ALL those sticks? That's a hell of a sampler.

I don't like 5 Vegas at all; same with Ghurka, Griffins, Nub, CAO and all the house brands (Cigar.com).

El Mejor and Felipe Gregorios are dyed cigars...not good.

Joya Antaño is far too strong for me, but a lot of muy macho smokers swear by the buzz. That's not what I'm into.

I LOVE all Drew Estates, even the Acids (except the KubaKuba) and their Naturals are exquisite; love the 601 Blue, the Brick House, Carlos Toraño. I LOVE all La Gloria, but especially the Series R/Series N, and the Wavell was my go-to smoke for like 12 years. LOVE La Aurora and La Perla, Padilla, Oliva, My Father, and I've heard great things about the Man-O-Wars and Ave Marias.

If you get a chance to try Tabak Especial by Drew Estates, a coffee-infused cigar, you won't be disappointed. My favorite is La Negra, but they're all excellent.

I wondered why they always offer Gurkas and 5 Vegas for so cheap in package deals. They also offer Man O War and Ave Maria in pretty cheap packages.

Yeah, there are some nice sticks in there for a $3.99 avg. I'll check out your recommendations in a few weeks. I did pick up a Brickhouse based off a review I read recently. Seems like a great value.

You said Rocky's maduros are dyed as well right?

Had a decent first smoke with the Gurka Centurion, but this Warlord I'm trying now is a disaster. It's a massive stick, but the draw is terrible. Packed way too tight. Feel like Jenna Jameson over here.

Aroma and flavor are fine enough, but my worst issue to have is the draw. I've had problems with Dunhill in the past with difficult draws.

The Ave Maria and Man O War were decent smokes. I have one left of each, to determine if they are worth getting again.

I'm meeting an old friend of mine who is into cigars. I want to get him a little gift.

Are those assorted bags a nice idea? Any cigars that are universally loved

The bags are better for your own collection and experimenting with new sticks. There is a lot out there that shows better as a "gift."

I think Ashton makes the best "gift" cigar. Universally loved and recognized. It's always a high end stick too, but not ridiculously expensive. Check cigar dot com and other mentioned sites here. There are assortment packs and samplers packaged very nicely for some brands. But a couple Ashton sticks will work just fine IMO. Their Magnums, Double Magnums and Aged Maduros are very nice.

Yep, can't go wrong with a boxed Ashton sampler. Great caché, and it's actually a good cigar.

Would somebody chime in on their experience with Acid Cigars good or bad?
    Punch or cutters?

Any strong opinions on lighters vs matches?

I'm not a fan of flavored wrappers but there is fine tobacco in the Acids. Well made cigar.

This is all Nabo though, as he knows Drew Estates better than anyone.

I'm not sure about punch or v shape cutters. I've always used traditional cutters. Good question.

And as long as you use butane, you're fine. Never use a zippo or fluid based lighter. Stick matches are always nice if the conditions allow for it.

Acids are quality tobacco rolled by the best, infused properly (Not immersed) and they are some of the best-made cigars out there. Not for everyone, but the Naturals are phenomenal; of the most-infused, the Roam is my favorite. The Jucy Lucy and Blondies are great too. Experimant, find what you like.

Palio cutters for me; guaranteed for life, best cut you can get. Doesn't pinch like the Xikar. Punches are only good for extra-large RG cigars (60RG and above) where it's hard to get a cutter around the stick. CigarsInternational.com has extra-large cutters but they dull easily.

Butane torch lighters are the way to go. Blazer makes several excellent, almost-indestructible lighters. Stick to single-flame, unless you smoke a lot of 60RG+.

This is the best source for accessories; no-questions exchanges, great people:

BTW, the Tabak Especial by Drew Estates is one of the finest smokes, if you like coffee. They are well-infused, and highly enjoyable.

I agree on all counts. Btw, have you ever tried a Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure? I used to love that cigar in the 90's and early 2000's before I stopped smoking them.

Not a fan of Macanudo. Thought they tried to be the light, sophisticated non-Cuban version of Romeo y Julieta but were not in the same class. Overpriced and still a bit harsh stating to me. Slick marketing and branding though.

That reminds me, for a milder smoke, the Romeo y Julieta Churchill I bought in Havana was great. A bit light for my taste, but still fantastic.

Had an Ashton torpedo (again, late 90's lol... **** that's a long time ago) and found it went hot and harsh sooner than I'd expect... especially for the price. I used to try to keep a longer ash on the cigar as it mitigated that harsh, hot draw on some cigars, but the Ashton, by a third of the way down it was burning my tongue (no I didn't have it wrong-way-around). Most other good cigars I'd get at least halfway before noticing that. Great cigars I'd make it 2/3 down the stick before it got harsh... man this sounds so sexual it's bad. lol.

If you're smoking a fantastic cigar, ask for cedar strips to light with. Light the cedar strip w the match, then light the cigar with the cedar strip. If you have that level of palate that you can detect match sulphur on your cigar.

For most people, it's over-doing it to bother with cedarstrips. Just use matches directly. Especially for cigars under $50, imo.

I usually stick to the Ashton Magnums. Never had a bad one. Maybe you were drawing too frequently? I know I sometimes loose track. Just a draw per 45-60 seconds keeps the cigar burning cool and ideal.

Yes; in fact, I had my last Epicure a few months ago.

Ever had any of the L'Hoyos, the ones with the French names? Sublime.

I liked Macs back when they were made in Jamaica.

Was it Hoyo de Dauphin? That sounds familiar, but honestly I can't recall anymore.

That's where they were made when I had them. They were classy, but too mild for me. Where are they made now? Honduras?

Punch Punch were a buddy of mine's fave. I was unimpressed, but at the same time was never disappointed by one. Pretty dependable cigar is what I'd say.

Yep; and du Prince, etc. Amazing complexity, small RGs.

The DR. It's still a dependable, mild stick; great for beginners because despite being mild, it's an excellently-made cigar with fine tobaccos.

Yeah, i was a beginner when I smoked a couple Macs. Loved the glass tube.

Don't think I ever had Hoyo du Prince but I remember wanting them.

Hey, did you ever notice that when your cigars got a very very fine blueish-green dust on them (mold, I believe) they often tasted fantastic?

I only found that at some stores, and assume it was improper humidity in the storage conditions as I never had that happen at home... but somehow, even if it was 'bad' it tasted 'good' to me. It was as if the mold was metabolizing something in the leaves that took that bitter edge off the tobacco while leaving it's fullness of flavor.

One more thing, for awhile I love torpedos, esp. high RG ones (60+). Problem was, I could never finish the damn things so it became a huge waste of money.

Went through a maduro phase too.

Oh, an Upmann was another nice, reliable one, though I found the rolling a bit inconsistent (they'd burn a bit unevenly on me).

Kind of amazed Cohiba hasn't come up yet. Though, to be honest, I never really smoked them myself, they have a big rep.

White mold is fine, just brush it off and smoke up. But if you smoke the bluish mold, you're taking your life in your hands. NOT hyperbolizing. That stuff can kill you.

Cohibas are great; I still have half a box of Siglo Is from '06. Fantastic smoke.

Most of them are difficult to afford, though.
