I am just throwing this out there, now that ESPN NFL Live has reported that Favre has submitted a "play me, or release me" letter to the Packers, do you think it might be worth it bringing him in for a couple years, where he could maybe mentor Henne and Beck?
No, no, a thousand times NO! He's temporary, would set us back years, we need to develop our OWN players at QB, we aren't going to win many more games with him anyway, we will be set back 2-3 years in our QB development though. Bad terrible yucky horrible idea. I wish people would get over it, not coming here, no matter what. Now, wanna know how I REALLY feel?
No, no... and uh.. NO. We've spent 2nd round draft picks in the last two years on QB's, its time to see if theyre the answer instead of trading to get another player past his prime who only has a year left probably. Its not worth it at all. We need to make due with what we've got, grow as a team, learn to play together and start winning games. Another temporary fix isn't what we need. We need to find a long term solution.
i'm with PR. we need to develop our own 2 young QBs. Brett would just delay their development/stunt their playing time, and give US the retirement issue every year.
No, we are rebuilding. If we were a team like the Vikings, ravens or the Packers for that matter that are close with no proven QB, then hell yes!
I really wish Favre would finalize his papers with the NFL so all this nonsense would stop. I dont want that stat hound in a Dolphin uniform. lets stick with the guys we have and see what happens.
As long as they release Josh McCown. If the front office can swap out McCown for Brett Farve without giving up a draft pick, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. To be honest, I'm 50/50 on the whole Favre to Miami thing. If that did happen, though... I wouldn't be shocked if Beck was traded to another team before the season began, clearing the way for Ireland's boy Henne to learn, unimpeded, behind Brett Favre... and I wouldn't be pleased with that scenario one bit. We'd be rooting for the Miami 'Cowpackers'.
The only way I would want to see Favre as a Dolphin would be as a coach... but there really isn't a need there either right now.
I only voted yes if we bring him in on a 1-year at a time contract far less than what he's worth as a back-up after our other QBs get mauled.
I would of voted but I couldnt find a button for not a @#&^#*! chance in hell. Hell Id rather call up Daunte.
In an age of Free Agency I dont see why people still think this way. Back when its was only Plan B I'd see your point but ever since then...who cares when guys change teams like changing a suit.
The attendance would be unreal if he signed with Miami...but I am not sure he would get us to the playoffs? The Packer fans must be hating life,,,,this would be like Dolphin fans having to see Dan Marino in a Minnesota Vikings uniform. I'd want to throw up.
I see no benefit to bringing him in. We arent going to really compete, might as well stick with the young guys we have and let them grow into the role. Not to mention Favre is a drama queen, and I really dont want to spend the next 3 offseasons wondering if Favre is going to come back.
no. we already have on retired player on our team. thats just enough for now. I'd like to read the letter that Favre sent to the GB FO. Dear Packers, I didn't like hunting and fishing quite as much as I'd hoped. I realized that I'm more addicted to the media and my own godliness than I ever was to pain killers. If you grant my release, I promise to retire next year. That is, unless I smell the tail-end of another record. You know I can't resist those darn things. Also, could you check the lost and found? I think I lost my dignity and self respect, thought I may have left them there somewhere. Thanks, Brett
if you went to the Packers game in Miami during the 06 season, you would regret ever saying that. It's bad enough that they migrate here once every 8 years. No need for an early invite.
Roman, tsk tsk tsk... That said no we don't want the distraction known as Brett Favre here. We have enough quarterback controversy without adding another. Tunaland at this point has made their decision as to which direction they want the quarterback position to go. Bringing in an aging veteran who may have a year or two left is not the direction that they've moved in throughout the rest of the team and positions. Why would Brett Favre want to come here at the end of his career??? Is there a Super Bowl contending team here??? Is there a glimpse of even playoffs here??? there is absolutely no reason in the world other than possibly money for Brett to be an aqua and teal. Brett has been an Ironman thus far in his career. I really applauded him for retiring this past year (well, giving that impression) while still one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Just how long will it take for his body to start to break down??? One week, one month, 3 games??? we've seen it over and over again with aging veterans where they hang on just a little too long. Supposing Brett does come here, can make the transition to Henning's offense and we make some improvements and win a few games. What happens when/if he goes out on injury ??? Who'll step in ??? Is Beck ready??? Is McCown the answer??? If Brett spends the bulk of training camp adjusting to Henning's offense, where will the time be for us to determine Beck's and McCown's readiness ?? Tunaland has made their decision on which direction they want the quarterback position to go. Brett is not in their plans. There is no really good reason for either party to want to make this move.
mornin' Larry.. .. aqua and orange??? just say no to favray .. he's a friggin soap opera, we already have one of those..
