I wouldn't bet that. Zach had much more rare instincts. He was never slow to the trigger at Texas Tech.
How much of that was instinctual and how much of that was the insane amount of preparation Zach put in. A lot of times..Zach was there before everyone else..because I actually think he knew the opposing offense better then the actual offensive players did.
He's a full 6'3" in height. That's big for a linebacker. Being 6'3" & 235-240 lbs is not average. Only 17 of the 46 linebackers (not counting Tripp himself) NFLDS graded as draftable in 2014 were 6'3" or better.
Billy Turner was a good long term pick for Miami. The biggest regrets with respect to Turner's selection are going to have more to do with Marcus Martin's being available at that pick. Martin will also be a good long term pick and would've been particularly helpful this year with Pouncey's injury. Prior to the draft I brought up a few times that the Dolphins could look at Martin as a means of maintaining leverage over Pouncey in contract negotiations because ultimately they would know they have Pouncey's replacement on roster if he should leave.
Well, Shelley Smith didn't take one snap at center today. He started off as second team RG and ended up the practice the starting RG. Pretty sure it's over for him at center. Although, not like his replacement has been eating it up with his snap accuracy. Garner struggling today too... Satele should have his bags packed and ready to head to Miami.
Shelley Smith did not work at center today but there were more bad snaps reported on today than I've seen in any other practice session. At some point we may have to acknowledge that some of this is on the quarterbacks and the changes in the offense, as opposed to just guys sucking at snapping. Even Tyler Larsen who started what like 50 games at center had a low snap to Seth Lobato that resulted in a sack. David Arkin had a couple of bad snaps and it sounds like Nate Garner had like four of them.
It is funny how so many have a love/hate relationship with Devlin. I'm certainly more on the love side with him. Another guy that makes preseason games fun to watch in the 2nd half.
Personally tired of Devlin taking a roster spot and never doing anything more... If he can't push Moore out the door by now, he needs to go himself.
Devlin must have been watching this kid:
Wouldn't it be hilarious if Devlin actually pulled that off during practice? And then the writers didn't even notice it. Appropriate.
My favorite and most important quote of camp thus far. I think it's gonna work guys, he's big, he's strong, he is quick relatively speaking, he plays downhill, and has way better coverage skills then people realize, I'm tellin ya, for a mike backer he will be able to do the job. In the passing dept.I think he can play on three downs.. I don't know how he's going to read e play action stuff but if he can handle the trigger part, the recognition part, he's got everything else to be that freakin hunter...
I post this quote from me MNphinfan, because I've been saying it myself since the OTA's and I agree with it. He's out in practice, he's doing ladder drills, workin on kickslide, I think he's way ahead of the schedule that the pundits have been sayin, I would say after the bye at the latest.
Yes and I'm sure some of the shotgun snaps have probably been bobbled even though they were catchable, which could be just quarterback error or could also just be a lack of chemistry because the quarterback doesn't have a feel yet for where this particular center tends to place the ball. The new offense means the quarterbacks are likely thinking about a lot during the snap, stuff they don't quite have an easy handle on yet. That would mean snaps that perhaps a year ago would have been easily handled by the quarterbacks might now be bobbled because they're splitting their concentration too many different ways. Shotgun snaps that aren't directly into the quarterback's sternum happen every game. If it's within reason, it's still up to the quarterback to secure it. But if he's distracted with the installation of plays with which he's relatively unfamiliar, suddenly a snap at the quarterback's groin that fans wouldn't even take note of a year ago because the QB handled it so well...become botched snaps.
From the results I've seen from a Benton coached oline, I must trust this guy, his line is truly amazing to watch in terms of their harmony..he's got to know what he's looking for..
i agree i posted this in another thread some days ago, how injured is he really if he is allowed to talk to the media
I have serious doubts over whether this type of sleuth work has any more value than predicting tomorrow's weather based a good look at the sky today. The medical professionals that are evaluating Pouncey will know what his actual progress is, and they in turn tell the Dolphins staff. And only a week ago or so people on that staff said that the original 3 month prognosis was looking more like 4 months and that he's likely to be out until Week 8 or so.
I didn't see the link... but is that recovery for a normal person? Or recovery for a professional football player that needs to play at the highest level and drive back 300lbs men?
All good but let's face he can hunt all he wants , he needs to make plays and not 6 or 9 yards from the los. We'll see , attitude and effort are a must but production is what matters most.
Soooooo, Zero offensive touchdowns today. I'm trying to stay positive, but this is getting kinda sad.
I didn't say all that. But, when i go check out what Chip Kelly's offense is doing right now and the first thing i see at the top of twitter is... i get a little sad wondering why the hell isn't our offense putting up more than 1 td in each practice.
f they would score more touchdowns then it would be "aaaah our defense is giving up to many scores", i rather have it this way
What are you wondering exactly? 1. Philly's D sucks. Miami's D does not. 2. Bad offensive line 3. Bad snaps from center
Defense is the last of my worries. I would like for the offense to at least become average (23 points per game)....and that is me setting the bar low. Again, we were 6-1 when we scored 23 points last year. Our scoring defense was that good.
