1st, it would be ironic if he went to the Vikings. They First game, is agianst Greenbay on MNF, which was to be tbe game where Packers retired #4. I guess that plan is out the window, got to feel bad for the fans who bought tickets just to see Favre number get retired. I bet someone probably spent more then they would have just to see this event.
2nd, John Madden is hands down the happiest man on the face of the earth right now.

Not really. He can choose where he goes in a trade, and they can't put any restrictions for him to be a FA. If he really wants to play he is going to end up filing a grievance.

He cant choose and force them to trade within the division...they do not have to release him...they can if they are willing to pay him, simply sit him, leave him on the roster but as the backup.

That is far more of a driver seat than Favre is in.

No, they can't. They can either take him back at his contractual salary (he's scheduled to make around 40 million in the next three years) or they can release him. They can't really trade him because no team is going to take him at his current salary and they've made it pretty clear that they don't intend to take him back as their starter. Favre is in the driver seat on that one.

Hasnt he been in the drivers seat for the past few years? Vocalizing what he wants the Front office to do?

Again, yes, they can pay and sit him on the bench.....that is the driver seat before they ever let him go to a rival!

No, they can't. You don't pay a guy 12 million dollars to sit on the bench. And you certainly don't pay a guy 12 million dollars to become a huge lockerroom distraction because that's exactly what would happen if they were indeed to bench him.

Right....you do up to the point you work out the trade you want as an organization, and say, take it of stay right where you are...on the bench.

Name a single situation that worked out like that. In these situations, players always get what they want. In your scenario, Favre would likely say, fine, keep me, pay me 12 millions bucks and see how you like what I'm going to say in each and every microphone from now till January. It would be a PR nightmare - a 12 million dollar PR nightmare - with the organization having to lose way more than Favre. Oh, and good luck telling your owner he's supposed to pay 12 million to a guy you don't intend to play.

I hear you, bro. I just don't see them in the driver seat at all. They will end up releasing him (or working out a trade Favre likes) and say good riddance we're done with that one. It's the easiest and most classy way of doing it. Just get it over with. Play hardball and you spend the next five months answering questions like "didn't a legend like Favre deserve better?" and "do you plan to play Favre" after each and ever Rodgers interception.

Like BK said, he can file a grievance. if he asks to be traded and they refuse to, they will have to release him. They have to grant him his wishes under league policy.

Just give him to Minnesota because thats WHERE he wants to go and he is going to end up there, its just a matter of time. I think it ends in Favre will have to file a grievance, because the Packers will not comply.

False. Clayton of ESPN has reported that the choices have come down to Ravens, Bucs and Dolphins.

Seems to be different that what you suggest:

Packers GM, coach say no to Favre's release

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers' general manager and coach don't plan to grant Brett Favre's request for his release. If he does rejoin the team, they told The Associated Press, it won't be as the starting quarterback.

And Favre is unlikely to accept a backup role, GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged Saturday in their first public comments since the 38-year-old Favre demanded his release this week.

A trade may be the best resolution, but Thompson and McCarthy declined to discuss that possibility. Thompson said he had not received any inquiries from other teams as of Saturday morning.

"We've communicated that to Brett, that we have since moved forward," Thompson said. "At the same time, we've never said that there couldn't be some role that he might play here. But I would understand his point that he would want to play."

When asked whether that role might be as a backup or coach, Thompson said: "not a coach."

Can you explain, I am not familiar. Is it because of the # of years in the league? He can file a grievance that says, I love being paid, but I have to start other wise I feel I am being treated unfairly while I spend their money so please let me be a FA to sign with another team????

No. In this situation, he doesn't want to be part of the organization. He has asked the organization to release him from the team and let him go play elsewhere. If the Packers don't comply then Favre can take it to the league and state that they are barring me from doing my job and basically holding me hostage because I don't want to be here and they aren't letting me go elsewhere.

Basically, all he has to state is that he doesn't want to be there and they aren't letting him go elsewhere.

Lol, the thing is that he hasn't even been reinstated yet. Hes asking them to do things for him and he's not part of the team or the league as of now. He first needs to get back into the league. Once he does that, he is part of the Packers again.

Maybe. Like I said, I'm not sure. That wouldn't make any sense either though, none of the three teams have anything to give the Packers.

I think the problem is that Farve wants to go to the Vikings. Really the Viking and Chicago are probably his two best bets right now, but theres no way the Packers would give him the wish to go to a division rival. Having to play them at home every year and the possibility of seeing him win the division with another team? No team would do this. Farve really kind of did this to himself so I can't feel sorry for him, I would never trade a player like this to a division rival. This would have been like Marino going to play for the Patriots or Jets, no way we would have let that happen.

Do they have no trade clauses, or trade veto powers in NFL contracts?

I don't know to be honest.

I thought that Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriguez were the only professional players that have a no-trade clause?

only thing favre can do if traded is not renegotiate his contract, which will cause many teams to lose interest. 2nd, he could retire again and cause the trade to be revoked

Heck no, several MLB players have this written into their contracts...they have the ability to waive it, but is exists for more then just Arod.

Also, if he does have say in that, it still doesn't mean that they can stop him from going there via trade. The Packers still have to do what's best for them and acquiring the talent or draft picks would be one thing. If they fail to get the compensation in which they are asking for, they wouldn't have to deal him to that team, even if he wanted to go there.

What makes it difficult here is that he wants to go to a specific team and those teams don't have much to give back in return. The Packers could ask for a second rounder but which one of those three teams would give a second rounder for a guy who may play only one more year? The only team I could see doing that is the Buccaneers because they are superior to the other listed teams and they are probably one very good QB away from getting to the SB.

Yeah, well there will be no trade unless he renegotiates. No body will take on $13 million a year over the next three years or at least I think they'd be crazy to do so. The worst thing about this is that he is 38 years old and has been pondering retirement for the last 3(?) off-seasons. If anyone takes him, the compensation will probably be low for the Packers because they don't know if he will continue to play beyond this season. I personally wouldn't give up anything for him unless I know I was a Super Bowl ring away and it was his position that I would have to upgrade to get that.

Lol them and the Buccaneers. The problem is that the Packers wouldn't let him go to them. The only way I could see it happening is that if he files a grievance and wins the case, forcing the Packers to release him.
