I'd like to see that too. The line of PG Larry Drew, Honeycut and Suggs looked really good last night. I don't see a dominant player on the Heat squad tho, like for example Mbaye and Lorenzo Brown were for the Clips, or Exum and Gobert for Jazz, etc.

Wonder if Tyler Johnson has a shot as an end of the bench guy. Or maybe a guy we can send to the D-League or overseas.

No, but before Oden signed the same scenario happened. So either someone is playing off that to fake or its legit.

Fwiw I don't see how we can fit Bledsoe under the cap. I know we can go over with the Bird rights of Bird Man. Also that we can get some back by renouncing Battier and Allen.

Do we have bird rights on Haslem? That would help.

They might renounced Haslem to give him the 2.7 MLE

Yes. But why would they use that exception on Haslem? He's vet min player. If they were smart they would've used it on Bosh, who costs much more.

That would be a good move. Still wondering how we would find the space. If we do have the space I certainly wouldnt mind Bledsoe, you can run Chalmers at SG without losing as much offensively but I see it as a long shotat this point.

Though I have to say with Bledsoe I'd consider us a lock for the #2 spot in the East with a legitimate shot at the #1 seed.

From what I've read we couldn't use it on Bosh for some reason. I think because his contract had to be equal to or less than his cap hold.

Forget Bledsoe. He is a RFA and his agent is Rich Paul. That rumor was debunked.

Another thing to remember is that Bledsoe and Monroe are UFAs next year. Depending on how much the cap goes up, it's possible we'll be a cap space team again, particularly if Deng/Granger opt out

Yeah but his cap hold was already as high as his max contract. I'm pretty sure you can only use bird rights to exceed the salary cap if the starting salary is greater than the cap hold on the player in question. For Bosh it could only be equal to or less, so we couldn't use them to exceed the cap.

May be off on this, still learning how these things work.

Max salary is league's max salary. There is no hold greater than max salary. Bosh got the max, his hold was never greater than max. Max means max.

In any case, maybe that's why Wade is holding, to exercise the Bird exception, once they get close to the cap. That would make sense.

It may not be the reason I posted but I do know 100% there was a reason we can't use it on Bosh to exceed. I believe it was even posted in a tweet in this thread.

No such thing as a Bird exception.

There are Bird Rights. Bird Rights were already exercised on all of the guys we retained.

If Deng/Granger have good seasons and opt out we could free up $12 million in cap space. Plus whatever the cap increases to. Could have close to a max slot depending in how Bosh and Wade contracts are ultimately structured

I think youre probably looking at a 3 seed but probably 4th best record, behind Indy (#3), Cleveland (#2) and Chicago (#1...if Rose is healthy). A healthy Bulls team, imo, will clearly have the best record. Well coached, play great defense, and they added another offensive threat that they badly needed in Gasol and maybe Mirotic. You could argue that the order of the top 4 is going to be dependent on Rose's health.

I don't consider any part of the East a dogfight, really. There are four teams (Mia, Chi, Indy, Cle) that are basically guaranteed to make the playoffs and in all likelihood stroll into the top 4 seeds because the rest of the conference is clearly a few steps down from that first group. Playing a great regular season just doesn't matter that much in the Eastern Conf.

The West, on the other hand, is a total dogfight. Dallas, the eight-seed, would have been the three-seed if they were in the East. Indiana, the one-seed, would have been the four-seed in the West.

I guess where we disagree is I see Cleveland nowhere near that good. Remember how hard it was even for Miami to adjust to having James/Wade/Bosh?

Even if you think Kyrie will be healthy and great I just don't see any other immediate impact players on that roster that give them a chance at the #2 seed.

I see them more as a #4 seed this season with I guess Chicago/Indiana/Miami fighting for the
    1-2-3.

If Stephenson returns Indiana should secure the #1 seed and be better than Chicago IMO.

No I do not know what your argument is. That's why I am asking you why are you saying this, what are you driving at?
There are bird rights (qualifying vet free agent) and out of those rights there is an exception to cap called Bird exception, it's in the book. You said there is no such thing as Bird exception. I do not understand.

We were talking in the context of our current cap situation.

In the book, I understand they word it that way, but for delineation purposes I use "Bird Rights" and the "Exceptions" as different concepts, because one is used to retain current players (as well as every team in the NBA having use of it) and the other is used to acquire outside talent (for teams that are capped out). The Heat is a capped team, so the distinction matters.

In this case, we converted an exception that we could have used to pay off UD.

Using that exception for UD limits his contract to two years.

So UD is getting a touch more money over 2 yrs than he opted out of this year.

Decks will be pretty clear in 2016, plus we have tradeable contract to clear space. Chalmers and McRoberts nice small deals.

Masterful job by Riley under tremendously difficult circumstances

    You are not lying.

This guy managed to put a team on the floor that can win it's division, contend int eh East, all the while clearing cap space for the summer of 2016.

    Here is the kicker....ready?

With all the 2 year deals, it gives us a ton of tradeable/desirable assets for next summer if a free agent is out there that we may want.

Here is where we screwed up.....because we were strung along by Lebron...we didn't extend our offers to Bosh and Wade in a timely manner and get them at what would have been a discount. SO the Heat where then left with a situation where it really did not matter to save a few extra bucks since they were already a capped team, and didn't have to fit Lebron under the apron.
