Wrong celtics team. I am talking about the team the heat beat twice....so its the 10'-11' and 11'-12' celtics...

And..the heat..would have murdered those knicks teams. Couldnt score at our pace and who the hell was gonna guard our perimeter guys

    Heat in 5

In that case..either one...the bad boys at that time were a shell of themselves.

I hate these hypothetical matchups. Every great team is great on its own merit in its own era.

He is signed for next year Alex at 23.3M unless he chooses the early termination clause (i.e. opt out clause) in his contract. If he doesnt choose to opt out then hes automatically opted in

Who the hell was going to guard Ewing? Who the hell was going to get a rebound over Mason-Oakley-Ewing? Sorry bro, but this is the era of panzy basketball.

    Greg Oden :shifty:

Kidding, but Oden is actually the played I'm most excited about for next season. If it's true he was a two year project and has been looking good health wise that could be huge.

    Who guards Ewing?

    Two things:

    A) the score board
    B) the defense that ranked top 5 in rim defense and eff. Diff. Vs. Centers.

I don't know about the Heat, but NY would've beaten those Celtics teams. Infact I'm not sure how guys like Wade hold up getting knocked to the floor hard every time they try too attack. Would be interesting.

And to be far I think this entire era is wimped up. I don't think any teams from this era could hold up vs Jordan's bulls, swings Knicks, olajuwons rockets even shaqs magic. Except maybe the spurs because their style translates in any era.

That was exactly what was known for back in 2006. They even had that commercial with the saying "fall down 8 times, get up 9 times" or words to that effect. I see that as one of his strengths. I don't know who would have won, but I think that today's standard rhetoric about how everything was tougher in the old days is over stated. It was a one on one game back them. You got hit more liberally going to the basket, but help arrived later b/c of the lack of zone and illegal D differences. A strong player like Lebron would have thrived with fewer double teams and when the D swarmed at the basket a good passer would have carved a D up.

If they play back then Pistons in 5, if they play now Pistons in 7. Those Celtics teams were mediocre teams, they should have been beat by the Cavs....I believe the Cavs were favored to win that series, I mean really??

Did you just call a team that won 66 games and a championship and then was 5 minutes away from another one...."mediocre"?

This years Heat team with no one on the bench doing anything and Wade looking like he's 50 would have lost. This years team was just not great at all. The team that played 2 years prior? I like the Heat's chances but this years team would have been dominated. Bosh guarding Ewing makes baby Jesus cry.

Your memory of both teams is shotty.

That "great" pistons team won 50 games and was a bickering mess.

A benefit of being as old as i am.

Wow I'm incredibly shocked that Knick fans think a great Knick team would beat a great Heat team and Heat fans think a great Heat team would beat a great Knick team.

I'd NEVER have expected this. Glad I didn't bet money. :shifty:

A 50 year old man had the most efficient season for a SG in 30 years?

Admit it..the only heat games you watched all year where the last 3 vs. Spurs.

Btw, i'll give you 189 guesses as to who ranked #1 among centers in p&r defense.

Patrick Ewing was 7'-0" 240 lbs.

These were some weights from training camp this year:

    Wade 6'-4", 228 lbs.
    Lebron 6'-9" 257 lbs.
    Bosh 6'-11" 245 lbs.

Puts sports evolution in perspective..doesn't it?

Same principles as the 1-15 dolphins beating the 72' dolphins.

Maybe knicks fans dont realize it, but the best NY teams played MORE than 20 years ago.

    Twenty years.

Well, since everyone is reminiscing. I'd just like to throw out, Olajuwon transcends time. It's why your favorite player has likely paid Hakeem to train them. Greatest 2-way player of all time. Only player in NBA history who finished career top 13 in points(9th), rebounds(13th), blocks(1st), and steals(8th).

I know it was off topic, but oh well. Deal with it.

Yep. Gotta be. But I am a big Olajuwon fan. To me he was the best C out of that whole era. I have it Olajuwon-Shaq-Ewing-Robinson-Zo (which isnt intended to be a slap at heat fans)

Yet he successfully figured out how to defend or limit the effectiveness of Wilt when no one else really could. Having great teammates helped but Russell was a defensive terror the likes of which we havent really seen. Remember blocks and steals werent charted then. Id have loved to see how his numbers would stack up next to Olajuwons.

Yes. But it will be a very detailed and intricate attempt.

Will require Melo to take a back loaded deal starting at 14mil a year with big three front loading theirs.

It is a shot in the dark they are willing to make.

    Unlikely it happens...i say 20%
