Of course Lebron wants the max. I'd want the max too. What he asks for is different. He'll take less from the Heat than other teams.

    Thanks.

What do you think the new tv deal is worth?

Is it still with Sun or will the Heat open it up to others/start their own channel?

I think if you sign Bosh and LeBron to 1-yr deals you lose Bird Rights which would limit their max deals the following year as well as the Heat's ability to sign them and go above the cap. Think it would mess with availability of MLE, too - but maybe the deals just involve player options they could opt-out of to retain Bird Rights.

    CBA is so damn confusing.

If Chicago and NY both lodged complaints and nothing was done then basically the league is saying players can decide where they want to go years in advance and its not tampering. Good to know that precedent has been set. Ill have to get in touch with Phil.

On one year deals, Im pretty sure you lose all bird rights.

A contract that contains an Early Termination Option (ETO) cannot be extended if the ETO is exercised (ending the contract early). A contract with an option can be extended if the player opts-in. A contract with an option can also be extended if the player opts-out, as long as the extension adds at least two new seasons onto the contract (excluding any new option year) and the salary in the first year of the extension is not less than the salary in the non-exercised option year.

The one spot I think Lebron would consider is Phoenix. They have restricted RFA rights on Bledsoe and have Dragic under contract. They have QO's on Frye and Leandro Barbosa they could renounce and go from about 29M in cap to 37M available. Not sure if they could go over the cap to resign Bledsoe since he is an Early Bird FA or if they have to use the available cap space first. They could in theory have a roster with...
    PG Bledsoe
    SG Dragic
    SF Bron
    PF Melo
    C Plumlee/Len
And still have both morris twins, Archie Goodwin and Gerald Green as depth. That'd be nasty.

I still think Atlanta makes a ton of sense. Teague-Korver-LeBron-Milsap-Horford is just incredible.

The Heat had a defensive chemistry even in year 1 that I've never seen in Houston.

If I'm not mistaken, that isn't possible. I believe the only way LeBron makes the most money in the NBA is if the Heat re-sign him based on the terms of the CBA allowing teams to re-sign a player for more than a new team. I would imagine a player or two that re-signed to a max deal in the previous couple of years would make more in 2014-2015 than LeBron if he signs a max deal elsewhere.

I do hope it's LeBron and the Heat toying with the rest of the league, but my nerves won't be settled until he signs in Miami.

Phoenix can add Lebron and Melo if they do it right. Thats a hell of a lot better. ATL isnt awful but its not as good as Miami or Phoenix or heck Cleveland or NY. In the end though hes staying imo. I think he would consider Phoenix because of their flexibility to add both he and Melo if something happened in Miami.

Thats why they would have ETO in the deal. I ran it by a cap guy and he told me it was correct in construction.

It would have to be a player options instead of an ETO because ETOs are only available on 4 yr deals but I don't really understand any other difference between ETOs and player options.

Not sure how good Nelson is defensively at this point, but he can still score and create offense, which is something we need.

Definitely on the list if we don't snag Lowry.

But if you have an ETO in the deal then you lose bird rights according to the NBA's cba page.

Kobe is still working under the old CBA rules, I believe - so he's making $23.5mil next yr and $25mil the following. Joe Johnson isn't far behind him.

But I think CK just meant if LeBron leaves it will be for the maximum amount available to him and not a penny less.

I completely believe that the big 3, Riley, Haslem are working in concert and have been from the beginning. The broad outlines of what they'll make are already known depending on who they've jointly agreed to target in FA. Allen is almost assuredly in on things as well. Anderson is probably going to see if he can get a big contract elsewhere since it'll be his last chance, but will come back if he doesn't find that out there. I have no doubt that next year's roster will include Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Haslem, Allen and Napier. I think Ennis and Oden are pretty likely as well. Anderson will come back unless he gets a big offer elsewhere. The rest will depend on what FAs they target and get.

That's arguably the biggest legacy of the big 3, they gave power to the players. They weren't the first to do it, of course. San Antonio's stars have taken less for years to bring in guys they wanted. I believe that Duncan only made the max in 3 of his 17 (or is it 18?) years in in the league. And they benefited by being arguably the most successful franchise in the league during that time. But the big 3 made everybody notice.

Oh no, the players had power long before Miami's big three. Miami's big three made it ok for players to tamper with other teams players. One of the drawbacks to having professionals in the Olympics is that you get what happened. All Bosh, Lebron and Wade made their pact to play together at the Olympics when they were all on separate teams. I didnt know that NYK and Chicago complained to the league (I probably read it and glossed over it at the time it all happened). But if thats OK then Im sure the league wont mind if other players not named Lebron do it.

No. That's what I just said. They definitely weren't the first. They were the first that acknowledged it publicly at least that I can remember. They were the first that it became public knowledge while they were still on other teams.

Interesting, I was actually watching the Mavs last year thinking Carter would be a good fit for the Heat at this point of his career.

As for Jameer Nelson, that would be interesting as well. I actually thought Napier's game most closely resembles Nelson's.

Chandler Parsons is all kinds of interesting.

His defense ...mediocre...but he can shoot, pass, and move within a offense.

A lineup of: Wade, Allen, Parsons, Lebron, Bosh is an impossible lineup to guard.
