Wow. DE Olivier Vernon just blew up LT Branden Albert for his third sack of the day on QB Ryan Tannehill. #DolphinsScrimmage

That doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies - pretty much the way i felt on every FG attempt last year.

Dion Jordan has lined up at LDE, RDE and DT...they're definitely trying to get him on the field...

    Brown mentioned a lot today

Devlin looks for Hazel in the end zone but gets nothing. Jalil Brown in coverage.

Ah..OL..can we ever get it right.

Ju'Wan James prolly feels like a college freshman again.

Am a bit troubled over Albert, 3 sacks is a bit much

Again Branden Albert is a 7th year veteran who has battled some injury issues the last few years. I seriously doubt he's going full speed at a padless mini camp scrimmage in mid-June. This time last year the reports were coming in that OV was beating the tar out of Jonathan Martin pretty much every day, so I think OV goes full speed in practice.

I'll be concerned about Albert if he's beaten like this during the training camp scrimmage that they usually hold a week before the first preseason game.

Somebody needs to tell him that his 3-Cone drill time sucks, and he can't get separation from NFL corners. :shifty:

One thing is for sure, DJ is going to have to EARN that starting DE spot opposite Wake. Vernon had a good year last year and he's been doing well so far during camp.

All though, to me, whoever starts doesn't really matter. The goal for us should be to have all of them (Shelby included) playing well enough to mix, match and keep guys fresh.

If we can split up snaps between all of them and they all produce then we are golden. Who is on the field to start the game shouldn't matter.

I am not concerned about anyone when it comes to playing without pads. It is an entirely different game.

Mostly looking for people giving a good effort and not looking lost.

I would be more concerned with this as a pad scrimmage in August than I am now. Not overly concerned, even with the OL struggles right now. And with a new offense being implemented I am not surprised the defense rules the day. I expect offense should get better.

Sounds like Garrison Smith had himself the kind of day that will get him noticed. Perhaps people were a bit quick to crown Anthony Johnson as the king of the UDFAs.

-Landry is going to be involved in the offense.
-dont like the sacks but without pads, who knows. Not concerned about albert tho. A vet with nothing to prove vs a young de who absolutely wants to keep his spot.
-love the focus on getting Jordan on the field
    -haven't even seen hartlines name.

Or went half speed and still beat the tar out of Jonathan Martin. Common denominator here being Jonathan Martin. Can't use that plug to really gauge OV's effort during these practices.

Underrated guy while at Georgia. When he wasn't in their lineup they suffered. I watched most of the Georgia games being a alum. I might say the same thing about Wooten. Another underrated guy.

As for Albert or anyone else facing Vernon and Wake, I think we have all known how good those guys are. Albert and James should get better having to face them unless it hinders their confidence.

Kacy is probably one of the best defensive line coaches in the league. And he appears to have guys developing well under his leadership. Tough decisions with this group and the roster this year.

Exactly. Defense is usually ahead of offense this time of year.........especially when your working in a new offense with nearly an entirely new OL. If this is happening when the pads go on.....then I'll worry.

Keep in mind this is a new offense with 4/5 of the OL different from last year and a rookie at RT facing an experienced defense coming into its 3rd year under the same system... offensive struggles are to be expected this time of the year. Let's see how things work out in training camp with the pads on before drawing conclusions.

One thing that strikes me as a bit odd...granted it's a mixed scrimmage, but if you're trying to incorporate 4 new starters on an O-line - and this is just me - but wouldn't you want them playing together at every opportunity?

For a guy like Joe who has a background in being a OL coach I often find myself puzzled by his moves. I am not genius by a long shot, but I played on the OL and cohesion is critical. New offense and new starters equate to a lot of repetition.

I mean they are listed as starters (Smith, James) now.....but I don't think any coach wants to full out give up starting positions in June. Competition breeds greatness.

I never really understood the basis for the article of faith on the offensive line having a lot of experience "together" being important. What of the "soft skills" a linemen needs to be successful aren't dictated by the team?
