I'd laugh if I saw them. Not much reason to be mad, especially if they were unused billboards anyways. It's not like Dan got them for free.
Id have to be wrong once to be wrong again. If youre in denial about the reasoning and meaning behind the billboards, then thats on you. Your hate is apparent and you are the minority with your feelings about it. "Butthurt is butthurt"? More like "Ignorance is Ignorance" and "mad is mad"
Haha I really don't think Cavs fans are angry. I'm sure you can find some vocal minority to prove your point, but I'm here, in the market, and most people think it's a joke. Everyone I've talked to has said more or less the same thing - "After mocking us for being jilted lovers for 4 years Miami fans are doing the same thing."
The funniest part of the entire billboard saga is that the first guy to tweet a picture keeps getting interviewed about it. Like - they are giant advertising billboards. Thousands if not millions of people have seen them. It's like interviewing the first guy to see the sun rise about the weather that day.
No. Nobody. NOBODY is butthurt here. Nobody. This is all in fun/trolling and it draws a very clear distinction between the two fanbases.
See - I must be missing the joke - if no one is butthurt, why do you need billboards begging LeBron to say "thank you." If it's not about that and simply to draw attention to the fact that Cavs fans acted like *******s the first time LeBron left, why would Heat fans even want to draw that comparison? You're three-time champs over the last 10 years - isn't fighting some battle with Cavs fans kind of petty and beneath you? That's where I'm struggling to get the joke. If it's simply an F U to LeBron I get it and it's kind of funny.
correction. We are three-time champions over the last 8 years. Not "begging". "Mocking" is the better word. "trolling" is even better. and if you read and listen to what people from Cleveland are saying, you see the point.
Greg Oden arrested for punching a lady in the face at his mom's house. Supposedly it was his ex-girlfriend. Copped to it, sounds like. He must've read the Ray Rice thread Sec started couple weeks ago
Zaslow played some clips of Cleveland tv stations talking about the billboards and they were interviewing random people on the street. All of them said something to the effect of "Leave LeBron alone, stop being sore losers, get over it" That's the joke. The notion that Cleveland, who acted like Glenn Close in fatal attraction, are now pretending to be the voices of reason and dignity.
That's not really fair. I'm here. In Cleveland. A Cavs fan who is very involved in the Cavs fan community. You're reading the few extreme examples that get passed around and mocked. Telling me what Cavs fans are saying seems weird. Either way - the billboards are great pub for the Le Batard show.
Woj Bomb - Cavs giving up Wiggins, Bennett, and a protected '15 first rounder for Love. Not taking back any bad contracts. Love has committed to re-signing a 5yr deal after opting out next season. Wow.
That's a mistake for Cleveland imo. But yea, whatever. Clev will be better next season, but long-term I think it hurts them.
Cavs still have protected Memphis pick (only get it if pick falls between 5-15 next 2 yrs then unprotected) and the Miami pick (I think lotto protected). The Brendan Haywood contract is a $10mil guaranteed trade chip next offseason they can use to bring in players since they are over the cap. I think they have at least the BAE next year, too.
Shocked Love is committing to resign for long term without knowing what LeBron is going to do, and without giving himself the chance to opt out in 2016 when the max will be a lot higher. Maybe he will have the opt out. Luxury tax coming quick for the Cavs. You guys could be in Nets territory soon. I presume you have to resign Thompson as payback to Rich Paul. You better hope this works.
I think that SI letter from LeBron was a bit of a pre-nup. Hard to believe he'd write that whole thing and then leave a year later. But if Kyrie tears an ACL or continues to regress it could turn south quick. Dan Gilbert used the first LeBron stint to get a casino jammed downtown next door to the arena. Luxury taxes hurt, but keeping that casino busy after Cavs games makes it better. Also - getting Kyrie and Love locked into max deals under the lower cap will help - when the cap rises their deals will look like steals (because deals are based on % of cap at time they are signed.) I'm surprised Love didn't opt-in to the 5th year of his deal and to become a FA in the summer of '16, too. Maybe he still will. He has an injury history and may just want to get through this year healthy before making that decision.
I need a few things cleared up: Are the Cavs "built" or bought"? Is LeBron less of a competitor because he joined up with Kyrie and Love, or is it actually Love who is not a competitor since he technically is joining LeBron? Do superteams still represent everything wrong with the NBA or is that only the case when the superteam is in Miami? Can anyone help me with these questions?
I still hate super teams, even if I'm currently benefiting from one. I think max deals should make up closer to 40-50% of the cap which would make it nearly impossible to assemble stars on one squad.
After reading through last few pages, I don't understand why cant it be both? Why it cant be Miami (or more specifically Lebby, on behave of Miami's Fans) have fun with this and troll Cav fans, and majority Cav fans just brush it off? I've seen butthurt HEAT fans on twitter. There aren't too many, at least that i've seen, but they exist. Just like I've seen Cavs fans upset about boards. However I also believe that majority of Cavs fans don't care, and that's fine. The few that do make enough of a scene for Lebby to get his mission accomplished, especially considering that he has a lot more up his sleeve. Doesn't have to be one extreme or the other.
If you can't see an enormous difference between the two, then there's really no sense in me arguing anymore about it.
How can you commit to signing a deal after opting out? I would guess that would have to be a verbal, non-binding agreement. Kind of like the one Boozer gave them a while back. I'm sure Love will probably re-sign, but if things somehow go sour this year it should shock no one if he opts out and doesn't re-sign. Also, how does this add up cap-wise? Wiggins' and Bennett's deals make up a fraction of Love's. It's certainly a good short-term move for the Cavs and could be a great long-term move as well. They have probably the most talented starting 5 in the East now, and maybe the NBA.
LeBron went to Browns camp today and told Mike Pettine that he is a big Browns fan and will be attending games (per Mary Kay Cabot) Guess he gave up the Cowboys. Will he start wearing Indians gear now instead of the Yankees?
Because Cleveland isn't technically over the cap, they can take back like 150% on the trade. It's confusing, but it just barely works. As for Love, he is crazy to commit now. What if you don't like it there? What if something happens to LeBron? What if the Lakers come calling? Or GSW?
http://www.playerwives.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/kevin-loves-girlfriend-cody-horn/ Here's Kevin Love's girlfriend. She's an actress who lives in LA and her father is chairman of Walt Disney Studios. I'm sure she'll love Cleveland in December....
Will say this..Dan Gilbert DOES NOT get a pass from me and shouldn't from anybody else. It was HE that threw a hissy fit and wrote a letter demanding that David Stern veto the Chris Paul Laker trade. it was HE who held out for weeks and designed the CBA to try to break up "Superteams".
That's the thing. Unless he actually signs an extension, he can't officially commit. Especially if he's going to opt out. Pretty sure that's against the CBA.
Yep. I despise Gilbert. He's a petulant child. If he were not the owner there I would probably root for LeBron to win another two or three rings and go down as the best of all time. I honestly don't want to ever see Gilbert hold a Larry O'Brien trophy though.
