I have seen the Spurs for the last 18 years. Their "dominance" is exaggerated.

and again..maybe they can win the lottery twice...again.

Just as an example Boik..the Spurs have the most playoff wins in the last 10 years. Heat is second. They were 1 win apart going into the NBA Finals this year.

We always exaggerate, and extol the virtues of the latest champion..especially when they beat a team we "hate".

I'm not saying their aren't great. I'm saying during their entire era of greatness they have won some titles, but have always been overshadowed by an even better team for the most part.

Is it exaggerated? Remember this is a team that has retooled 4-5 times as Duncan and Parker and Ginobli have aged. they won 1x with Robinson towards the end of the Admirals career...I dont know that you can really even factor him all that much. This has been mostly Duncans team. I think their dominance is underappreciated. No other team has ever had a run of 14 straight years of 50 straight wins. It would be 16 years if not for a strike shortened year in the late 90's.

Yes, I hate the heat. But the series is over and won. All im saying is your Heat lost to a team that is very much overlooked when we talk about dynasties. No theyve never won back to back but a dynasty can be based on longevity of titles. The Patriots have been a dynasty much of Brady's career the same way the Spurs have been a dynasty all of Duncans career
It took a combination of Shaq-Kobe-Phil and Kobe-Gasol-Bynum(who was an all star those year)-Phil. Is that getting overshadowed or is it getting beat by teams lead by some all time greats including the best coach ever and most dominant C ever? And to be fair the west was loaded those years also...D'Antoni's suns with Nash/Amare/Marion etc, Dirks and Kidds Mavs, Ming's Rockets, etc.

Id love to get Melo to opt in, I just dont think hes going to. If he does opt in, the ability to have a great team next year is there (just add Love and M Gasol with decent guards). Other then that I agree with your plan.

If/when he leaves, is it safe to say he wants Houston? I know Howard is a player hes always wanted to play with and he tried to recruit Howard to NYK when Paul failed. The Bulls and Rockets (Parsons) have the most to offer though Parsons cant guard a bar stool.

Yes. IMO it is exaggerated. Their last ten years are not as good as the Heat's last 10 years and the Heat is midway through their run. They are at the end of theirs.

So if they are so great, how great will the Heat be at the end of this decade?

You'd rather have the 5, but you're not understanding. The Spurs book has already been written. The Heat's book has just started. How many rings did Pop have in his first 7 years as coach? 1. How many does Spo have? 2. How many rings did Duncan have in his first 4 years in SA? 1. How many does LeBron have? 2. They got those rings in a 15 year period. No one is discounting what the Spurs have done. He said they're irrelevant to the Heat, and in the big picture they are.

Do you know where he is going? Any other tidbits you have come across or can let us in on? Any word on if shump to okc's for 21+29 is real?

Obviously I'd love to see melo hang around but my gut says he's gone.

To answer the question: it depends how long the big three stick together for and how long they can play at a high level with some complimentary players around them. It can also depend on whether someone else can derail them as right now the east is still pretty weak.

We aren't going to agree on the spurs. I'm not a fan since they denied my Knicks for their first but they're all class. Great organization

That's kind of a homerish POV because the Heat havent had the strength of conference factor the spurs had. Miami hasn't had anything like Kobe and shaq or Kobe and Pau on their primes. They haven't had to deal with anything as talented as Nash/Amare/Marion/Joe Johnson or Dirk and Kidd or Yao and T-Glass etc. The only real obstacles were the old Celtic teams that had three greats but they were all much older with diminishing skills and the bulls who once you made life difficult for rose had no other scoters really. Strength of schedule and wear and tear from matchups is a factor and the east has been very weak for more then a decade now

I don't. I have no idea what Melo is gonna do, but if he opts out..there are at least 4 teams (Chicago is not one of them BTW) that are serious suitors.

Nobody knows who the hell the 80's Lakers beat in the WC playoffs Boik.

Jordan beat a bunch of weak WC champions except for that one Phoenix team.

    This happens in all sports.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying they would have won more if not for the hellish road they had to travel many years. If you remember some of those years a 3 seed meant you had 60 wins and it meant you drew a 50-54 win 6 seed many years. The west was as stacked as any conference during a solid decade during SAS dynasty as any conference I can recall in 30 years watching pro sports

Did anyone here ever say Lebron didn't play great or that those around him didn't let him down?

Is it because they suck? Nope. However they didn't play well at all games 3-4 and couldn't buy a bucket game 5.

Any team would win more if they didn't have to play better teams. In the enf that is what it comes down to IMO.

The fact that you win a title means you likely beat 4 inferior teams in the playoffs.

Well at the end of the day, you gotta score more points than the other team; that's the key to winning.

I'll leave this to the Mods, but since we're in NBA silly season, I think we should have a thread dedicated to Heat hating, rank LBJ speculation and pure crockery.

And I'll make the first contribution: I present to you all Jason Whitlock, Idiot.

Game one was a giant Spurs cramp conspiracy

Game two was The Heat are the bestest! We cant be beat!!!! omg cant wait to win it next year to!

    Game three was wtf Refs!!!

    Game four was miracle comeback!!

Game 5 was omg we dont have anyone but Lebron!

    Sad...

To be fair each game was its own entity with valid reasons. I'm past being overly emotional about it and can say now:

We very well could have gone up 2-0 if not for cramps. Don't think it was a cinspiracy but it did change the game and who knows how that turns out.

Game two we played Heat basketball and won, looked like a great series.

Game three I didn't like the officiating but it probably only would have changed their margin of victory.

Game four we crapped the bed, still say the Spurs played good but not great basketball and if we came out with intensity we shoulf have won.

Game five we let off the gas and never pushed doen on it again.

Uh, yeah, congrats because we won back to back championships. I love this notion that because a series was close or could have gone either way that the result no longer counts.

By that logic the Spurs are stuck on 4 legitimate championships because they almost lost to the Pistons in a Game 7 at home.

Not sure how you got that from what I said unless you have an agenda against me personally but whatever. That was a pretty fair analysis.

I conceded that we could have either won or lost game one even without the cramps and that we were outplayed game three by a mile, that the Spurs played good basketball game four and we played like crap (we did, do you disagree?) and that we went terribly cold game five after a hot start (can you disagree with that?).

Do you want me to get on my knees and lick ***? Would that be good enough for you?

Also I'm sorry but the way I played sports was always "It's on me" and that it never matters what your opponent does, its on you to be better than that. If I wasn't I always put myself down more than the opponent on a pedestal. That is how I personally got better, and its translated some into my fanhood. It doesn't mean I dont think the Spurs deserved to win.