I don't see how he hurts developing our young players. He helps Ginn hugely, he helps Long, he helps anyone playing with him. If Beck is going to be a starter in the NFL, sitting a year behind a HOF QB is not going to hurt him. As a Fan, he makes a 8-8 (if we are lucky) season a lot more fun to watch.
NO! This regime started the rebuild machine and to bring in Favre here is like putting that plan on hold.. Signing Favre is like having a couple cases of 17 year old paint and applying it to a BRAND new house.. The paint MIGHT last for a couple months or even a year but the bottom line is the the paint is stop-gap, will break down and peel, and eventually will cause more damage than it protects. IMO the Dolphins NEED to folllow the plan that has obviously been laid out the the exectutive VP! Yes it will be a slow process but I can guarantee that bringing in B Favre will most certainly keep this team dog paddling in a mud puddle instead of swimming in the ocean with the successful teams in the league! I'm sorry TT.. I strongly disagree.. the only thing that will develope Beck is game reps.. favray would take those away.. he is not any kind of solution to OUR qb problems. We don't need a new self absorbed soap opera here, we need to know if we have our franchise qb on the roster and favray will not help us discover OR develope that talent.
besides, doesn't Favre want to win a SuperBowl... I see a better chance of it snowing in Miami next January than the Phins winning a SB.
OK, I was going to put this to rest but John Clayton was just on ESPN's Inside the Huddle, and they were talking about Brett Favre. They asked him where he thinks Favre would end up. He said the three teams at the top of his list would be the Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins. He didn't say anything about Minnesota or Chicago. I doubt Favre would go to anyone in the Packer's division....just like Zach Thomas chose to go to the Cowboys over playing for the New England Patriots. I keep hearing the argument here and on sport's radio shows that Favre would want to go to a SB contender and playoff team. I don't think this is Favre's primary motivation.....HE ALREADY HAS A SUPERBOWL RING. His legacy is secure and he doesn't need another ring to bump him into the Hall of Fame. I don't think Joe Montana decided to go play for the KC Chiefs in order to win another ring. He just wanted to play football. I think Favre just wants to continue playing because this is what he loves doing. You say "Tunaland has made their decision." I don't think they have. The Tuna likes older veteran QB's and he had a man crush on Drew Bledsoe. I don't see Beck being his QB of the future as he did not draft him. McCown is just a stop gap QB like Trent Green, and I think Henne is his future QB...with big emphasis on the FUTURE. So I still think there is a possibility Favre could come to Miami and be the starter. John Clayton said the decision should be made by July 28th. Stay tuned Flipper Friends.
...and he got his veteran in Josh McCown. I see Beck as having serious worth to the team since they cut every other QB on the roster, except Beck. I think the FO sees something in him, too. ...and like Brett Favre would be... Just a whole lot cheaper. Agreed. Possibility, yes... Probability, I don't think so. I, personally, will be pissed off if Favre comes here in any capacity other than as a backup or coach. It will just show me that this FO is half-assing any sort of rebuilding.
I am absolutely stunned that 3/4 of the voters here don't want Favre. Stunned. How on earth does "we've already got Josh McCown, John Beck and Chad Henne" equate to "avoid Brett Favre"?!? Ship McCown out for a 7th rounder or something if you're worried about having too many QBs on the roster. Let Beck and Henne learn from an all-time great and get some practice and film time under their belts.
If we brought in Favre we'd have alot more wins. But i doubt he'd want to come here into this situation.
I overwhelmingly agree. Sure, we need to develop our young QBs... nobody is arguing that. But how could you want McCown or Beck starting over Favre? Seriously.
I don't want to bring in Favre, but FreeStyle, McCown has shown everything but that he is a reliable. QB. 2, 8, 14, 9, 2, 9. Those are games he's appeared in his, his entire career. His rookie season of course he was riding the pine, but he's been injured quite extensively the last few years, and has not shown us a complete season yet.
