gotten things turned around as a blocker.

It's interesting they did this so early. Maybe that's as a favor to the player so he can try and catch onto another team.

I cant say I am surprised .He was on my cut list.A real tweener in the true sense of the word.I really though his name was going to come up as one on the bullied list during the bullying scandal.

On the downside I cant have fun with the Eggnog nickname I gave him during xmas time anymore.

    Jeff Ireland ladies and gentlemen.

Passed on Jimmy Graham in the 3rd round.

Took Egnew in the 3rd round a few years later.

    And this man had defenders......

I'm actually kind of wary of the possibility of him doing that for someone else. Something I've learned over the years is those tight ends with great tangibles have a way of turning up like bad pennies.

I would tend to think there's a story behind this. He wasn't particularly far down the depth chart, and it isn't a cutdown.

Yes, and rightfully so. You can literally do that for every single personnel decision maker in the league regardless of quality

Especially when the Dolphins cut them. They add +5 to their player progression in madden when the Dolphins cut them automatically.

Totally see this happening with the Pats, since we are their farm team and all....

Will be interested to see how he does with another team, as it will reveal some things about our coaching staff.

    Facts are facts.

Whatever evaluation method Ireland was using graded Graham as a 4th round pick, Egnew as a 3rd. Obviously those evaluations were wrong.

When you get fired because you fail to pick good players it's only natural to look at the good players you might have had with better evaluation

Quite unfortunate for a 3rd rd draft pick at a position where there was plenty of chances to be had. :/

Just because Egnew was taken in the 3rd and we didn't take Graham in the 3rd doesn't mean Ireland would have graded Egnew ahead of Graham if they were in the same draft class.

I think Ireland leaving the Dolphins was more to do with his inability to get along with Joe Philbin than his ability to pick good players. There are GMs that have proven to be much worse at picking players that have had success in the NFL.

It is a little bit of Irelandish move, cutting an experienced player to keep inexperienced players.

Brett Brackett has close to Egnew's athleticism. Not quite as much, but close.

I'm cheering hard for Gator. I know he can do it.

I've been expecting this for a few years now, just because he's never been a complete-enough player at TE. While some may say that he has great intangibles, it's still hard to make a squad when you're struggling with blocks and you drop a bunch of passes. At the end of the day, those are the two most important "intangibles" and he couldn't deliver them consistently.

On the one hand it makes perfect sense. You're drafted to be an athletic receiving tight end, and you don't look compelling as an athletic receiving tight end. The entire thesis behind your being drafted has been rendered null and void. Doesn't matter that you turned around and became a decent blocker after all.

On the other hand I still have trouble believing the dude presents no value in the passing game with as athletic as he is, as good hands as he has, etc. I mean, you've got to be a ****ing tragic route runner if that's the case, because tight end routes are NOT EXACTLY complicated.

I have a feeling he will find success in another team, I don't think we utilize our tight ends much... Clay is hardly a tight end... a guy that does most of his work on the boundary... So if he succeeds elsewhere... it might sting at first but at the same time, it doesn't seem like that's part of the Philbin system... Philbin/Lazor is all about having as many good receivers as possible and we have 5 very good ones... and Binns looks solid as well..

The complaint I always got about him was that he was less than attentive and was never the hardest worker. He was the anti-Clay. (Who happens to be a Philbin Fav)

Which in my mind means watch him catch on somewhere else and out-career two of the tight ends who make the roster this year in his place.

Then there are guys that argue with you when you introduce things that are foreign to them.

Actually it was more like a 4.52.

Don't ever believe the "official" times at the Combine:

    A) There's nothing official about them. Literally not a single team in the NFL uses them.
    B) The methodology is full of holes rendering the claim that they're free of human imperfections to be bullsh-t.
    C) The "official" times are completely incomparable to all times you've generally heard about from 1980 to 2011.

It's not a fact, it's a method of comparison and if it's that easy to show it's flawed, it's not a very good one.
