That's my favorite part too. I watched about 50 minutes of the match yesterday and for 45 of those minutes I was loudly complaining about how boring it is, and how every time I watch soccer I'm reminded why I don't watch soccer. The other 5 minutes I'm rewinding and replaying stuff and telling my wife what's going on in the game like I actually know and care about it. She immediately called me out, for good reason. But that's pretty much the fun of it. Pretending I actually care.

if your not seeing it it's because your not paying attention bro, everything that matters has gone up when it comes to the sport and the spirt, it's growing right before your eyes.

Imo it's just years of folks who just keep trying to set the narrative that it's boring without trying to be open about it, it's a game of skill, the skill is different then your accustomed to but if you can start to appreciate the intricacies and see the specific athleticism and coordination it takes, it's cool, and some day even though I don't have a rooting interest in a MLS team, I can see myself getting there, that's a big step for a guy who only has followed one team their whole lives.

Belgium. Just scored a goal to tie it up by one if the biggest stars, who has an Afro.

" BIG MAN, BIG STAR, BIG HAIR, BIG GOAL"!!!! Was the call.

    Lol

I missed game, but by all accounts it sounded sloppy. Watching the elimination rounds (or whatever the rounds are called after the group stage) during the last World Cup was eye opening, especially seeing how some teams are able to effortlessly move the ball around. Hell I even watched the Champion League finals between Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid, and it was night and day compared to a US team match. I'm not a huge fan of soccer, but I can see why people would find the USA national matches boring, because they are.

DJ, you must keep missing the part where I say I've played the sport, and I like playing the sport. So I get that it's a game of skill and have a great appreciation for the intricacies, more so than I do for football since I never played football in HS since my school was too small. That won't change the fact that soccer, even for a guy like me who played it and appreciated it, is mind numbingly boring to watch on TV. Sure there are a few exciting moments that draw a reaction from whatever bar or pub you're in, but the rest of the game most people are drinking, not looking at the TV, and every now and again pretending to care as others have said.

Like I said, only history will prove one of us right, but I'm pretty damn confident and would bet my retirement account that MLS will continue to barely exist.

My favorite part is the complete lack of any commercial breaks or "TV timeouts".
This was initially the main draw for me.

I wonder if Soccer is a bit like baseball. I never played it in any leagues (just backyards and streets), but watched enough of it in the 90s and early '00s to start understanding the strategy. Giants and Dolphins are my two favorite teams. At the time, I had Barry Bonds and ... Jay Fiedler. I still watched every game of the NFL but watched baseball even more. I started to get it. I started to predict the calls, when to send a runner, when to pitch out, when to pitch outside or down the middle. Someone next to me will die of boredom yet I was able to watch all 9 innings. I don't have that time anymore to watch 162 games but that's what I liked about baseball.

Is soccer the same way? I find it terribly boring. I find hockey boring but more exciting than soccer.

The quality is certainly different from say a match between Nigeria and Iran vs Germany and Portugal. The US team has come a long way from 1994 world cup when they were the host. They could barely pass the ball back then. The MLS has come a long way too but still has a ways to go to matchup with the top leagues in Europe. The quality isn't there yet. But the atmosphere in the stadium is very close and that is a big part of it. The AYSO leagues, at least where I live here in So Cal, massive participation with the kids (ages 5 to 14) these days. So critical to the growth of the sport.

Less and less kids playing football and moving over to soccer these days. If the US can get another world cup hosting here in the next 20 to 30 years, it will be huge.

So just looking at the OTAs it sounds like Terrance Fede had himself a day. Had a big leaping interception of a Matt Moore pass and also according to Omar destroyed Shelley Smith on another play.

That guy could be a nice find. Not so high on Walt Aikens as a potential small school find, but I do like Fede because he's just so legitimately athletic and compelling that way. Not sure I buy that he'd have been a star even at a higher level of college competition, but the dude is big and hella athletic.

Also the pass rush package they worked on today ("speed package") involved Dion Jordan, Derrick Shelby, Olivier Vernon and Cameron Wake. I find that pretty intriguing. I hope they try Vernon out more on the interior in pass rush which is where I've pictured him since he was drafted. Shelby can probably do some work at that spot too.

really depends on the product.. the quality of the product on the field. not the shots IMO... if the passes are crisp and the movement is fluid... and the possession is controlled, it's a great game to watch... even if it does end zero zero...
